Scandinavian Designs

I like to think of this place as a slightly more upscale IKEA.

I bought my couch there and I've been very happy with it.

It is a bit expensive when you're used to cheap furniture, but it's still reasonable.

My biggest complaint is their inventory management system. They kept telling us our couch was coming but it took THREE WEEKS to finally arrive. I wouldn't have cared but they kept assuring us it was "in the next day or two". I just want a realistic answer not missed promises.

This store has a lot of attractive furniture that will attract even the most casual shopper.

But, as most college students can tell you, this place will stretch your budget quite a bit.

The store is located conveniently in the heart of Berkeley. This is a plus. The help is nice and courteous as well.

Before the days of Ikea, many post-college students got their furniture from Scandinavian Designs. The furniture style is very similar to Ikea, but the main difference is that they have a range of prices, so they'll generally have one version on the cheap side (like Ikea), but also more expensive styles (still modern Scandinavian in style) that you wouldn't find at Ikea. I would only recommend if you particularly like that style of home decorating.

I haven't been to this store in a while, but when I was there they have soem really nice designs and the price seem affordable for the quality you are getting. They have a few stores located mostly in Northern California.

The designs of the furniture items at this store might seem like something you'd see at an Ikea, but the quality here is 10 times better. They have furniture for the living room, dining room, bedroom, and office. If you ever pass by one of these stores, it worth a look - if not to buy, but to just get design ideas. They seem to be expanding their store locations, so check the website to see if one is near you. Also, you can order a catalog of their furniture online.
