4 Stars: Worth it (by Carolyn C.)

I love going to Spicy City Chinese Restaurant, the food is always delicious and authentic! It is one of the best places I have found in San Diego for Chinese food! I highly recommend it.

5 Stars: Best Chinese food in SD (by Mike a.)

Under new management: it used to be great, and now its even greater. I'm ethnically Chinese and have eaten Chinese food all over the US and in China. This restaurant is by far the best Chinese place in SD and very authentic. If you like spicy food this place is a must. I personally recommend the cumin lamb. Melt in your mouth tender, spicy, and with a cumin and pepper kick. It's awesome! One of my favorites. All dishes are 5-12 dollars.

5 Stars: Spicy City - Hidden Gem on Convoy Street (by Jason L.)

I am a connoisseur of Chinese food and have sampled Chinese fare all over the country; Bay Area, LA, Seattle, the midwest and, of course, San Diego. The best Szechuan Chinese food can only be had at Spicy City. I've been a loyal diner there since Spicy City opened in 2002. Even standard Chinese dishes like Orange Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and Won Ton Soup will surprise you at Spicy City. You haven't had these standard dishes until you've had them at Spicy City! My recommendations are that you try a few dishes and eat family style. Try the Spicy Boiled Beef, Baby Bok Choy with Black Mushrooms, Chef's Special Green Beans and Ma Po Tofu. If you don't want your food too spicy, the chef will easily tone it down at your request. (There is one dish I'd recommend skipping -- some sour cabbage thing.)

5 Stars: Traditional Chinese food with a kick! (by Tiffany P.)

Spicy City is not for the weak stomach! While there are some mild dishes there for those who cannot handle hot foods, they are known for their entrees that bite back. I can handle spiciness extremely well, and there were still things we ordered that challenged my limits. Be prepared to drink a lot of water! Do not be fooled by the spiciness, as you may think that may cover food of mediocre quality. The food tastes great!
