I have a complaint filed with the CA attorney general against this company and I advise everyone else to do the same. California statute requires all contracts greater than one year in term be in writing. I am locked into this company for two years for an illegal contract for a watch service and system maintenance fee that was never disclosed to me. I advised them I was never notified of this fee and certainly never agreed to it. They state they reviewed the tape and that I did but they are unable to present me with the tape.
On top of this I have been with them for two months and my service has already been down for 2 weeks in that two month period. I need to miss a day work staying home for a six hour window to meet their technician.
This makes no sense the problem is error code 775 with my Direct TV they only need access to the common area of my condo which I can provide by buzzing them in remotely.
It's been a nightmare every step of the way through with them from their deceptive illegal contract to their horrible service.

HORRIBLE! We constantly have to have them come out to fix their equipment. We pay a yearly maintenance fee for them to keep their equipment up to date and working properly yet it seems to break monthly if not more often.

Their service is spotty. The Picture freezes even though you can hear the sound for minuets at a time. The sound cuts out and the picture keeps going for minuets at a time. The routers fail all the time. The internet is horrible even though we pay extra to make it better.

We had them come out only a week and a half ago only to have the service go out again last night. They couldn't reach the route supervisor to come out the same day so they will not be out until Thursday (2 days later) because they only have someone on site 3 days out of 7. They also could not reach the IT department to have them check their system, it seems every time the come out the guy calls their IT department and they flip some switch to make it work properly. I asked to speak with a supervisor and they also were not available. It was only 330 in the afternoon and the entire building seemed to be missing! I asked that someone call me back which of course they did not.

In San Bruno you can have San Bruno cable or Satellite. It looks like we will be going to San Bruno cable.

I emphasize with the first reviewer. The COA where I reside in San Bruno, CA went with Direct TV through Consolidated Smart Systems (CSS) in 2010, two years ago. Our account is so big they have a dedicated technician on the account.

They are horrible. My apartment complex does not give me a choice about who to use. It took them three visits (and yes, I had to take off work for three days) to get my systems hooked up. They charge outrageous fees and I've tried for over a year to get an account set up on line so I can pay my bills through the internet. That is apparently not an option. Every month they say they will fix it and every month they don't. When you call, you are on hold for 5 to 10 minutes and transferred around forever. And, they close at 5 which the recording doesn't tell you. They do not care about their customers and without permission they have many times charged my credit card for the monthly cable bill. I then get a "past due" notice even though they already charged my account. They are horrible. Do not ever give them a credit card number as they will use it at will and then say it is part of your "contract." If you try to cancel, they say you will owe 100's of dollars for doing so. And, the service only works about half the time. The technicians that came to my house were nice, but that is the only good thing I can say about them. Their business practices cannot be legal, but if you move into a complex that uses them you are stuck. AVOID them at all costs.

The second tech replaced the screws on the first outlet and fixed the second one more firmly to the wall. When he had left, I saw that the second outlet was now fitted at an angle -- not just slightly askew, but wildly out of true. Of course, it looks ridiculous.

I called their 1-800 number (good luck trying to navigate that menu) which referred me to another number (even more luck trying to navigate that), and finally managed to speak to somebody. He said he would call the tech and ask him to return. Needless to say, that is the last I heard of it.

Avoid them if you can.

This company is amazing! I have never had issues with them... It could be maybe because im not wining every time i call them.. things electrical go down all the time! The techs are very nice and helpful. And There Custservice is amazing everytime i call in with a problem they do there best to TS with me I think the reason why all of you think they are so bad is because your yelling at there call reps.. you gotta understand that they just work there they arent there to take your money they are there to do what ever you do.. make a paycheck maybe put that in consideration when you talk to people and they wont treat you badly if you treat them the way you will want to be treated they will do there best and beyond to help.. which they have done for me! But the world is full of Aholes like all of you and i dont blame them.. tell the FCC tell BBB but you dont need to take it out on them... I use to work in custservice and i know how they feel. they prob. dont like working for the company either.. but they have to to feed there familys... Any way off of the rant.. I have had CSS for a long time now and couldnt be happier.. Internet can be sketchy at times... But i still like the service.... and there always willing to help me out

I recently moved from the South Bay to a community that Consolidated serves and I was floored when I search Consolidated and got these negative comments. The technician was there the day I moved in and he was great. I wish all of these people got the service I did.

My first clue as to how bad this company was installation. They gave me a horrible modem and it didn't even work! So they came out a second time. I let the apartment complex oversee them because I couldn't be there. When I returned to my apartment it was clear that the guy had been through my bedroom and probably used my bathroom as the doors were open. Then, it still wasn't working. So it required that the guy come out a THIRD time. At this point it finally worked ... for about six hours. For some reason my connection went out. I called them and they proposed having a service guy come out and if it was determined that I was at fault, they would charge me! There's no easy way to prove it was their problem and I refused. I told them it was working moments ago and now it was not, I hadn't changed anything about my system. It got escalated and magically my service started working again. Now, imagine repeating this process a couple times per week until you want to become Amish. I asked them to cancel my account and I found out yesterday that they have been auto billing me for two months now and they won't refund it. I thought giving the little guy a chance to compete would be a good idea, now I know that was wrong. Do not under any circumstances get DSL service from this company.

This company attempts to strong arm people into using their service by going after apartment complexes where they think the people are stupid. Their own contracts violate just about every federal communications law on the books and the apartments think that they can get away with it. I plan to put my own dish on my own patio and when the apartments go to tell me to take it down. HA HA no no no we will be in court and consolidated smart systems will have to show up and defend themselves and their violations of federal law.

This is the worst company to do business with. On my first bill I recieved from them I was charged a "SERVICE CHARGE" aka Late Fee for starting my service at the end of the month. When I complained to them they said it was nothing they could do. They also refuse to refund the lease fee I paid for a box that I had foe less than a week and want me to return the box to them. I have filed acomplaint with the better business bureau which they have not responded to.

I had signed up for the 6mbs service for $50 per month which was a ripoff. I wish Ii was able to give them negative star. This is not something new. All our neighbors have problem with their service and unfortunately this company is the only option for the building as the management has an exclusive contract with them

I signed up for the digital phone, cable and internet. The technicians were on time and were really helpful. I'll have to say I love the digital phone, especially for the price. My internet is slower than my previous provider and they charge the same, so I will most likely cancel that. The Direct TV will freeze once in a while which annoys me...but for the much lower cost I'm paying for it I can live with that. I can see watching sports and being totally annoyed if the thing freezes. Or if you are watching the news and you miss part of the story which has happened to me. Consolidated routes you back to direct TV for any issues with them. Some of the Direct TV customer service people have attitudes....but I have also talked to nice helpful ones as well. I was annoyed that the direct TV rebate wasn't retroactive and takes about 8 weeks...but once it starts it does go for a full 12 months. Do it right away to avoid further delays.

Consolidated Smart Systems is the worst! Their service is horrible, their internal logistics and communication is BS, and they pretty much have their service men come over to try and charge fees for everything.

I??ve had more than one dispute, but the most recent included them showing up at 245pm when my window was from 8AM-1PM. I wouldn??t mind so much except they actually have the nerves to charge a fee if you miss you window time, and then show up late themselves. Then 2 workers come, one on training? they blame being late on traffic.

I just purchased a new HD DVR.. it wasnt working. They try? oh forget this sh*t, they basically charged me 80 bucks for a ??filter? that comes with DVR. So according to the Manager Tommy, it was a billable charge because the service man came to my apartment and removed a filter that is meant for houses and not apartments (which i live in).. I disputed the fact that the serviceman had to do more than remove a filter, which i myself took off before to see if the HD would work. But he just kept going back to the servicemans notes and saying he had to remove a filter, its billable!

RIP OFF!

If you move make sure you call your credit card company, have them red flag this company. They will continue to charge your credit card. If they owe you money make sure they credit your credit card account. Two months now and still waiting for a check. Oh they said they sent one out July 23, 09. They also bill you a month in advance but you will not get back all the money they owe you. My bill was 27.70 a month. I moved out May 23, 09 so when they charged my credit card in May that was for June. Then they charged my credit card in June. They say they owe me 36.93 I don't know where they learned to do math? They owe me 55.40 plus 9 days in May that should be prorated. This company should be out of bussiness. They make their money by stealing from their customers.I'll be calling my credit card company and letting them go after these crooks. I will also call the BBB and FCC. Consolidated needs to be stopped.

Just for your curiosity - I had tough time to disconnect service - because when I called them - they were unable to locate me as a customer based on my address! I didn't know my account number and they had my name misspelled on the file. Their customer service representative did hang up the phone! I was even afraid the only way to disconnect the service would be to call my credit card company and ask them not to allow any more charges from CSS.

And not to mention - after disconnecting the service - you have to send them all the equipment via mail.

I do NOT recommend this company.

I have worked with Consolidated for a few years, maybe 3, and so far so good. My building is completely ran by this company. I get my washer/dryer, refrigerators, direcTV service and even Internet. Why go anywhere else if they service all. I'm glad to say that if any problems arise, they are responsive in a timely manner. The tenants were content to see how they cared for the customers home, as they wore booties on their shoes to keep the white carpets clean. (very considerate). I read the reviews down bellow, and i was surprised at the comments of these unsatisfied customers, it was shocking.

I cannot tell you how much I hate this company!

To make a really long story short:

I paid for HD channels without getting them for a year. Everytime I called they lied to me and said they would be out in a week to fix the problem. I complained to the management company who said they were having the same problem with them and they were constantly lying and changing their story. Bottom line they had the wrong type of satellite dish on my roof which wasn't capable of the HD programming. Luckily DirectTV was still doing my billing at the time and they refunded all the HD monthly charges.

Finally, after a year they came and told me I would need new boxes (to go with the correct dish capable of full HD), so they replaced the three older ones in my apartment that I owned with "upgraded boxes." After a few months the new one in my room broke.

I called them and they said they would not talk to me until I paid my balance due. I said, I didn't have a balance due and I always pay my bill on time. They told me I owed them $150 for programming and that I should stop paying Direct TV. After some research and a few days they admitted they were double billing me and decided to finally help me with my broken box.

It was then that they informed me owned the box for 97 days and the warranty was only good for 90 days, therefore I would have to pay for a new box ($100) plus I would have to pay a technician $30/hr from the time he left Gardena till he fixed my problem. I said this was ridiculous and I kept calling back until I got the same story from 5 people. I complained to my management company who said they would tell their consolidated rep, they copied me on an email and the person they forwarded my complaint still has not replied after a month. I continued calling and said I want someone to look at my box to see if it can be fixed. I argued that I see their trucks at my complex every day and I there is no reason I should have to pay for them to evaluate my problem. They agreed, they looked at the box and told me it was broken and I would need to pay about $200 to fix the problem. I told them I would not pay them anything since they gave me faulty equipment. They told me that I was leasing my box and I would actually owe them money because it was broken even if I didn't replace it. This is when I lost it! I never signed nor entered a lease and they took MY original equipment to replace it with their garbage. I told them forget it I would rather not have television at all then pay such a corrupt company for equipment that might break in a few month.

I moved on with my life and resigned myself to watching TV in the living room, until this week, when that box broke. I called to complain that now two boxes are broken merely 4 months from when they gave me brand new equipment and they gave me the same song and dance, now I would have to pay approximately $400 to get satellite television back to bedroom and living room. I called and called, I demanded they return my old equipment and they told me too bad and it was my problem. I've decided to cancel everything because living without TV is better than dealing with these jerks.

I am considering taking them to small claims to return my property. I filed a complaint with the FCC

I cannot tell you how much I hate this company!

To make a really long story short:

I paid for HD channels without getting them for a year. Everytime I called they lied to me and said they would be out in a week to fix the problem. I complained to the management company who said they were having the same problem with them and they were constantly lying and changing their story. Bottom line they had the wrong type of satellite dish on my roof which wasn't capable of the HD programming. Luckily DirectTV was still doing my billing at the time and they refunded all the HD monthly charges.

Finally, after a year they came and told me I would need new boxes (to go with the correct dish capable of full HD), so they replaced the three older ones in my apartment that I owned with "upgraded boxes." After a few months the new one in my room broke.

I called them and they said they would not talk to me until I paid my balance due. I said, I didn't have a balance due and I always pay my bill on time. They told me I owed them $150 for programming and that I should stop paying Direct TV. After some research and a few days they admitted they were double billing me and decided to finally help me with my broken box.

It was then that they informed me owned the box for 97 days and the warranty was only good for 90 days, therefore I would have to pay for a new box ($100) plus I would have to pay a technician $30/hr from the time he left Gardena till he fixed my problem. I said this was ridiculous and I kept calling back until I got the same story from 5 people. I complained to my management company who said they would tell their consolidated rep, they copied me on an email and the person they forwarded my complaint still has not replied after a month. I continued calling and said I want someone to look at my box to see if it can be fixed. I argued that I see their trucks at my complex every day and I there is no reason I should have to pay for them to evaluate my problem. They agreed, they looked at the box and told me it was broken and I would need to pay about $200 to fix the problem. I told them I would not pay them anything since they gave me faulty equipment. They told me that I was leasing my box and I would actually owe them money because it was broken even if I didn't replace it. This is when I lost it! I never signed nor entered a lease and they took MY original equipment to replace it with their garbage. I told them forget it I would rather not have television at all then pay such a corrupt company for equipment that might break in a few month.

I moved on with my life and resigned myself to watching TV in the living room, until this week, when that box broke. I purchased 3 High Definition boxes from this company and NOT ONCE did they mention that our building does not receive High Definition channels? I have tried to get my money back from them and get our old boxes back for the past 5 months!!! My final straw was when they hung up on me today because the Consolidated Representative couldn't answer my questions.

He did say that we had some channels... but he didn't know what channels they were. I can tell you that its not any of the local channels - NBC, CBS, and ABC!

They will lie to you so make sure you read all of their info. They told me that the all of the channels work perfectly and the signals will be strong, also told me that the internet connection is solid. DON'T BELIEVE THEM. If your internet connection is important to you better not use their service. I would suggest not even live anywhere that support Consolidated Smart System, why your business will be damaged, your service will be like a third world service. Trust me you will have some major issues.

I moved out because of them due to my business failing...

I'd like to echo the other review here -- when we moved into our building a year ago, we were told that if we wanted TV or Internet, we HAD to go through CSS. The Internet was awful: much slower than advertised, and that was when it worked, which it usually didn't. Soon switched to AT&T DSL and haven't had a single problem since.

As far as the DirecTV goes, our DVR consistently locks us out of channels we should be getting and/or returns a "Signal not found" message. Sometimes resetting the device solves this problem, sometimes not. It's a huge pain in the neck. Nearly half of the programs we try to record fail.

The only thing more frustrating than this is trying to get in touch with CSS, where the voice mailbox is always "full," they have no problem making you wait on the phone for 30 minutes - 1 hr, and have NEVER EVER returned any of my calls like they said they would. This is a terrible company, a crooked and shady operation, and I hope that you never have to deal with them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

This company basically makes their money by renting an exclusive contract to service an apartment building's tenants in regards to high-speed Internet, television (usually DirecTV), and/or appliances like laundry, refrigerator, etc. In some cases these contracts may prohibit other service alternatives, so clarify what options are available at what costs if you may move to a building which contracts services from Consolidated Smart Systems.

In the case of Internet services, they offer generally unsatisfactory service compared to alternatives like DSL or cable (which may not be available in units serviced by CSBS). The service can be slow or intermittent, and their technicians are routinely unhelpful.

For television service, they create or convert a DirecTV account in your name and bill you the normal DirecTV fee PLUS a substantial service fee, which varies based on their arrangement with the landlord. More than a few snafus can arise with this billing arrangement, which may be of particular concern to current DirecTV customers who do not want their account tarnished.

Beware of entering into any business arrangement with these guys! Read all contracts thoroughly and if possible, do so *before* you seriously consider moving into any place that does business with this "service provider"...
