FIRST, PLEASE LET ME SAY-I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THIS STORE UNTILL I ATTEMPTED TO SELL ITEMS TO THEM. THIS OPENED UP A WHOLE NEW OUTLOOK FOR ME. I HAD PERVIOUSLY ENJOYED MANY AFTERNOONS SHOPPING AT THIS STORE.
The idea of this store is great-but poorly executed. Selection is fair but crowded...Especially if you use a stroller when shopping. Clothes only up to 4T-I think. The owner is nice and all smiles IF you are a BUYER at her store. She is extremely rude if you want to sell to her. "Oh...we are only looking for the BEST of the BEST....." I watched them pretend to go through my items as they encouraged me to shop for things to spend my store credit on-I thought I would be accumulating. (Be prepared for her eye-rolling, sighs and head-shaking as your items are all unfolded (only what's on top and in the middle)-then wait for the "polite" put-downs). I put all the coveted new "brand-name" stuff on the bottom-accidentaly proving a point to myself and her. I was never given the time of day. It was never really looked at. She is trying to run a high end/used clothing boutique. You will spend a minimum of $6 for a used (lower-end) brand name sleeper/pj. Toys are priced a bit better than the clothing is. Playpens/yards are usually offered at a fair price. Cribs are priced at about 75% of what one would cost you brand new. You can get better deals on brand new clothing (that is name brand or not) at Ross. The only sales person I enjoyed there, moved away several months ago. I would only shop at Merry Go Rounds if she was working. Now that she is gone-I will never shop there again. Unless that is....the owner gets some other sales people to do her job for her. It is pretty unfortunate when a owner makes you feel like you are not worthy or classy enough to be in a SECOND-HAND store.

I dropped off a brand new (with tags) $250 item that I had gotten as a gift and never used...the bottom line is, when Merry Go Round sold it, they never contacted me, and I have yet to receive a single dime from the sale! That was 2 months ago that they sold it! A few weeks ago (because I had no idea that Merry Go Round sold my item), I threw it on Craigslist. Of course, I was able to sell it immediately, so I went to pick my item up from Merry Go Round...and they said they sold it back in November (it is now late January). They sold it 2 months ago and never called me (even though they had my number on file) and never sent a check, emailed, or anything! So far I have spent this week (and last week) calling and emailing trying to track down my 50% of what they sold it for--as they originally promised. Wow...the owner (Colleen Twomey) won't even get the phone, reply to my messages, or email me back. Are they so broke that they don't even have the money to pay me? Is Merry Go Round about to go under? I keep being told to try calling again some other time by the sales help, she said only the owner is able to give anyone money?!? They are making me leave my job to come to the store duing the couple of hours this owner comes to the store, and these couple of hours are only three days per week. I guess I have to take time off work and get a babysitter just to make contact with this owner in person (which I'm told is my only option since the sales clerks are given zero authority to do anything other than collect other people's money). And the owner has had every opportunity to mail me a check, or communicate in some method with me. This is a serious scam store, so beware of taking your more expensive consignment items to them. Also, all women who work here are very rude and look down on anyone dropping off used items (even though that is how they make their money...giving people a dollar for a baby dress and selling it for ten). I felt so uncomfortable here when I dropped off this one item in the first place, that I didn't even look around. I left the store immediately because they treat you like a homeless person trying to cash out on used junk. Also, one time after I had recently dropped the item off in the first place and went to see if it had sold, I saw Merry Go Round had stuffed my item under a pile of old nasty baby gear (inside an old, used crib) in the back of the store by the storage closet. I then told the store I would like to pick it up and sell it myself if this was where they were going to put it. However, they said they would move it to the front, and of course it sold immediately...they just pocketed the money and never told me. Even if I someday get my money, I will never be back to Merry Go Round in San Luis Obispo again. Only go to this store if you want to feel like a poor beggar, and don't drop anything off to sell since it will be a full time job tracking down your profits. Just donate it to GoodWill, or if it's a really pricy item, try Craigslist or eBay.

Business Response:

Consignment We normally pay cash up front for our items. Occasionally we do put high end items on consignment. This was an unfortunate incident. As soon as it was brought to my attention, a check was sent out immediately. I also tried to contact this person by phone twice and did leave a message. I have been in business for 22 years and would never not pay someone deliberately. Hopefully, this will never happen again and we are putting some new procedures in place to make sure that it does not. Please come in and check out our store. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

It's so nice to have a place like this in town. A place where you can buy children's clothing without paying an arm and a leg and know that you're doing your part to reduce our footprint on the earth. This makes so much sense to families during times like these when every penny counts, especially when children outgrow their clothing and toys so very quickly.

This store has everything used for kids and babies. They have used toys, clothes and baby items. They even have some hard to find items. Their prices are great and they also pay pretty good for your used items. I was really impressed at the prices and the condition of the items. The customer service is great. When I was in the hospital after having had my baby, the nurse called over to Merrry Go Round to see if they had a particular breastfeeding pillow that I wanted and they did have it. They saved it for my husband until he could get over there and pick it up. I would highly recommend this store to get some great items at great prices. You can't even tell that most of this stuff is used.

This is a great little second hand store for maternity, baby and children's items. They have some items that are hard to find new and they have reasonable prices. In addition, the owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. The items are all in very good, clean, used condition. They have quite a selection, ranging from breastfeeding pillows to baby clothing to toddler toys.
