This salon has a great atmosphere and good energy. The sylists are "categorized" so you know whether you are seeing a novice or experienced stylist. The products used are top notch.
The down side, as mentioned, is parking. It is difficult to find and when you do find one there is a two hour limit. So, if you're getting color, condidtion and cut, you may have to go out to your car before you're done!!

Decent cuts--great bargain with trainees

I have had my hair cut here a few times and they always do a good job. There is a discount if a stylist trainee (apprentice) does the cut; makes the cost very reasonable.

Won't go anywhere else, Angela's the BEST! :)
by Volupia
OK, so I've been looking for a new stylist for YEARS... I had been going to one person, but she was much older, not up on the latest hair trends, styles, or product, and quite prickly, to say the least. Basically, I wasn't getting the service, consideration, or product I or my hair needed.
I then sought to find a new stylist, and decided to find someone who was as a perfectionist as I am. What better person than the Bridal Coordinator and Intermediate Stylist at Vine Street? Anyone who's a Bridal Coordinator knows how to work with women who are very particular and exacting...
When I walked in, I knew I was at the right place. I was greeted warmly, I was offered a glass of water or tea as Angela was running just a little behind (understandably so at the end of the day).... bottom line, I was made to feel like a valued client, and was made to feel comfortable.
When I started talking with Angela regarding what I wanted, I could tell that she knew her stuff. She proceeded to inspect my hair, and I told her about how unhappy I was with my present cut, how uneven and choppy it was (the previous woman had butchered me!), and how stringy that made my hair look. We determined that to get the style I wanted, it would take a few months of growing and cutting... which was fine with me.
After Angela carefully cut and styled my hair (and hooked me up with new product more appropriate for my hair type), she let me see and I swear, I actually started crying with joy and relief... FINALLY my hair looked the way I wanted it to, it swung the way I should, it lay the way it should ... I just feel so beautiful now when I do my hair in the morning.
The entire staff at Vine Street are very courteous and positive people. and goodness, do they know hair! I have found my permanent stylist, I REFUSE to let anyone else TOUCH my hair!!!! Thank you, Angela!!!!
Pros: Great vibe, great product, great people
Cons: Hard to find parking in that neighborhood

To clear up Ed's (emurph) review
by RobinK
I am Robin, the desk manager at Vine Street Salon. I must respond to the review posted by a client who was in the salon this week to clear up his incorrect version of the incident.
Firstly---even if you don't read the details of the incident (below) you should know that we had to CALL THE POLICE on this individual! And, though we called them right after he left, we were unable to recover the $20 that was owed since by the time the Police arrived Ed was long gone.
This client, Ed Murphy, who clearly misunderstood much of what I told him, created his own reality and ultimately, due to his reinterpretation of what I told him, threw down $75 cash for his $95 total for the two services he received and left!
Regarding the specific details:
We do have a special running this month with two of our newer stylists--Free HC when booked with a Color service and must purchase shampoo + conditioner.
I told him this offer is available with Ashley (Novice) & Brianna (Intermediate) only. He wanted to know how much that would end up costing all together. I explained that the color service that he described would be between $55-65 if he booked the service with a Novice (the price for a single process tint actually starts at $65 with a novice, but, I told him that the price could be adjusted if, for example, he had very short hair or we only colored his temples).
We spoke on the phone a couple of times before he called back to see if he could get in that day. I told him that I could get him in, but with Melissa (Novice) who was not offering the special we'd discussed earlier. I told him her hair cuts cost $35 and the color would be the $55-65 price we'd discussed.
Since he was late for his appointment, Melissa only had time to cut his hair, but one of our Advanced colorists (Angela) was willing to do his color for the Novice color price! So, we actually "baited" him with a Novice hair stylist and switched him to an Advanced colorist for the Novice color price!
I have no idea why Ed got it into his head that he was getting the Free Hair cut special that day. I told him in no uncertain terms that the stylists who are offering the special were not on the floor taking clients that day!
Furthermore, even if he had come in to see one of them, the price would have been significantly more than $55 for both color and cut since with that special he would be obligated to purchase shampoo & conditioner with which to protect his color, salon shampoo/conditioner averages $15 each.
In closing, "No Ed, we don't charge extra for smiles, etc. We are just genuinely nice people and it is very sad that you turned your misunderstanding (or reinterpretation) of our pricing into a very negative experience for all."
Pros: Relaxed space, nice & talented people
Cons: Parking

Beware of Vine Street Salon
by emurph
Similar to the bait and switch tactic employed by shady car dealers, Vine Street Salon lured me in by promising one price only to jack that price up later.
As a guy with short hair looking for a haircut and color for gray coverage, I called Vine Street and spoke with Robin who offered me a reasonable quote for said services. Hence, I was taken aback when Robin later informed me that my bill was about 50% higher than what she had quoted. After I pointed that out, she told me with a straight face that her quote was for one service. Incredibly, she even stated that the inflated fee was justified because she had spent time with me on the phone. I wonder if she also charges customers extra to smile, say hello or get them a glass of water?
As it turns out, Vine Street Salon has a history of questionable billing/collection practices. In my view, this salon is unethical and shameless.
Pros: Feels nice to get out of this place
Cons: Low Ethical Standards

What a great Salon
by FloppyC
I have recently returned to Vine Street because my favorite stylist has returned. Angela is great! She knows exactly what will compliment me. I totally trust her with color and cut. Angela always styles my hair so the color looks natural and the cut is easy for me to maintain and style myself. I have very unruly hair she recommends the best products for my hair. She also makes me feel comfortable and is easy to speak with. Vine Street Salon is upscale, flexible with appointments, clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Pros: Their staff are color experts.
Cons: Only street parking

great referral
by roe55
I was referred to Vine st. salon through a friend to see Angela. I have had bad experiences in the past of other salons,so I was nervous. When I got there everyone was so accomadating and Angela was very sweet at making me feel right at home. The consultaion was great cause she listened to me and let me know everything she was going to do. I have never had a stylist be so detailed. It was great!!! I loved the haircut so much and I am going back for some color(which we talked about and I loved her ideas). Angela is very talented and she is quite funny.....Major kuddos for Angela and the salon!!!! I highly recommend Angela and her creativity.
Pros: Great location and stylist
Cons: parking

CLIENT 4 YEARS
by pallex
Just want to say that I have been a client of Vine St. Salon for many years. I have had my hair cut and colored by almost all the stylists and have no complaints. Now that Angela is back I see her regularly as she is the most talented stylist I've ever had. She is great with color, an instructor to others and an expert in the field. I love her cuts because she's an artist and isn't afraid to be creative. I tell my friends to go to her and they do and they're as happy as I am. I feel like I get a very high class LA or NY service right at home in Berkeley. Now if only I could learn to hold still.... ; )
Pros: Music is stress free, lighting is perfect, staff is wonderful
Cons: parking is just horrible in the neighborhood

Definitely found my new place
by shinbb
I am so incredibly pleased with my haircut. I have gone to several different hair salons, but with no luck finding an individual who would cut the way I want, or even close for that matter. I was so impressed with the way Winnie had cut my hair. She truly cares about what her clients want. Definitely found my new place. Great value for price.
Pros: Stylist is talented, professional, and nice!
Cons: Almost impossible to find parking. Remember to bring change for meter.

Glad to be back with Angela!!!!
by zoes02
I moved back into the area after being gone for a year. I went back to Angela and thank goodness she had an opening and was still there. My hair needed a lot of work and was in bad shape. Not only did she do a great color and cut, but she brought my hair back to life. Wow does Angela know her products....she recommended great products and I saw a big difference...That cheap market store products are for the birds!! I loved the Aveda and how my hair grew out was just great. I am happy to be back and to be back with Angela.. I would recommend her to anyone. Vine St. rocks!!!!
Pros: Angela
Cons: Parking and you have to bring cash for gratuity

Love this Place!
by bonitaapplebottom
I have been a client at this salon for two years. I've been here on hectic Saturdays and quiet Mondays and I've always had pleasant experiences. The staff here are very friendly and always offer tea whenever I come in. Even on a day lijke today when I was fighting leaving home(it was pouring rain) it was so nice to be there. My stylist always gives me honest advice on my hair. And I love their product selection! Tons of AVEDA. Definitely recommend checking out their modeling program too. :)
Pros: Smiling faces
Cons: parking, takes 15 min on bad days

Glad to be back!
by winwiz
It's been a while, but, being back in town and able to visit my favorite salon felt great. I have been traveling a lot this year and one thing I can count on is Vine Street Salon to be there when I need a pick me up. My stylist is always there to greet me and gave me a terrific cut and while she was running a bit late due to a scheduling conflict, I was out on time and on my way! I know that last minute is not always best for a busy salon, but, they always find time for me.
Pros: Same day appointments possible.
Cons: parking is always a challenge

Uncomfortable
by citysearch08
I made my appointment over the phone and the woman I spoke with was very friendly. When I came in for my appointment, my hairstylist and the receptionists were also very friendly. My hairstylist made a great effort for me to have a pleasant experience; however, during 20 minutes of my hour, the manager was angry at the receptionist and lecturing her, which not only did I find to be extremely unprofessional- it was downright uncomfortable. When I get my hair done it is a special occasion for me, and I like to enjoy it and not feel stressed about the person who is getting in trouble 10 feet away from me. My advice for the manager/owner: If you're going to reprimand your employee, do it in private. None of your customers care to hear about it, and I'm sure your employee will appreciate not being embarrassed in front of the entire salon.
Pros: quaint salon, friendly stylist & receptionist
Cons: unprofessional manager

Remember to bring some "cash" to tip your stylist
by JJbabie
I love my hair after I visit Vine Street Salon...
I use to have really dry, long and thick hair the main problem that I have at home everyday is how to style my hair is a good way but never work so I don't like my hair at all... so my friend recommended me to this salon to see Winnie Fong and she did a really GOOD job I like her a lot
I guess she is not just a stylist because she even teach me how to style my hair in a easy way but still looks amazing... She even tell me everything step by step
Winnie cutted my hair to shoulder length with some layer around my face and thin out a lot of my thick hair, this made my face more slim and it look so smooth I never see my hair looks like that ( If you have thick hair remember to ask for the thinning shear)
A lot of my friends and even people I don't know like my haircut
I don't know I can't put the tips on my credit card but luckily ATM is around the block so if you are going to visit the salon remember to bring CASH to tip your stylist =)
Pros: Nice, Friendly and Talented stylist
Cons: Parking

upscale but reasonable
by crazybunch01
I have recently moved from Sacramento to Berkeley and I have spent at least a month trying to find a salon that meets my expectation. I have been to several salon on Ashby but I wasn't too happy with the result. A few days later I was talking to a friend of mine who told me about Vine St Salon and I decided to give it a try. Beside the great stylist that they have (she said she was an intermediate stylist, but she did a GREAT job), there are a wide ranges of product that I can choose from, very upscale, nice/clean environment. Even though finding a parking is quite a hassle, it is well worth the time and money. I would highly recommend Vine St. Salon and I can't wait to get my highlight done next week.
Cheers

Unappealing Decor and Below Par Talent
by Sweetpea86
I'd like to premise this review by mentioning that I have never been unhappy with a haircut, even in third world countries.
Frankly...my entire experience at Vine Street Salon was, at best, regrettable. I arrived at the salon right at the time of my appointment but parking was so difficult, I ended up spending ten minutes looking for it and then five more minutes walking to the salon. I walked in to find my stylist, Winnie, waiting for me but saying we wouldn't have time to cut my hair in the 45 minutes left. Once she sat me down, however, she found that my hair was already washed and so we began. I told her about the nature of my hair and that she had artistic license to do what she saw fit, which I always do because I figure that as an experienced stylist she would know what would best work for me. She trimmed my hair and then dried it without a brush leaving it very frizzy and she kept criticizing my hair. I tried to give a little direction when I saw that she was confused but she quickly rejected everything I said. I walked out not really knowing what the cut looked like because my hair looked so frizzy, when I got home and styled my own hair only to find that it was uneven. The receptionist realized that I was unhappy when I said I would never come back but did nothing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON.
Cons: Parking

Long Time Client
by marsana
We have followed Angela for the past 10+ years - she started out cutting my husband's hair - back than I went to who ever was avaiable - and decided to try Angela out - I continued because my husband continued to go to her - happy with each haircut - it wasn't until I wanted to experiment with color that I realized Angela did a excellent job. I also didn't realize how much I relied on her input, suggestions, skills and expertise when she decided to move to LA. I learned the difference while having to find another stylist where most of his clients had all the same color and look. Recently, Angela cut my hair from mid back to my shoulders - since this newest haircut I've had so many compliments!! Thank you Angela for your suggestion - although I was a bit hesitant with going that short - I love my new hair style. You will not go wrong when selecting Angela as your hair stylist for a special event or change in hair or make up look - she will make sure whatever you choose is combined with her expertise! Thanks Angela!!!
Pros: Love the location - Berkeley - and the salon is clean, staff friendly and attentive.
Cons: Parking

A clean well-lighted place...with great stylist(s)!
by drkaren411
Historically, I'm a cheapskate when it comes to my hair. And when I had a So-Low-Maintenance-It's-Just-Boring hairstyle, that was just fine. But one day I strolled out of Peet's, my brain addled with too much coffee, and on a whim I went upstairs to Vine Street Salon. "Cut it! Make it interesting! I don't care what you do, or what it costs!" I said. Fate put me with Angela, who thoughtfully listened to my rant, worked some mysterious magic with her scissors, and sent me out the door with an artful, stylish, layered look that was still low-maintenance -- but also absolutely fabulous! (And it wasn't even that expensive.) After more than FIFTY-TWO people complimented me on my new haircut, I decided I'd found something good. Angela knows how to cut hair REALLY WELL. Period. She's clearly got an eye for what looks good on a client, and she's cheerful, friendly and attentive to boot. I highly recommend her!
In all fairness to the rest of the stylists, they must be good as well, since I've watched clients of all different ages and hair types walk out of Vine Street Salon looking great. And the salon itself has good feng shui, or karma, or something -- it's full of light, and somehow manages to be both calming and bustling at the same time. And they carry Aveda products, which are largely environmentally-responsible and natural...like health food for your hair! Finally, I love how the salon has laundered wrap shirts that you can wear to avoid getting hair all over your street clothes...it's a nice, spa-like touch.
In sum: Go to Vine Street Salon! And go to Angela!
Pros: Talented stylists; Aveda products; vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere
Cons: Parking - though if you don't mind parking a few blocks away and walking, it's no big deal

Loyal Customer
by mary2525
I have been going to Angela for at least 10 years. When she left for L.A. I was so bummed because she is the only person who can deal with my thin, curly hair. I explain what style and color I want and she's always on the money. She consults with me when I want a change and always is so concerned changing my look for fear of not being a satisfied customer. We're like old friends and her "bedside manner" is always great. She is so upbeat and positive. I would not only recommend Angela, but Vine Street Salon as a whole. They are very professional and friendly.
Pros: professional and friendly
Cons: Parking and stairs

Fantastic Stylist -- highly recommended
by spicywend55
I have been a customer of the stylist Angela for years -- I was referred to her when she was working in LA, and I have yet to find a another stylist/colorist who does as good a job. Firstt of all, let me preface this by saying that I am an extremely difficult customer to please. Especially when it comes to my hair. I like my blonde to be a warm golden shade with soft, gentle, lighter blonde and chunky highlights. For some reason, most stylists and colorists cannot seem to get this color and style exactly the way I want it. Angela was the only one who could. I went through many, many, MANY stylists before I found her. And I went to some of the best and priciest salons in LA. Also, I have found that her cuts last longer and stay fresh longer than other cuts I received previously. I have since referred Angela to many of my girlfriends and am extremely bummed that she relocated to Berkley. I read the above experience, and must say that I am really surprised, as I have had nothing but fantastic results with Angela. As have my friends who I referred to her.

I had an amazing haircut and color done by a stylist named Angela. She was not only friendly but listened to everything I had to say. With me not knowing how to explain things Angela sure knew what I wanted. I left feeling great and knowing that I now have a great stylist to go back to. Thank you Vine st. salon

Disappointing experience
by amber33
I went to Vine St. based on a recommendation from a friend who is quite happy with her stylist. I was cut and colored by Angela, twice. The first time the cut was ok, not the best but not terrible either. The color was darker than I would have liked but I could cope. I have been having my hair colored for years and sometimes it takes a couple of visits to get it right. The second time was not a good experience for me. I stated several times that I wanted highlights that were subtle. I came away with bright red streaks on my dark brown hair, some streaking quite thick. As well, the color of the highlights ran out in a week, turning a dull dirty blonde color. The cut was atrocious. I wanted soft long bangs cut at an angle. I received very short, ragged bangs that can not be fixed but have to be grown out.
I've read the Business responses to some of the complaints to the salon. For $250, I expect it done right, the way I asked, and there is no second chance at that price. I wouldn't dream of asking for my money back, but I will take my business elsewhere.
Pros: Most of the staff seemed pretty friendly. Receptionist was very nice and helped me fill the meter where I was parked.
Cons: Parking is tough if you'll be there more than an hour or so.

Fantastic service, wonderful atmosphere
by strummermichelle
The staff at Vine Street are fabulous. Ingrid really listened to what I wanted and made suggestions that turned out really awesome. I love my haircut and color! The salon itself had a great atmosphere. With a lovely view on the second floor in North Berkeley, it looked fresh and natural and extremely professional. The best haircut I've had in 4 years in the bay area. I will definitely go back.
Pros: great atmosphere and skilled staff
Cons: definitely on the expensive side, but worth it

Pampering yourself for a great price
by venus_rising
I recently moved to Berkeley and have yet to find a salon or a stylist. I decided to do a search and came upon citysearch's Best 10 list. Vine Street Salon jumped out at me because it was in Berkeley and it came with great deals which as a student, I am always on the lookout for. I made an appointment with Ingrid and the online deal includes a free accent highlight or lowlight with a haircut with the new talent ($38 before tip but price has increased to $45). The salon was clean, bright, and airy. I came armed with photos of a haircut I wanted and Ingrid was great at following it and yet adapting it for my face and hair type. I wanted a layered look but was wary of using the razor which previously left me with split ends. Ingrid assessed my hair type and right away said that a razor was not the right tool. She gave me the messy, separated, layered look I wanted with sheers, and v-cutting instead. She was very friendly, made conversation, and made sure I was comfortable through the whole process. This was the first time that the haircut I envisioned turned out to be the haircut I got. I highly recommened coming to the Vine street Salon.
Pros: Friendly, knowledge stylist, good customer service
Cons: Prices increased right after I went!

I was recommended to a stylist named Ingrid through one of my friends. I have always just bounced around to salons and never really had a bad expirence but never a great expirence. She did an amazing job! I had no clue what I wanted when I walked in and she took the time to talk to me and recommend different ideas of cuts and colors that would completment me but also go along with my lifestyle. I ended up with an amazing cut and color thats hip with out being too over the top. And I enjoyed talking to her the whole time and sharing stories! She is very talented for being so young. I highly recommend Ingrid and this salon!
Pros: Up to date, friendly, a nice atmosphere
Cons: Parking, and couldnt really see with the light at the station

Come in looking hot, walk out looking hotter
by tmd3624
I didnt know what to exppect when going to Vine street, after reading positive and negative reviews about it. I have gone to many different chains of salons before and didnt like the way they did my hair, or how they handled it. My hair is long and thick so I was a bit anxious to see how they'd manage it at Vine Street.
My stylist, Dawn, did a great job, and totally won me over. She took time cutting small sections of my hair (I wanted trims with more layers and side-swept bangs again) and she made sure to be very precise with each step. She also made sure to ask me if I wanted any changes or improvements, and when i requested minor alterations she was sweet about it and did a fantastic job. A bit pricey, but well worth it. I will be coming back for sure.
Pros: customer service, friendly staff
Cons: Parking is a little hard to find - after passing the salon, take a left onto Walnut and you'll find meters

Great Color and a Great Cut
by leobelle725
I found out about V.S. Salon on CitySearch and made an appointment for a color and a cut. I was a little disappointed to learn that the coupon is for an "Accent Highlight" which a quarter of your hair. The other highlight options include approx. half your hair of all of your hair. I decided to do half my hair and still received a 10% discount as a first time client!
The stylist, who has been there 1.5 years, spend a good amount of time with discussing highlight colors and we ultimately choose two colors that compliement my nature hair color. The coloring process took a normal amount of time, but the cut process took a longer than I thought. I didn't like the first cut that the stylist gave me, (I have long hair and wanted to go shorter, she cut ~4 inches off, but I wanted more layers than she initally gave me), but she took the time to cut and layer more and now I am really happy!
I will definitely go in a few months for another cut. (I think I'll wait half a year for another color!)

The Junior Stylists are Better Then Most Senior Stylists in Other Salons!
by aglwatcher
I had the pleasure of, not only getting a terrific online special, but, of meeting a stylist, new to the industry, that can cut and color my hair better then some of the seasoned stylists at other salons. When I saw the special, I knew that Vine Street was an excellent salon. Unfortunately, I am a student and cannot afford the regular prices. Dominique did a great job and I received a haircut for $38 with a free accent highlight worth $45!!!!! The work was beautiful, the staff was friendly and has a great sense of humor. They all seem to work very hard, but, also have fun doing it!
Pros: Friendly, Clean and Great Specials
Cons: PARKING, Give yourself 15mins

Caroline is amazing
by fizzyminky
Caroline is an uber senior stylist and the only person I go to at Vine St so I don't know what the other stylists are like. Another reviewer put it well...she is a technical whiz. I get complimented on my hair daily. The color, or should I say colors, are awesome and she's the only stylist EVER to thin out my super thick hair so it doesn't look like a triangle. It has never been so manageable. Total rocknroll hair but not crazy or bad. It looks expensive and feels expensive. She has a great talent for knowing what style will work with your face, hair type, lifestyle, personality. Other staff there that have been super friendly and helpful are Tania and Dominique.

Not what I expected
by espritfemme
New in area. Found them on internet. Disappointed that people anwering the phone and stylists are not aware of service discounts offered on website. I had to keep mentioning it because it wasn't clear to them. Guy answering the phone doesn't seem to know much at all. He also lacks professionalism. I walked in for the first time, informed him that I had an appointment. He just waves me in the direction of the back and says, "She's back there." I told him that I have never been here before so could he at least show me where the stylist is. He points down the hall to a door. Then as an after-thought he says, "If you want a smock, they are in there." And points out a dressing area and walks back to the counter. So while I am changing into a smock, the stylist comes out, introduces herself, and walks me back to her chair. He needs training on his knowledge and customer service skills.
I was a little concerned about my first impression [both in person and over the phone]. It is just that I am used to beauty salons that make their customers feel "special" when they walk in the door and also throughout their services. I could get a friend to relax my hair at home but I go to a salon for a professional pampering experience. Although, my stylist did a good job relaxing my hair {I love the Phyto products btw], I just felt like my whole experienced was rushed because it was evening and they all had somewhere to go.

Good haircut
by sklo331
I had my long hair cut into much shorter style by Dawn. She seemed to understand thick hair really well and spent a lot of time thinning out the bulk to make sure the new cut looked good. I was really pleased with the end result and would definitely go back.

My stylist is great!
by ddaann
Vine Street Salon has been my salon for years. There are many different stylists and I have found mine. I tried a few others and at times my stylist is booked, but, I always go back! I always get consistant work, no matter how crazy the day because I know my stylist will do a terrific job as always. I highly recommend trying a few stylist's before giving up, there is someone for everyone at Vine Street!
Pros: Friendly, Relaxed, Real
Cons: Parking

Looking for another salon
by cindyzavala1535
I've gone to Vine Street twice. The first time was ok and my hair looked fine (not the best, but no complaints). I didn't get a good vibe from the stylist, but ignored my instinct and went back yesterday...bad idea. The cut itself isn't horrible, but it's not worth $55. Further, the stylist asked me how I usually style my hair- I said blowdry and flat iron. After the cut, she merely ran a dryer through my hair- my hair looked frizzy and it I definitely did NOT look like I had just been in a salon when I walked out of there. I was in shock for a good half hour...I couldn't believe she didn't bother to style my hair.
The stylist made no conversation with me (I know I'm a quiet person, but at least try...) and seemed to not really want me there.
I will not return, even if I were offered a refund. It's not worth my walk up there. I'd rather pay more to go to a friendly stylist that finishes the job.
Pros: Convenient location, clean, nice receptionist
Cons: Unfriendly stylist

best weeding day
by jolynn222
I had my hair and make up done at the vine street salon my appointment was at 8:00 am in the morning and it was hard to find a salon that could accommodate me and my wedding party at that time except vine street. When i got there in the morning the stylist that did my hair was there and ready to go. i came in for a test run a few weeks ahead for my hair and make up and was glad i did. She took pictures so on the morning of the wedding there was no guess work she know what she was doing. everyone looked great. I would highly recommend booking your appointment ahead they seam to get booked fast

Horrible experience
by 12chris
I have never had such a bad overall experience with a hair solon. Laura cut my hair, and after a consultation and about 10 photo examples of what I wanted the cut was nothing like what I had asked for. She did not even finish drying my hair and I left with wet locks that soon dried into a horrible shape. I left town the next day, and since I couldn't go back to get it fixed (and after that experience I really didn't want to) I called and waited almost a week before hearing back. The woman I spoke with was rude and basically told me it was my fault and that she could do nothing for me since I was out of town. She offered to have Laura ( who is apparently a "senior stylist" and the owner) call me, and I have still not heard from her. The cut was very pricy for the east bay, and well below average. I would not reccomend this salon at all. NOt only did I get a bad cut, I was also degraded by a receptionist that should have been trying to help me. There was no apology, offer for a re-cut or even politeness involved.
Pros: location
Cons: late, rude, overpriced

Great Salon
by blh2002
I've been going to Tania for my cut and color for over a year now and I could not imagine going to anyone else. She does fantastic highlights and knows how to tame my super thick and curly / frizzy hair. Just recently she took about 5 inches off my length and I've never gotten more compliments about my hair. Highly recommended!
Pros: Atmosphere, Cleanliness
Cons: Parking

Great Salon
by irishgal4731
I got my haircut by Ingrid, a newer stylist to the industry and she did a wonderful job. She listened to what I wanted which is something hard to find in a stylist now a days. The whole salon atmosphere was great!
Pros: Relaxing, Good Prices, Expirenced Staff
Cons: Parking

Very talented artists, very good value

I had what I imagine was complicated color with a cut. Dawn did a wonderful job. I've been paying much more for lesser results for years. She did a beautiful job and listened well to what I was seeking. My hair also looks and feels much healthier. I couldn't believe how reasonable my bill was. Everyone in the salon was very helpful and friendly. After being around many blocks with my hair - I very highly recommend this salon. Thank You Dawn!
Pros: talent, value, great staff
Cons: parking

I have been going to Vine Street Salon for years to get my hair cut by Michelle. She is a complete professional - patient, careful, and expert in what she does. Based on my own experience, I would highly recommend her and the salon.

Great Hair
by rosymoon
Caroline is my stylist and I found her by asking a couple of fairly random people that I met who did their great looking hair. When the same name came up twice I decided it was time to make the call. Now that I've been, people stop and ask me who does my hair. She is a real technical wizz and is able to create wild styles that function really well and look awesome. She won't go really wild unless she's certain that that's what you want. She has a rock and roll sensibility that makes me confident that I won't leave the salon looking like the suburban mom I am.

Someone for Everyone
by normt
I am on a tight budget and I know that the lesser priced stylists are still learning, BUT, the are better then most and above average. I'm sure that an more experienced stylist might be a bit better, but, you get what you pay for and I am always pleased with the results. I highly reccomend anyone at the salon just be sure you know that a junior stylist means just that!
Pros: Comfortable, Clean, Friendly
Cons: Parking

Average

Average cut. Regular stylist I had wasn't one of the top ones and could not follow instructions and photo I brought in for my short hair cut. She seemed to follow what she wanted. Perhaps the Senior hairstylist is better. I could have gotten this same haircut at a cheaper place.
Pros: Cleanliness, Peets nearby
Cons: Noisy, Value
