Poppy Fabric

Great selection in garment fabrics as well as home decoration/upholstery. I love the unusual choices that are often found here. Lots of natural fibers, which are my favorites. The staff offer helpful and expert advice. The shop is well-organized and well-lit. I can't often shop there without leaving with at least one new project. There is parking along the side of the building and on the street.

While lacking the selection of Britex in San Francisco, Poppy's still has a great selection of cottons, upholstery fabric, and novelty fabrics. It also has a very nice notions section that includes fancy buttons, yarn, and general sewing supplies. The store traffic is generally pretty high, so don't expect to get a lot of help from the salespeople. Also, there tends to be only nicer (expensive) fabrics, probably not the place to go for curtain or bedsheet material.

CONS: High end, busy

Poppy has a great selection of quality fabrics. Various price ranges, too.

I have found notions here that I could not find elsewhere. Friendly and helpful staff.

This place is much better than JoAnne's, as the staff is more long term, therefore their knowledge of the products is better.

Poppy Fabrics has a colorful selection of upholstery and lighter fabrics. Plus all the accoutrements for completing a project. As a beginning sewer, I've found the staff very interested and helpful with the projects I'm working on. They know the merchandise really well, which is amazing considering how many different fabrics they carry.
