i have been going to norman's since 1998 and it is really the best gym around. another reviewer has said he thinks it is too small, but he is obviously confusing norman's with another club called next level fitness, which that person also reviewed.
norman's is quite large and spacious with very high ceilings, and never crowded. there are large windows which pour in natural light from the mezzanine level around the main floor. honestly norman's is over ten times the size of next level. also norman's does not have the pool which tim says is "too small." i suspect if you reverse "tim t's" reviews you will have a more accurate picture of both clubs.
norman's has been in the same location since 1946. the atmosphere there is a combination of friendly-family and oldschool-kickass. there is a HUGE amount of freeweights and many cool, extremely well built machines which were designed by norman and his mentor, jack lalanne.
norman himself is a competitive bodybuilder who won some big titles back in the 1940's and 50's. he is a great guy and he knows an awful lot about lifting and about life. he can be found at the front desk or in the weight room most weekdays. his daughters wendi and rhonda are usually there too. as well as being very charming and helpful, all three of them are incredibly fit and healthy looking. they practice what they preach and the results are right there in front of you.
there is also a serious therapeutic element to norman's, both he and wendi are chiropracters, there is a massage therapist there, and the locker rooms have saunas, jacuzis and steam rooms.
norman's is cheaper than most gyms, a day pass is 9 or 10 dollars or you can pay monthly, yearly, whatever, no nonsense about contracts or initial membership fees.
