YAS Fitness Centers was founded by Kimberly Fowler, a tri-athlete and health and fitness expert, looking for a way to make yoga more relevant to athletes. YAS is expanding so there will be more convenient locations soon. YAS Yoga Studio in Venice attracts people of all fitness levels who are looking for a way to strengthen and push their bodies. Kimberly offers her signature YOGA for ATHLETES?, a one-hour class focused on yoga poses geared to help an athlete with his or her performance in any sport. Her YAS class is a combination of a 1/2 hour of the intense cardio of YAS Indoor Cycling and a 1/2 hour of the relaxing and meditative element of Yoga. YAS Wear features tanks, tees, hoodies, fleece pants and capris designed for yoga and an active lifestyle and it is now available exclusively online and at YAS fitness centers. Come find out why all the celebrities love us.
YAS Fitness Centers is the worst place ever

Keep away from this club. The owner threatened and harassed me when I objected to her playing Satanic music by Led Zeplin.
Led Zeppelin is Satanic to the core. In the song "Houses of the Holy," Robert Plant (lead singer) speaks of Satan's daughter and making her garden grow (a sexual reference). The album cover displays naked women crawling towards the top of the temple. It's sickening in the name of decency. Anyone who denies the occult inspiration of Led Zeppelin's music is woefully deceived.

YAS is a MUST
by C G.
I joined YAS a year ago and got addicted to it. The environment is great, the people are awesome and the Yoga for Athletes class gave me muscles I never knew I had. In addition, by adding spinning to my workout I was able to lose 20 lbs and look as hot as ever. I highly recommend. Too bad Kimberly doesn't teach more classes!!!!!

It's the best. It's a beautiful, safisticated, hip, warm and a welcoming environment. You should really check it out.

Ya's Yoga & Spinning Center has a zen atmosphere and excellent teachers. If you go to the classes at off times, you might even get a one-on-one session! Checkout their website for a coupon for a free class. They have cute Ya's work-out clothing in the lobby for sale. Parking is sparse, so jog or bike if possible. The new Yoga For Athletes class is a must try!

OMG! The review below is hilarious-did he actually go to YAS
by Number44
I like YAS for the mix of Yoga and Spinning. But, they only have 2 of those classes a day. I think they hope you will just take 2 classes instead and then pay double. The yoga section is really basic and is like watching a dvd. The poses are exactly the same every time and not very challenging. All in all, this is a fun workout for once a week, but it would get boring doing it all the time.
Pros: Good cross train
Cons: Yoga is very basic and is the same everytime!

Keep away from YAS. Bad Experience
by johnnyzee
Keep away from this club. The owner threatened and harassed me when I objected to her playing Satanic music by Led Zeplin.
Please understand that I don't condemn anyone, for the Bible condemns all of us as sinners.
Led Zeppelin also introduced personal occult symbols on one of their albums. Guitarist Jimmy Page of Zeppelin is a devout follower of Satanist, Aleister Crowley, who proclaimed himself as "The Beast 666." Aleister Crowley was also a 33rd and 97th Degree Freemason and is recognized as the master Satanist of the 20th century. In 1971, guitarist Jimmy Page bought Crowley?s Boleskine House on the shore of Loch Ness where Crowley practiced his Hellish, Satanic sex-magick rituals, including human sacrifices. Guitarist Jimmy Page actually performed Crowley magical rituals during their concerts. Their song "Stairway to Heaven" carries the reference "May Queen," which is purported to be the name of a hideous poem by Crowley. In fact, Zed Zeppelin's songs are saturated with Aleister Crowley's Satanic doctrines...
Pros: no pros
Cons: the owners are cons

Love to Spin at YAS
by fashionlady88
Whenever I am in town I go to YAS for a spin class. Great energy, great instructors, I hope they open one in NYC!
Pros: Very friendly and energetic staff!
Cons: none

by radscience
It is the perfect blend..do the spinning class first then the yoga. Look...this place is NOT for really serious Yogi types but it suites people who want to get the most benefit out of their workouts while avoiding injuries and are really serious about their fitness. The music also is amazing!!
Pros: fun. active. friendly.
Cons: too crowded

can only comment on spin. very basic, monotonous routine. probably not a bad place to learn. teachers are not any better, and in many case much worse, than what you'd get at a full-on gym (which is surprising given the focus on spinning here)

I am skeptical about EVERYTHING
by aprilskeptic
My email address says a lot about me. I try new things all of the time but am always looking for what's wrong. I was on the Yoga Journal website and read a posting about YAS and the writer seemed a lot like me. So, I decided to check out their Yoga for Athletes class. I have to say, the class was hard! I was sweating like CRAZY (which I like), the class was packed (which I like) and when I looked around the room I was surrounded by celebrity types (which was kind of cool in a LA sort of way). The people seemed really happy to be there. Kimberly Fowler, who taught the class was inspiring. I bought a 10 class pass and plan on making YAS part of my routine. This skeptic gives YAS a big thumbs up!
Pros: The teachers, the people, the environment, the staff
Cons: Parking was a little challenging

GET "YAWNED"
by hoddarling
Obviously the people writing the great reviews own YAS, and are on the desperate, self promotion band wagon as they get ready to unleash their uninspirational workout monster on L.A. Getting "YASED" simply means mundane, repetitive, non inspirational yoga, coupled with the same old spun spin. No imagination or variation. If you've had a lobotomy, are mentally challenged, or know nothing about yoga and spinning, then this is the place for you. There?s nothing like doing yoga to the ?Smashing Pumpkins? to get centered. The environment is as cold as the staff and the moves as rigid as the personalities. And if you are drawn to self indulgent, self absorb instructors (sans a few) that are like step ford wives in their approach to spinning and yoga, then go to Yas.
Pros: you can leave
Cons: repetitive...always the same

Have you been YAS'd??
by jdubyoo
The best yoga I have done in LA! A straight up approach to yoga that has a kick to it with the addition of spinning....If you want to get in the amazing shape give this place a try. Do a spin class followed by the yoga and you'll work up a serious sweat and feel great....awesome instructors, friendly staff that know your name, not just scanning a card...Go get YAS'd!!!
Pros: Instructors, Atmosphere, Great music in the Spinning

YAS Rocks!!!!
by Weatherby721
Great location, atmosphere and instructors make YAS the number one Yoga and Spinning studio in the LA area. Love the intensity and music that the Spinning instructors bring to their classes and after a Spinning class the best way to finish is with a Yoga for Athletes class.
Pros: Always a great workout.

great classes, great instructors, fun and challenging workouts!
by kcase818
I've been going to YAS for years and I love the fact that at any time of day I'm pretty much guaranteed that there will be a yoga or spin class I can attend...there are just SOOOO many classes. The instructors are great, the staff is very personable and its just a place I can count on getting a good workout in and having fun while doing it. I love this place! :)
Pros: great instructors, lots of offered class times
Cons: parking can be difficult during evening classes...so just give yourself a few extra minutes

Best YOGA workout in the city-it cuts to the chase
by melissazinn
I am not your "typical" yogi and I love the no-nonsense approach of Yoga for Athletes. It's the perfect amount of time, 1-hour and you sweat like crazy. It keeps me strong and flexible. I am an athlete and have not had one injury since I started taking the class. YAS, you ROCK!!!!
Pros: Classes are great, cool space, great teachers
Cons: Classes are packed (but it's worth it)

Yoga ? seriously.....
by JTW15
I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with the Yoga for Athletes class. It seriously should not even be called Yoga. The instructor did not even mention breathing, benefits or what part of the body I should be using. Maybe the Spin classes are okay, but I do not recommend taking a yoga class there. If you are a serious Yogi, try a more in depth class.

I love it, I love it, I love it!
by epicuriousla
What can I say, I've always been intrigued by the mysteriously generic gray building on the corner of Abbot Kinney and Westminster. Even more, I was completely intimidated by the garage full of sweaty, yelping people pedaling their brains out to FANTASTIC music early in the morning. On my first visit, I came with a friend to a level 1-2 yoga class. And man was I pleasantly surprised! I was first struck by the teacher, who right off, asked my name, introduced herself; really seemed interested&concerned. The level of the class was great too; it's a set sequence of positions, first a flow sequence that is pretty challening, then floor work, stretches. The class title tells it like it is "Yoga for Athletes," you won't find a huge amount of spiritual stuff in this class, it's pretty active from the get-go, which, I happen to like. The studio is beautiful, warm, lovely wood flooring, no mirrors, which I think is just brilliant, lots of space (though classes can be crowded at certain times). Couldn't ask for a better atmostphere.
Since that first yoga experience I've gotten into the spin room, and man do I love it. After visiting the studio several times, I noticed that there is quite a wide variety of people who visit YAS, long-time spinners, newbies, hard bodies, not so hard bodies - it's great! As mentioned previously, the teachers have incredible energy and great music, each teacher has their own style, some are more pop, some classic rock, there are even a couple theme classes, disco and dance. Trust me when I saw there is something for everyone. The class is a set sequence, but you can always challenge yourself with the resistence. I like that I can go to the class and know what to expect. I sweat EVERYTIME I go! And if I can muster staying for yoga after spin, all the better, my body feels AMAZING! I get my cardio, strength and stretch all at once! You really can't beat it. Do call ahead for popular classes, and give yourself time to park.
Pros: lots of classes, energetic teachers, energetic music
Cons: parking, certain classes can be crowded

Best Spinning Classes in LA area
by bharper47
I've been working out at YAS for the past three months and just love it! The instructors are great and the facility is top notch. The Yoga classes have definitely enhanced my strength and flexibilty and I've dropped 15lbs Spinning my butt off. I always feel great after a workout at YAS both physically & mentally.
Pros: Instructors, Equipment & Ambience
Cons: Nothing

Best Workout in California!!!
by msyogi
I've been going to YAS for over about a year now any time I can. I travel from TX and go there at least 1 weekend out of every month and often more. I've gotten my friends and family to go with me, and we all love it! It's a complete and efficient workout that is accessible to everyone - regardless of age and fitness level. I am an exercise fanatic, and really appreciate the intelligence behind this complete regime. I saw 1 negative review which was clearly from a competitive gym owner or a jealous muscle head trainer. If you want long, sleek, muscles, a lean body, and a strong heart, YAS is a great choice for you. Kimberly Fowler is excellent and has a world class staff of teachers. They are all friendly and encouraging as they challenge you to push your edge. I travel frequently and am lucky enough to experience many exercise facilities both domestically and internationally. YAS is one of the best in the world!
Pros: Awesome and efficient workout
Cons: I don't live close enough to go every day!

The most complete workout
by iluvyas
OMG!! What a great work out. The Idea of spinning and Yoga(for Athletes) is a complete body work out. Kimbrely Fowler has got this format down!! First a crazy interval cardio workout w/ spin, (my HR monitor indicated I burned 677 kCal). Then I transition into a YOGA 4 Athletes class, where my strength and focus are totally challenged. I'v never sweat so much in my life!! My body is challenged on every level. My muscles have become toned and strong; not to mention all the weight loss. WOW!! Thanks YAS!! Kimberly's Teacher Training obviously is top rate, as all of the instructors have a great depth of knowledge and are very helpful. The Teachers just ROCK!! Their energy is infectious and wildly motivating.
Pros: Strong Teaching Staff. Helpful front desk. YAS clothing on site.

Best sweat in town - Venice Style
by broadway25
Even from the outside, YAS is intriguing with its sleek, minimalist looking exterior. But there is truly so much more than just a hip studio space inside. There?s nothing intimidating about it. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming; the staff is friendly; and most importantly the workouts are killer! They offer more classes than any other studio around, so no matter what your schedule, you can find a spin or yoga class that fits in. Or, do both and get your cardio and strength & flexibility workout all in one place. It?s great? you always know what you?re going to get - there are no surprises; no gimmicks ? just a solid workout. Plus, at YAS you get the ideal bonus: great music, experienced instructors and a room full of sweaty, yet smiling faces all just as inspired to ?tap it up? as you. I always leave feeling more energized than when I arrived. How many exercise classes can you say that about?
Pros: challenging classes for all levels, great ambience, hip/comfy clothing line

energizing yas class
by caribqty
Hey guys take this yas class it's fantastic, energizing and refreshing!!
I am a beginner and novice In the art of yoga and spinning...but let me tell you the instructor Melissa makes you feel comfortable when unsure and encourages you when you are tired. The class is not overwhelming for beginners and rigorous enough for the experts.
Great job Melissa keep up the good work!
Will definitely be taking your class again and recommend to freinds.
Pros: convenient time, courteous staff, knowledgable instructors
Cons: come early parkingis scarce

Best Spinning & Yoga Workout
by mellatte
I have been going to YAS for about 6 years (a few months after it opened!) and i cannot disagree more with the previous review! Clearly the man below did not "tap it up"--because if he had--he not only would have had an amazing cardio workout--the definition added to the legs, stomach,arms--is unreal--it requires you to engage your entire body. As for weights--I don't think there is a better weight workout than the Yoga for Athletes--a person's own body is the best set of weights available--I am continually inspired to grow at YAS both physically and mentally--the challenge is there for the taking--I appreciate the space, the teachers and the management that continues to make this one of the best places to workout in LA.
Pros: amazing space, excellent teachers
Cons: none

Just Cardio! Weak boring workout
by jrrobinson
This has got to be the worst workout I have ever done. I don't get why people flock to this class. The workout is the same every time. There is absolutely no variety in the program and no form of resistance at all. I was very disappointed and felt like I just wasted an hour. People who solely work out at YAS have no understanding of what the body really needs as far as exercise goes. Any research you do on fitness states you need to do weights no matter what your fitness goals are. Weight training burns more fat than cardio and also helps with bone density and joint strength. The most effective workout classes out there are those programs that include weights.
Pros: Nice Bikes
Cons: Horrible class

YAS keeps us motivated & in shape
by joanie52
YAS was first introduced to me & my family by our realtor/YAS member. The combination of spinning & yoga has been the best thing for our family. Like many other high powered individuals at YAS, each person attends classes that fit his/her personality & needs. Each teacher brings their own personality to the class, even though the classes are choreographed to the YAS profile.
Kim Fowler has such popular yoga classes that most of the time they are packed, so we try to go to other classes which are small, personalized & have equally capable instructors.
Pros: local, great music, fun, variety of times
Cons: wait-list for those weekend classes

No longer the best kept secret
by nowita65
YAS used to be my little secret, now it's crazy. If you don't call and sign up for spin classes 24 hours in advance you don't get in. The yoga classes are getting so crowded that you need to show up extra early. The thing I like about YAS the most is that it's not intimidating. They seem to welcome everyone and encourage everyone to just do their best. It's the first time I've actually been able to get my boyfriend into yoga on a regular basis. The space is clean and modern, the teachers are amazing. I just wish it wasn't so popular!!!!
Pros: Great classes in a cool location
Cons: Always packed

The Only Place I Work Out At
by ohnri
There are only two things I do in life...work and work out. And I only work out at YAS. The spin classes are a great way to stay motivated-they are never boring. While I love Sherri's class the best, all of the instructors are fantastic and offer a wide range of vibes. The yoga is a great class to do after the spinning. I did spinning and yoga with both of my pregnancies and was back in my pre-pregnancy pants within 2 weeks!
Pros: Great Instructors, Fun Atmosphere, Wonderful Place to Meet Other People Interested in Keeping Fit

Put Your Body in Balance + Great for Athletes!
by lizoakes
Hip and relaxed Venice dynamic. I'm not a Yogie, so previously I felt a bit intimidated by yoga studios. I'm a triathlete with little flexibility. The "Yoga for Athletes" classes at YAS are right up my alley. Always challenging, while built for accessibility for the "average joe" or, in my case, the inflexible, I now feel empowered in my own practice. And, with the winter months here, I LOVE being able to pair a spin with a yoga session creating a great double whammy workout. The instructors are welcoming and so are the patrons.
Pros: welcoming staff, helpful instructors, hip atmosphere
Cons: no parking

Fastest work out on the westside.
by woffordenterprises
My husband and I are dedicated YAS fans. YAS provides the fastest, most intense, work out on the west side. The spinning classes offer a solid 45 minute work out accompanied by great music. All you need to do is sit and spin. For once it is terrific to sit and follow instructions knowing the end result is a fit , healthy body. After a great spin ,the Yoga For Athletes class allows you to have a great stretch. No need to go to the gym and lift weights when you can attend a YFA class. If time does not permit, grab the YFA DVD and carry it in your briefcase for business trips and vacactions. We traveled with the DVD and kept in shape on the road. Check it out and make it a New Years Resolution.
Pros: Convenient, Open 7 days, Many classes available

YAS Rocks!!!
by surf74
Always get a reat workout from both yoga and spinning. The instructors are knowledgable and outgoing.
Yoga for Athletes has increased my flexibility, strength and performance in all the other sports I participate.
I would rather be on my road bike but when the weather & the lack of time works against me I know I can jump into one of their many spin classes and get in a really grueling workout.
Pros: Great Atmosphere, helpful instructors and classes all day long.

every class exactly the same, work different muscles YAS!
by westcoast10
Are you people serious? I have found that westsiders consider YAS pretty much a joke. Convenience is the only reason any of my friends attend. Mandy and Tasha are the only instructors I will go to now (they must realize this place is a joke), I bought too many classes and need to use them up. Why do all the others follow one routine for every single class, plus they don't even concentrate on form in ANY WAY, which should be a part of any class. There is no excitement since you know after third position, you will sprint (and not even in bursts). As for Yoga, there is absolutely no form critique or breath technique taught, which makes yoga especially useful to athletes. I was hoping that was an emphasis since it is called YFA. You plateau after 6 months. This is NOT the way to train. This place is not recommended if you want to learn proper form for spinning and especially get all the benefits of yoga. Don't you guys think they should mix it up?
Pros: Friendly members, convenient, Mandy and Tasha
Cons: terrible form and breath instruction, no variety, too easy

Best spin and yoga studio on the westside
by dknycs
I'm not sure why westcoast10 would go there having such strong things to say about YAS and Kim Fowler. I certainly wouldn't waste my time going if I didn't love it. I have been a member of YAS for over 3 years and I still look forward to the classes. Sherri's music selection is excellent and for me it is all about the music. Technique should be learned after several classes and every instructor is more then willing to help. What's mundane to me is having an instructor talk too much during class and repeat the same things over and over again. Before every class the instrutor asks if anyone is new, and if they are, the instructor helps them with thier tchnique, always. Usually the class if full of repeat members having a good time and burning calories. Kim's yoga classes are excellent, especially for athletes. The spin class is amazing excercise and easy on the knees! If you want to lose weight doing a 45 minutes spin class and a 1 hour yoga class is the way to go. There is no competition, it is not intimidating, it is always fun and you leave YAS sweating and feeling great. I highly recommend it!!!! All the instructors have thier strengths, my personal favorites are Sherri, Mandy, Sonja and Myrna. The class times are convenient and there are plenty of great instructors to choose from!
Pros: Great instructors, comfortable studio, professional yet friendly atmosphere

Great Combination of Yoga & Spinning
by cw2400
I've been training at YAS for over three years and I love it! I've been to other spinning centers and yoga studios but YAS is definitely the best. Great atmosphere and top notch instructors (Sherri Rosen's spinning classes are awesome). After a workout at YAS it seems like it always maximizes my energy level for the rest of the day.
Pros: Ability to train at both Yoga & Spinning in one center.
