I normally don't write these type of reviews, but my experience with this restaraunt was so poor, that I felt compeled to warn the public. My fiance and I went to Stevie's Creole Cafe for new years eve. We've heard some horrible things

We went here with two other couple for a night out. First time all of us could get baby sitters in a long time. We ordered and waited and waited the food never came. People around us were complaining because their food was not coming.

I don't know what people are talking about, I only got lunch to go but I loved every bite and the price was comparable to other creole joints I have been to. Ican't wait to to back for dinner and entertainment.

I go to Stevie's often and I really like the place ,but the food is not good at all. They really need to invest in a cook that can give you some real Creole food. I will not go back and my friends feel the same way.

This place is really a gem. I've read the other comments and although 80% of the people can hardly type a complete sentence...I truly think this place is worthwhile and would suggest to the people who haven't been to Stevie's yet that you should not take the other peoples reviews in high regard and based on my experience there, Stevie's clientele is very diverse ranging from class-less people to the Los Angeles elite and celebrities. On another note, the entertainment is great for the most part, The First Friday event is always soo much and it gets very packed so I suggest making a reservation. My favorite dish there is the Chicken Seafood Combo, it comes with chicken, catfish, and shrimp and you have the choice of having it fried or grilled with two sides. The dish along with all the fried dishes comes with Spicy Ranch which is delicious and different. I think everyone who has the opportunity to dine at Stevie's should go asap this place is really great and the staff treats you like family the more you frequent the restaurant. I'm also excited for the Deniece Williams and Kevon Edmonds show happening in June!

I have had some of the best dishes there - I loved Shrimp N'awlins and Crawfish Etufee, and I take most of my guests from out of the country there, everyone was impressed by food. I had good service every time Eric served me. And we had several unforgettable parties there. But there were couple of times my food came too salty (and I can take salty, which tells me for milder people it would be completely inedible), so I am taking off one star for that.

My friends and some family members have been to Stevie's in Encino many, many times over the years. The food was AMAZING! I don't eat seafood and I ate the jumbo shrimp with the spicy ranch sauce (making me hungry right now). Yes, they are a bit overpriced and like any small business owned place they do tend to seat those they know before others; however, how is that different to any other establishment? Waiting 20 minutes to be seated is nothing... I know people who have waited two hours without reservations and with reservations about 30 minutes. The place is always trying to accomidate... they do not always succeed at making everyone happy but they always made us happy! I recommend Stevie's to everyone and will continue doing so until I receive bad/ horrible service and food.

A word of advice to all future Stevie's customers...if you make reservations make them two weeks in advance (or less if it is just for casual dining) and the day of your reservation call two hours in advance to ensure you know what the environment is like.

If there is a "celebrity" going to be there...call the day of to make sure they have not canceled! Just as any place of business... people cancel last minute all the time!

The food is horrible, I've been several occasions and quite frankly they should change chefs. The fish is never fresh and it's too greasy. The corn bread is good, but everything is nasty. My party is always aware never expect a really good meal, it would be the best restaurant only if the food was tolerable. Most people who are not from the south or creole themeselves will think the food is awesome until they taste real southern and creole cooking. Sorry

I visited Stevies about a year ago. It was raining when we got there. We were attending a reserved birthday party and I couldn't understand why we had to wait in the rain when we had a reserved section. After being seated, I noticed drops of water dripping on my husbands shirt and then onto the table. We informed the waitress, we had to move, the table was separated, it was horrible. the manager was really rude and didn't even try to apease us by all the inconvience. I will never go back and I continue to tell my friends how overated it is!

My best friend and I have the same birthday, she suggested Stevie's for our annual girls night dinner. We got there around 8:30 or 9:00. we were seated right away and had our cocktails shortly after being seated. the band was setting up. We got our food in no time. we weren't charged a fee for the band, food was outstanding! Great vibe, band fantastic. Going again tonight with one of my girlfriends from Vegas. I know she is going to love this place.

I arrived at 7pm. It was not crowded . waiter toke order. by 8pm still no food and more people was showing up and the Band was setting up to play. by 9pm still no food and the band started playing. finally by 9:30 pm I got my food. So overall, beside that fact it was soooo loud, it took them 2 hours and 30 minutes to get our food. When i got the bill, they had the nerve to charge us extra $7 per person service fee for the band. I felt that I should not have to pay it because of the wait. They should of been happy that i did not leave. I told my friend about this experience there. And he told me the reason why they make you wait because Stevies want you to eat when the band starts playing so that they can charge one a service fee for watching the band.

After driving around all evening trying to find a place to eat on the way back to my hotel, me and 2 coworkers randomly found Stevie's on our GPS restaurant search. (Roscoe's was our 1st choice, but it would have been out of the way) We showed up about an hour before closing and the place was pretty empty. After looking around the resaturant and going to the restroom, I was a bit concerned about our decision to eat there. Then I opened the menu and saw the prices (which were a bit steep for my 1st impression of the place) and was finding it hard to believe that the seafood gumbo was being boasted about...Our server, Marta, was very helpful with explaining the menu. We got the gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and jambalaya. We all took turns tasting each other's meals and we all agreed that this was some of the best cajun food we'd ever had! Marta was so helpful...and after hearing our story about Roscoe's and hearing that were were only here for a week, Not only did she tell us of a few fun things to do around LA, but she took the time to write out directions to Roscoe's as well as to a few other places we might like to visit. Overall a GREAT experience!!!

My first experience at Stevie's and I was LET DOWN. I stood at the door 8 minutes, before anyone even approached me. Then, when I was seated, the rest of my party joined me within 5 minutes. We sat there for 20 minutes and watched the waitress work other tables and treat us as if we were non existent. We finally flagged her down and she took our orders...an hour had gone by and we still hadn't received our meals. When we flagged her down again, she went to check on our food and told us that the Cooks had lost our ticket and they were making our food right away...it still took another 30 minutes for us to get our food. The waitress was unapologetic and expected us to pay full price and complained about her tip. When I asked for the manager, she told me that she was the manager...LOL. Anyway, the food was really good and the entertainment was "ok." But I will not go back or recommend this place, unless I hear that things have changed drastically with the wait staff and the timely manner of which service is provided.

I brought my aunt to Stevie's a couple of weeks ago. They charged us 10 bucks to listen to some singers that we couldn't even hear because the sound system was sooooo HORRIBLE. They seated us quickly but we never saw a waitress the whole 90 mintues we were there! I told the hostess several times but her excuse was that the waitress was new and a little slow. Gee...that was the same excuse the last time we were there! Needless to say...McDonalds was the highlight of the evening.

I work for DOD and use to live in California. When I had an opportunity to return to Cali I made reservations at Stevies for 14 people on Sept 21, 2007. I had frequented Stevies several times prior to my relocation, I was eager to return and enjoy the evening. Previously all my encounters at Stevies were wonderful. My how times have changed......The service was horrible, inexperienced waitress just pretty much rude. Cover charge even though we purchased dinner and cocktails and arrived 7pm. I will NEVER again patronize Stevie's, I had recommended this establishment to numerous people, but will never again in the future.

The food is excellent and depending on the night you go the entertainment is great. They are slow sometimes but when you get the food it will be worth the wait. The portions are huge and the environment is real chill. It is a nice black owned establishment and I will continue to support it.

Reservatins at 8:00 pm, seated at 9:30 pm, no waitress, no drinks, no food - menu provided at 10:15 p.m. and then told rice couldn't be substituted for grits. Many many African Americans arrived much later than my group, and they were seated and served. The Manager was there, and owner, Stevie, was there and didn't lift a finger to make things right for my birthday celebration. We were STARVING and left at 10:45 pm. The sound system is HORRIBLE, the entertainment marginal, service is HORRIBLE and the management is by far the worst I've ever seen in my 60 years. DON'T GO THERE.

PROS: NONE - DON'T GO THERE
CONS: SERVICE, MANAGEMENT AND SOUND SYSTEM SUCK!

Went to Stevie's on Ventura for my son's 35th birthday. Had reservations, but when we got there they had to put together a table for us after waiting 15 minutes. Waited another 45 minutes before they decided who was the waiter/waitress for our table. The food was not good. Baked potato under cooked, shrimp over cooked (too tough). Even my 8 year old granddaughter said "I don't like this place". What was supposed to be a good evening turned out awfully bad. The next time I want Cajun or Creole I will stick with Harold's and Belle's where the service is always good and the food is excellent.

PROS: None to speak of
CONS: Food, service

I have ben to Stevie's 3 times, hoping that each time would get better. Management is rude and unprofessional. I wanted to reserve a party and Stevie himself was so rude I cancelled by reservation of 40 people. The food is good, but I refuse to patronize our black businessess for horrible service.

PROS: food and band
CONS: management, owner, & service
