Okay, my girlfriend is but this place is amazing! I defy you to find a healthier, better tasting meal for the prices there, seriously.

Chickens needn't run for cover in the vicinity of Native Foods, a quick-service vegan restaurant that can turn even a carnivore's head. While the Westwood eatery is famous among UCLA students for its sweet potato fries, the Ensalada Azteca with fresh avocado, cucumber and jicama salsa, quinoa, romaine, currants, toasted pumpkin seeds, cilantro, and mango lime vinaigrette ($9.95), is what keeps me coming back. With the addition of blackened tempeh, this hearty salad could easily go head to head with a medium rare rib-eye. Or, at the very least, convince a meat-lovin' gal to give her steak knife a break.

Being vegan doesn't always mean tofu and celery sticks - at least not with Native Foods' sweet potato fries. This vegan-food-only restaurant is bound to cheer you up whether you're a plant eater or not, with pictures of friendly animals on the napkin dispensers and signs asking you to kindly leave your milk products at home. The sweet potato fries are a new creation and not yet on the menu, and while less sweet than others I've had, they are made from fresh sweet potatoes and are crispy and delicious: the perfect snack to make you feel better about the world.

along w/ RAW and RFD, this place is definitely up there in terms of serving up the most tasty 'vegan' organic healthy cuisine. it's fairly small and the decor is nothing to talk about & there's no parking (as it IS in westwood) & they don't deliver, but for me to put up w/ all the above suggests that the food might be the only thing that actually makes up for all that it lacks, and it does. even my friends who don't like 'vegan' or healthy food have all raved about this place, so that says a lot.

Pros: great-tasting vegan

Cons: food's the only thing good about this place

.

Being a vegetarian, I am always on the lookout for good places to eat, and this one is definitely my top so far. I have never had a bad meal here...and for the carnivores, the fake chicken actually tastes like chicken (no joke), maybe even better. I love their bowls. The service is great, the people are so friendly, and the atmosphere is very fun. If you haven't tried Native Foods yet, go!

You definitely need to try this restaurant if you're into healthy foods! This restaurant offers a variety of different foods and it's no meat, all vegan! The appetizers (tofu strips and the nachos are my favorite!)
It's very casual, and tends to always be crowded and loud. Definitely recommend it!

Pros: DELICIOUS FOOD!

Cons: CROWDED

Great food, but prices are a bit on the high side. Since others had commented on the food, I'll update you on the extension last person mentioned: They finally took over the space next door, which created more seating space, but it's sparsely decorated at the moment (visited 10-7-2007) and feels a bit like cafeteria. Hopefully they will make it into a more inviting space.

I used to drive the 6 miles from my house to eat there because I loved everything. I guess it is still good, but I knew it when it was better. You now have to pay for tomatoes and it is like one little slice. They changed from a soft wheat bun to a harder not so tasty bun. The portions are smaller and the prices are not. However I think that if I had never eaten there before, if it didn't used to be my favorite vegan restaurant in LA I would like it a lot. So it is definitely worth a visit and the prices are good. Service is okay I guess since you order at the counter. The fries are still awesome and so is the cheesecake. The soul bowl is still tasty too. I just have to avoid anything on a bun.

Pros: Vegan, Cheesecake, Fries

.

The food is great: vegan interpretations of more standard food (mostly latin and american). The inside is small and there is no table service (they will bring the food to your table, but that is it).

Who would've known that vegan cuisine could be so good? The menu features a wide variety of stuff, like salads and creative "bowls" packed with healthy veggies and, often, creatively flavorful meat substitutes (soy, tempeh, etc.)--for those who can't cook like this at home, or miss the taste of real meat. Has a great vibe--I feel good just being there!

I adore native foods. I have gone to all three restaurants (westwood, costa mesa, palm desert). The menu differs at all the locations. We prefer costa mesa. Its much more casual & Tanya is always there.
We love you Tanya!!
It was great to see you on the Food Network in October!!
Looking forward to Thanksgiving with you!!

Pros: Best vegan food

Cons: I dont live next door to it

I went to this location with 2 other friends, one being a vegetarian, and we were all completely disappointed with our meals. We do a lot of veg dinners to accomodate our friend, and this one was probably the worst of all. First the service was slow, they made a mistake with my meal and when I brought it to their attention, they denied it, as opposed to fixing it.

As far as the food, it was tasteless, rubbery and bland (which, I think is what they're going for here). I emailed the owner about my thoughts and all I got back was that she believes that I don't know good vegetarian food. If that's here excuse for these tasteless dishes she's created, I feel sorry for those people that continually patronize her restaurant and wish to live in denial. There are more reputable, flavorful and respectful restaurants that we as consumers can spend our hard-earned money on. I don't mean to bring down this restaurant in anyway, as adults will make their decision, for the most part, based on experience, however, if you've never been there, go three with an open mind and really try to figure out how this restaurant stays in business with the food that they serve.

Pros: Location

Cons: Everything else

the food does a double-take on my stomach, but its worth it everytime.

the food is good and fresh--im not talking about eating pieces of leaves for dinner. the dishes are also interestingly creative..its amazing how they think up with this stuff. im not sure how healthy it is, bc everything is substitutes but its good. the fries are delicious. the place is teeny-tiny so you may want to take your food to go. last time i ate there, we were sitting so close to the people next to us that they told us to keep our voices down while we were eating (we were talking about sexx).

a little pricey but hey, its the price you pay for organic food. and you wont leave hungry. i hear their desserts are good too.

Pros: creative dishes, leaves you full, the fries and sandwiches

Cons: not much room to sit and eat, you can park on broxton--free for the 1st two hours before 6pm

This place is awesome! Each time I go, I try something new and it's all great! Since everything is vegan, the variety is incredible and I feel SO much more comfortable knowing my food wasn't combined with meat, or cooked on a surface that had meat...I've even been inspired to switch from vegetarian to vegan because I've learned I don't need dairy or eggs to make a tasty meal. Absolutely wonderful! Beware that the the seating is limited (only about 10 tables which includes the tables they place outside). However, you can usually get a seat quickly. And parking can be a bear (it's on Gayley in Westwood). Bring lots of quarters or prepare to park in the parking structures for a fee. Of course, the meal is always worth this hassle.

I crave Native Foods on a daily basis. If being vegan meant eating their food everyday, for every meal, I would've made the switch yesterday. But I don't have their food at my disposal...so I'm just a regular vegetarian. Still, I haven't found any place with better vegan food than Native Foods. They have everything you could never have imagined a vegan to eat...philly peppersteak sandwich, bbq chicken pizza, chicken run ranch burger (spicy blackened is best!), save the chicken wings with spicy bbq sauce, tijuana tacos with soy ground meat, and the list goes on and on and on. Their chili cheese fries are TO DIE FOR. A co-worker of mine (a real carnivore) said they were the best chili cheese fries he has EVER had. The service is excellent with friendly, suggestion-giving staff. I love Native Foods. Los Angeles is a better city having this restaurant here.

Native Foods is all vegan, but don't let that scare you away if you eat meat, because this stuff is delicious! Feeling decadent? Go for chili cheese fries, and the tasty Chicken Run Ranch Burger, which is a fried soy chicken sandwich with ranch dressing. Health conscious? Try their wonderful macro bowl, a filling combination of brown rice, quinoa, tempeh, and steamed land and sea vegetables. Theres also salad, soup and pizza -- something for every taste. Food is prepared promptly, but seating is very limited, so at busy times you might want to get yours to go. Be prepared to hunt for a meter or pay for flat rate parking. Or, call ahead to place your order and have your friend circle the block while you pick it up! They've recently lowered some of their prices, so now they're an even better value.

Native Foods is by far the best place to get vegan food in Los Angeles. The use ABSOLUTELY NO animal products in any of their food, but their food is not dry and tasteless, the way some might expect. All of their dishes are full of tasty, fresh ingredients, and their "meat" substitutes, like tempeh and seitan, are all made in-house.

I highly recommend their jambalaya (full of "sausage" and "beef") and their portabella sandwhich. Their chili cheese fries are to die for, and any of their desserts are sure to please as well.

Best of all, Native Foods is extremely affordable, and they even give a generous discount to students and KCRW members.

Its pretty easy to miss this Westwood eatery, despite the dangling sigh above the door. A narrow passageway leads into the counter where you place your order for delicious organic dishes that simulate chicken and other meats with the use of soy and other vegan products. The food is surprisingly meaty, despite being faked!

This restaurant is worth trying. I was extremely skeptical about all the "fake" meat products and was looking for mistakes, but the soy-based products even fooled a chicken connoisseur like myself. A little pricy for smaller portions, but it always costs more to eat earth-friendly organic. Worth a visit.
