Dr. Black is extremely friendly, genuinely cares for your animal and gives excellent service. My kitten was extremely sick he took my cat in right away. My kitten had to stay over night because he still wasn't doing well. Dr. Black called me around 9 pm with excellent news that he was doing much better and was back to his perky self. This was such a relief and gave me a stress free night sleep. I don't know many doctors who would personally call you to update you. This place is more expensive then most but you get what you pay for!! Dr. Black and his staff genuinely care about you and your animal!

In April 2010, my lab (Duke) was in distress. I rushed him to emergency pet hospital in Tustin on Sunday 5:00 am. He was diagnosed with cancer of the spleen, heart and liver. Surgery was not recommended. I was asked to leave him there so they could put in down. I had them remove the IV and I brought him home and shared the news with my husband. I scheduled a visit with Dr. Black and also sought a third opinon from a Vet family friend from Nevada. Dr. Black reran all the diagnostic testing per my request and he examined Duke. It was his opininon that Duke simply needed to have his spleen removed and there was no sign of cancer. Also, the family Vet also concurred based on the original diagnostic films and his experience. With that, Dr. Black performed surgery and SAVED Duke's life. There was no cancer and he is here today. Duke is 11 years old and he had that surgery in April of this year. Dr. Black is an amazing man and Doctor. Duke is not afraid of the good Doctor and that is key! The stafff at Dr. Black's office are super!

We have been clients for 10 years. We have had nothing but good experiences with Dr Black. We adopt seniors that no one will take and have spent a small fortune over the years. Yes, we feel sometimes charges are high but our dogs receive the best of care and that is what is most important. Like most things in life you get what you pay for. Over the years he has prolonged and saved the life of some of our pets. Sure some routine things shots spade/neuter could be had for less elsewhere but when our pet is sick he takes the time to explain things to us and run some tests that may seem exsessive at the time but the end result is usually finding the problem and healing our pets....I can't put a dollar value on that. Nothing is better than seeing one of our pets rebound from deaths door. I like the fact that he gives us options near the end when it come to quality of life issues and is frank with us when it is time to make the hard decisions.

We have known Dr. Black for years. He has treated many of our animals. We have interacted with many vets over the years too as we are animal lovers. Dr. Black is our number one vet.In reality, Dr. Black NEVER overcharges. He is simply just extremely thorough with the level of care he provides. The prices he charges are comparable to other vets in the area. The reason why people might think it is expensive is because he will actually run tests to find out what's wrong and not just guess and put animals on medications WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. Over the years I have learned that the best way to go when it comes to health, is to be thorough. And yes, that does cost money. But as with anything else, you get what you pay for. With Dr. Black, you will get excellent quality care for your pet. And while he might be strict with his staff, his place is immaculate. You could eat off of those floors. In my opinion, I would rather go to a doctor's office that is exceedingly clean and where the doctor is strict with his staff, then to an office where things are ran poorly and where there is no discipline. You could walk to the back of his hospital any day and find it impecably organized and clean. Have you ever been to the back of those vet hospitals that charge you pennies? Have you ever been able to even visit the back of those vet offices without them giving prior notice to the staff in the back that someone is coming back there? Think about it. If you are truly concerned about what is in the best interest for your pet, then you should consider Dr. Black as your veterinarian.

I came in to make an appointment to see Dr. Black, and while I was there, he was very rude and obnoxious to one of his employees. It could be heard from the front. While he doesn't seem to have much compassion for his employees, I would therefore NEVER bring my animal to his office with the way he seems to act to humans. Maybe he should reconsider his profession and go to anger management instead.

Agree with most of the others here: Good quality, but lots of seemingly unnecessary work done and very high prices (like 4 times the cost of the other clinic I found).

Although I have found Dr. Black to be caring towards my animals, I feel like it's a business first. You know what I mean ... the priority should be the other way around. It seems that there are too many tests and too many shots. I have had to spend hundreds of dollars and they have only been routine issues. It makes me question whether this is the right place for us. The atmosphere is comfortable and the staff has always been so nice but I have also noticed the staff is different every time I go there.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Black for a long time. I have at times encountered charges that were hard to swallow, but they were always in the best interest of my pets and always known upfront. Owning a pet is expensive. I have had the smarts to take out insurance on my dogs, insurance that Dr. Black recommended to help me afford the charges. I have known many vets in my life. Dr. Black is the first vet I have truly trusted. He has always taken the time to explain to me what was going on and give me the option of how I wanted my animals treated. His office has always called me to confirm any increase over my approved amount. Dr. Black has called me to ensure I was on board and aware of the risk/reward of any treatment. He has never charged me for any unauthorized services. I am sorry to those that have had bad experiences with this office. I have a rare breed dog that requires special attention. Attention that has been expertly provided by Dr. Black and his staff.

I brought my dog in for a bath and blood test. when i picked her up the charge was close to $400 for unauthorized services including a medication that was detrimental to other existing conditions. when i addressed this with dr. black he just said he couldn't provide medication without the tests however i never asked for medication i just wanted to check her blood levels. needless to say he did not refund one penny

I had to weigh in on this because we took our dog to Dr. Black for several years. I felt that he put our dog's health first, and that's a plus. But my husband was out of work for almost a year during that time and even though I explained that to the vet, he still did procedures and tests and things that I did not agree to when I brought our dog in for her vaccinations. I wanted to protect her health but I needed to do the minimum because truly, it was all I could afford at the time. I never got out of there for ANY reason for under $300. I finally wrote a letter saying that I was notifying him that I would not pay for anything he did that I did not agree to in writing. He didn't even offer a payment plan for the services I didn't approve...he just said "OK, we did this, this, this and this and that will be $500 here and now. I about had a heart attack a couple of times...and she was never even seriously ill in all of those years. I have heard many, many stories from friends about this same overtreating/overcharging thing, since we all live in this area. I simply don't trust him to balance the owner's concerns with the issue the pet is having. We needed someone to be on our side and work with us to care for our pet in the best but the most affordable way, and we ended up leaving to find a vet who does just that.

That lady must be crazy... He would never hurt an animal. EVER. I have been taking my 3 dogs there for a couple years now and they have done nothing but love our dogs and do everything they can to help when they are sick. They have also been boarded there several times and they are great. Im sorry lady but obviously your poor dog was sick. Im sorry you lost him, I also recently lost my 1st dog. I know how it feels, but maybe it was just his time... Im sorry for your loss but dont blame Dr. Black he loves animals.

This vet and his staff were responsible for the death of our dog due to their neglect. Our dog had been boarded there and over a period of time, and over three days his chart showed his failing health which was never noted by the staff or the vet. He died all alone, unnecessarily. We had to sue, and yes we won, to get any closure on this horrible experience, and the truth is that there is never closure on something like this. We trusted this man with our family member and he let us down never apologized, and basically showed no remorse for his actions/inaction.

the reason the employess are always different is because he is extremely verbally abusive to his staff. causing stress anger and more. he kicked a dog hard while i was there. he curses often and loud, calls his employees names, and threatens them verbally. and people there are still vets out there that do not charge$350 to $400 to spay or neuter a cat or dog.
