I get the feeling the only people that give a store a rating are unhappy people. I have been shopping there for years and have never had a bad experience. Huge inventory, great service...highly recommended.

I do not uunderstand the bad reviews these guys are getting. I went in despite the bad reviews and received very good advice even though I only bought a battery charger for my Canon EOS 5D. I ended up buying a lens cap and UV Filter as well. They mad nice compliments about my lens as well. Two days later I called to compare their price with Amazon for a Tamron zoom lens. They said they had the lens but it would not work well with my camera. I nearly busted $654 at Amazon. I think these guys are good and honest. I most certainly will be back if I need any photographic equipment whilst in San Francisco.

DO NOT BUY FROM DISCOUNT CAMERA.\r\n\r\nLast year when I was in the market for a DSLR, they quoted me a price for a NikonD90 that was about $400 more that Best Buy and Wold Camera. That was when I decided they definitely do not provide a ""discount"". Needless to say, I didn't purchase my DSLR there. \r\n\r\nWhen I was ready to purchase my Canon S95, I did my research thoroughly and knew what I should expect to pay. I went in to Discount Camera because they offered the same price. A month later, I started having major problems with the camera. Canon told me to go to the store I purchased it from. I went in with a list of things that were going wrong and they said, clearly there was something wrong with the motherboard - it was defective product. THEY SOLD ME A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. Then, they said they would send it out for repair since it was under warranty and that I would have it back in 2 weeks. 3 weeks later, I called to get an idea of when I could expect to get it back AND THEY HAD NO ETA!!! I made them call Canon and was told that Canon hasnot even started working on it and has no idea whenit will be ready.\r\n\r\nI asked to call Canon myself and was told that they couldn't give me their vendor info. So I just have to wait indefinitely for a camera i paid $400 for, just a few months ago, because, you know, they sold me a defective camera.

I've been shopping there since I bought my first camera about 28 years ago. Im surprised at some of the comments, since I have always had good experiences there. Very knowledgeable sales staff and huge inventory.

A friend from Australia was sent by a hotel concierge to this place to buy a camera. She and her -20-month old shopped and were treated well during the initial process. She got home to find that they had given her a lower grade camera for the higher grade price -- a $200 plus dollar difference. When se returned to exchange, reciept in hand. They refused and started to rough her up until she called for the ploice. They literally were manhandling a woman with a baby in a backback in the store. THIS PLACE GIVES AMERICA AND AMERICANS A BAD NAME!!!! Never send anyone there. Warn your friends, send your enemies. I was totally embarassed by their treatment of foreign visitor!

People there look much too clever .... to be honest!\nNow back home, I could have a look at market prices, and I found out, with no surprise, that I finally paid around 20 % overprice for a Panasonic FZ28 camera, and 50% overprice for an a-data SDHC 8GB class 6 card...\n\n\nKeep away from that store, that is my piece of advice!

Living in the east bay and looking for the best deal on a Nikon D80 is most practically done on line or by phone, as taking a leisurely jaunt into the city isn't cost effective or practical for the purpose of price shopping. This company will not give price quotes over the phone, even when they stand to make a $1000+ profit. Not good business in my book!

Everything in this store is extremely overpriced (Nikon D200 + 18-200 kit: 2,700$, 2GB memory card: 190$, ...). Avoid this store like a plague. \r\n\r\nBenjamin.

I've been to this store twice. The first time I didn't like having to wait and wait for an assistant, but once someone helped me things were ok. I bought just a filter though after figuring out that somethings were just way too expensive.\r\n\r\nSo the second time I went to pick up just a Compact Flash card. Something you can get anywhere. Again I had to wait and wait. Then the sales guy just kind of looked at me, so I asked if he was busy. He said no, so I asked to see an item. It was $100 over priced. So I said no that is too expensive, how much is this one. He told me that if I couldn't aford anything then I he didn't need to even bother looking up the price. I was shocked. I had my young daughter with, so I didn't feel comfortable telling him what I really though. Anyway I am an executive. I make good money. Extremely insulting to be told from a sales guy that we don't want your business.\r\n\r\nI suspect that these people are not interested in selling to locals, otherwise I can't imagine making someone so mad over an item that be bought on every other corner. You'll be much happier avoiding this place.

I called about an Anamorphic lens cleaning one day, I figured I'd treat myself and get it cleaned. Of course, they wouldn't give me a quote over the phone, so I had to come in to have them tell me it would cost 75$. I should have turned around and walked out the door (I had paid $25 before at a much smaller shop in Anchorage, Alaska.) Instead I left a $50 deposit. They called me a few hours later asking me to pick it up because they couldn't repair it. I went and picked it up gave it the look over, and noticed something. I was in a hurry so I simply just left, but when I arrived home looked at it closer and noticed scratches on the internal components. After a few phone calls and two visits to the place, they refused that they had done anything wrong. They did not say that they scratches were or weren't their before I brought it in, but they were not willing to replace the lens (~$750 value.)\r\n\r\nI took the case to the BBB. In about a month (2 weeks after the allowed time for a reponse) they said that their repair service tech as ""no amature"" and that they had not done anything to the lens. This exchange is still ongoing. I researched the company (Listed as Rancorf Inc. owner ""Steve Franco"", employees - 1) and they had several unresolved cases from the last 3 years.\r\n\r\nI implore others to file cases with the BBB. Maybe that will make them think twice about customer care.

Discount Cameras offers a variety of brands and choices of cameras and video camcorders. Their employees were helpful at times in helping me choose a camera. The thing I don’t like about this store is that most of their products were overpriced so it might be better to purchase somewhere else and save money.

I was in Discount Camera on Saturday and quoted 39.95 for a 49mm close up lens set. I returned on Monday to purchase the set and was told that the sets were 49.00 and 69.00 and that they didn't even have close up lenses in stock on Saturday. The man was VERY rude and spoke with me as if I was making up my Saturday visit all together. Because of this man's attitude, I will never return to this store. By the way, I never rate stores or restaurants, but found this experience so awful that it must be shared. Go somewhere else where you will be treated with respect.

This last visit I find myself so offended by their aggressive business practices that I feel compelled to write. I had the displeasure of dealing with one of the owners and he was unknowledgeable and boorish. He didnt listen to what I wanted and was just trying to make a sale.

Pros: Nice Selection, good location, no parking

Cons: High pressure sales, sloppy receipts
