Awesome, if a bit gritty. Usually this place gets packed on weekends and has great music spinning for taking advantage of the dance floor. Drinks are nothing special here, it's all about the crowd and the fun vibe.

Last week I went to the Short Stop for the first time and was stoked and surprised to discover good music and a hopping dance floor on a Thursday night. Sick and tired of hearing all that nauseating club music from top 40 radio stations, it was good to hear music aficionados playing rare groove joints and hip-hop that they actually cared about. On top of that, people actually dance here, but it's a mellow vibe. Love the affordable drinks and the divey Echo Park vibe feels very authentic. I'll be going there with all my girlfriends every Thursday to pay homage to DJ O-Dub and Murphy's Law!

Pros: Live DJs; cheap drinks; cute people

Cons: Why can't this be every night of the week?

Experienced the Short Stop for the first time this week. Excellent spot to have an adult beverage prior to a Dodger game. The bar had $2 draft specials and the tamales they were selling were outstanding. Pool tables in the back room add some variety. 90% of the crowd seemed to be going to the game. Nice spot.

Do not go there and give that place any business! I was there this past Saturday and had a HORRIBLE experience. We were there early at 9pm, before the huge crowd had arrived. The bar was EMPTY. The bartender was SO rude and totally unprovoked. HER LACK OF BASIC MANNERS WAS TRULY SHOCKING. She made us feel really awkward, which is not what you want to feel when you are out trying to have fun and spend your hard earned money. I could understand if the bar was packed, a bartender may be rushed and seem rude, but there was no one there! She turned us off so much that we left. With so many people looking for work these days, I can not support a business that employs bratty people with zero social skills.

Great place to go before a Dodger Game! Stadium entrance right down the street. It got crowded quick though, get there early for a bar stool. Service was awesome. Just dont try to move a bar stool from one end to the other.... they dont like that.
We went before a white sox vs. Dodgers game and the place was full with both fans.
Good hang.

This place is at the top of my sh*t list. If you want to wait 15 minutes to order one $8 stella, and then have some USC jock try to f*ck you then look no further. That's all I need to say.

i hear the westsiders are all making their way back on weekends. sounds about right in the cycle. it went from cop bar to slumming it spot for hipsters back to dive bar and now big weekend DJ stuff again. they lost their dancing licence for awhile. drinks are pretty good and it's dark. great on a weeknight when it's low key.

This dark atmospheric joint has long since shed its cop bar, Rampart Scandal trappings and become a well-known Eastside hipster hang. Come for Happy Hour and enjoy the staple buck and a half PBRs or step up to a flawlessly mixed appletini or a small-barrel bourbon ? the tenders are quite talented when it comes to mixing the perfect libation. If Terel (the manager) is behind the bar, ask politely for a ?perfect? Manhattan with Sazerac Rye ? you won?t regret it.

Weekends see a different crowd, with shiny-shirted Westsiders slumming in the still somewhat seedy neighborhood. They?re here for the beats, spun by an increasingly high-end lineup of DJs. Lines form by tenish, so make nice with one of the enormous bouncers or stumble one block west to The Little Joy Cocktail lounge, a sleazy-fun locale with battered pool tables, booths patched with duct tape and cheap drinks served in plastic cups. Think of it as a cross between a meth lab and your white trash buddy?s basement.

The short stop is a great place to chill on week nights. Come Friday, it gets a little crazy. If you are not a fan of lines or crowds, stick to week nights. Nice cavernous atmosphere and strong drinks. Especially love the photo booth and pool table. Nice bartenders and good dance room with decent jams for shakin' it.

I started hanging out at the Short Stop about a year ago and have always had a good time. It's been getting a bit crowded lately though - especially on Friday and Saturday nights. I hope this place isn't going south.
I've alwasy found the bartenders to be very friendly, fast and very easy on the eyes. It can take a while to get drinks when it's packed, but at least they let you know it's going to be a few minutes.
The Jukebox is great.

There was a pretty long line getting in, probably because my friends and I went on a Saturday night, which is Hip Hop Night. THen it took even longer to order a drink at the bar (the space was really crowded)... There was a whole separate room for the dance floor which was cool. My friends told me it was a pretty "hipster" joint, but I didn't get that vibe (but then again it was Hip Hop Night).

I HAVE WORKED THE SPECTRUM OF RESTAURANT/BAR ESTABLISHMENTS AND NEVER SEEN BARTENDERS SO RUDE AND INCAPABLE OF HANDLING VOLUME WITH COMPOSURE AND COURTESY.
HAVING WORKED FOR PLANET HOLLYWOOD, SPAGO, T.G.I.FRIDAYS, HOUSE OF BLUES, ETC.,
THE BARTENDERS AT SHORTSTOP (WHICH IS THE ONLY SOURCE OF RETRIEVING ALCOHOL SERVICE, AS THERE ARE NO COCKTAIL WAITRESSES) ARE RUDE, SLOW, INCOMPETENT AND SIMPLY OVERWHELMED.
I PERSONALLY AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS RIDICULOUS CONCEPT THAT FEMALE BARTENDERS BRING IN MORE BUSINESS, IT'S COMPLETELY ABSURD.
THESE GIRLS AT SHORTSTOP ARE TIMID, EMOTIONAL AND RUDE, WHICH TURNS MEN OFF...
GUESS WHAT?!!!!
WHEN THE MEN LEAVE,
THE REVENUE LEAVES.
THEN YOU ARE LEFT WITH LESBIAN BARTENDERS, AND NO INCOME OR PROFIT.
I BEG THE OWNERS OF THIS POTENTIALLY GREAT PLACE TO GET RID OF THE BITCHY, OVERWEIGHT, ANGRY FEMALE BARTENDERS THERE AND GET A REAL CREW.
TRUST THAT THE PRICES ARE RIGHT, THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT, THE MUSIC ROCKS, BUT THE SERVICE IS BAD!!!!

This was the first bar I found when I moved to LA. See the picture of the bar, there at the top? That's how it used to be. I never thought that a bar could go sour so quickly but that seems to be what happened - no longer a great place to drink and enjoy being around people, it's now more like a giant bus full to busting with jerks and OC fodder. They should change the photo to show the back of a person's head, because that's all you'll ever see when you're in this place. Or a bartender ignoring you. Or a late-to-the-scene hipster gent in a camp t-shirt, shouting into a cellphone. Just no women, want to keep it as realistic as possible.

I've been going to the Short Stop for a while now. I live up the street. Its no longer a place I want to go back to. Its way too crowded, the crowd itself has become lame, and the bartenders are consistently rude, even to regulars.

What can I say, its time came and went and I really wish the crowd would go back to the alley in Hollywood where they came from.

this bar has the lamest service ever. Not only does it take the whole night to get a drink. It is a common practice and it seems to be incouraged by the management for the bartenders to call out and publically humilate people who do not tip them enough. Honestly if your a wack bartender dont expect a good tip. I work hard everyday to be able to go out and spend a rediculous amount of money on drinks and consider myself to be a really good tiper. But if the service is wack and on top of that people try to call you out when you complain about it the overall place is lame. This bar is on its study decline. Chop it up to horrible customer service.....Dont go here. Trust me

this bar USED to be cool back before you had to wait 30 minutes outside in line or pay the door guy $20 to get in. or when you could actually get a drink without fighting through a dense crowd and then waiting 15 minutes at the bar. basically, it's still the same rad place with rad music and atmosphere it's just TOO CROWDED. there goes my favorite neighborhood bar.

I've been coming to the Short Stop every friday night for a while now and it's my favorite place in this hood. There is a kickass DJ there on Fridays...one of the best I've ever danced too...and I spend the whole night shakin it to great random music and old favorites. The line may be long to get drinks...but who cares when they are 5 bucks! There is always fun, interesting people here and it's always a great time.

This is probably the best bar in LA to become a regular at. The bartenders may take a while to get to you if youre new here, but after a couple visits you'll get great service.
The short stop is also usually filled with a decent crowd, sometimes becoming really crowded, in which case the little joy is always next door.
Cheap drinks and a good mix of mid 20s people. The photo booth is a big draw for girls, and the PBR on tap is for the fellas.
If I go somewhere disappointing early on in the night I usually end up here and have a great time.

The place had to ban dancing a long while back, but dancing is back!
So come out out and shake your butt off!
Drink are reasonabley priced, but the line to get a drink is kinda ridiculous.
Good envirnoment, younger crowd, good music selection.
Jukebox on the premises so if you dont like the songs the DJ is playing then play something for yourself.
Smoking patio in the rear of the bar.
One pool table and some video games in the back room as well as a photo booth which is very popular.
Street parking only, the lot is for the employees apparently.
Saturday is popular so you may have to wait in line for 15 minutes if you show up past 11.

I really used to like this place when there was a pool table and dancing. I danced one night to totally random B-52s songs, but then they lost their daning permit and the pool table mysteriously vanished. It's still a good place for a stiff drink without the hassle of a doorman, etc. There's plenty of places to sit, like the many tables that cover the old dance floor, the bar, and a tiny alley-like patio where people go to smoke.

Although finding parking is a bit tough, this is a cool place to hang-out. For all you Dodgers fan, you can't beat the $1 beers (must show Dodgers ticket) before and after you go to the game.

this place used to be my favorite bar, but now without the DJ this place is just not fun. the service is still great and the martini's are fabulous!! i wish they would bring back the dancing!! they seem to have lost a lot of patrons due to not having the DJ's anymore.

This is definitely "Swingers" worthy in the sense that it is difficult to find. Remember Mikey said, "For some reason all the cool bars in LA are hard to find." Yeah. Keep your eyes peeled as you make your way into Silverlake looking for this place, but once you get in, it is definitely off the hook!

We remember the days before Short Stop had a dance floor! Actually, the place has not succumbed to the horrible influx of bad crowd syndrome completely- though we have seen sightings of fake...uh, body parts and other west side yuckiness...One improvement could be made in the area of DJ's- less same old, same old 70's crap and more old school, pulsing, fast, intense DANCE music. But with parking and pool tables, we can't complain too much.

Short Stop is one of the all-around best bars in the city. It's got everything going for it, up-and-coming neighborhood location, great jukebox, live music, dancefloor, pool table, strong drinks that are not overpriced and a really mixed crowd.

The only downside is the parking. It can be really tricky to find a space, and you'll have a bit of a trek from your car to the front door.
