I've been going to John Velasquez for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. It is a warm and comfortable setting with lovely people and they are all really proficient with anything having to do with hair. John is an extraordinary colorist; his highlighting is so good that many of my friends have no idea that this isn't the natural color of my hair. My daughters use John's as the standard for all good salons, and when they visit SF they routinely try to fit in an appointment. Great people, great service, great outcome!

John is great and the salon is wonderful. John cut my hair in San Francisco for several years until I moved to San Diego and haven't found a decent haircut yet. So, I am coming to San Francisco for John to cut my hair and repair the job done to me in Southern California...

I would say he is the best

They think they're profesionals but they're not. I wanted to bleach my hair blonde and have it look like a medium golden blonde color. The first time I went Lauran did my hair and she made it brown. I could not believe how far off she was! It took her 4 times to get it to the color I wanted. It went from brown to red to orange to blonde! By the time I was finished 4 hours later, I had an enormous headache and my scalp flaked for days. So the next time I went I had John Velasquez do it himself and for about a year he was doing a great job...then he started taking longer to get it right and started charging a lot more money! In less than 2 years I went from paying $120 for bleach and toner to $212, not to mention the tip! That's outrageous! The last 2 times I went I spent about 4-5 hours in there and left with a headache and less than perfect results. Then they get annoyed when you want them to try again. If they knew what to do in the first place, there would be no problem. It's not like I'm not paying for it and I tipped them very well too! As people they are extremely nice and friendly but as styilists, they are not worth the trouble or the money.

Pros: Everyone is very nice and friendly.

Cons: Super expensive, not the most competent stylists.

John Velasquez Hair Styling is an upscale, elegant salon conveniently located close to the Financial District. The stylists here are all very talented and accommodating, especially John Velasquez himself. He is a charming and affable man and a great stylist and colorist. I wanted to lighten my hair up a few shades, and I feared that colorists would interpret ?a few shades? as a ?dramatic change,? but he did it perfectly.

PROS: Talented hairstylist, classy atmosphere
CONS: None
