We have always enjoyed the excellent treatment given to our fur child Baxter. Being a bull terrier, he loves the attention & treats that he is given and we appreciate the office flexibility on appointments to meet our schedules.
Thanks You Blue Ravine Animal Hospital, for all that YOU do!

DO NOT take your pets here!!!!

I've taken pets to Dr. Sweet for many years and used to have complete trust in her and her staff. Since she moved to the new up-scale building, hired more vets, and had to increase her staff, she is no longer the hands on vet that I use to trust.

They charged us for services that were not performed (our dog visit) (they said they owe us services that we paid for already and then sent us an additional bill) and charged for unnecessary extras (our cat visit). Once shame on us. After the second time, we're taking our pets and our wallets somewhere else.

I'd rather spend my money for the care of my pets and not for the cost of their high rent building.

Response from this business:

We strive to provide the best quality of service. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your comments and would like to provide clarification on some of your concerns. Yes, we've moved to a beautiful new building and increased our hours of operation for our clients' convenience. However, our move has not resulted in an increase of service prices. At your dog's appointment, he was too aggressive for a complete exam. Sedation was recommended for his next visit, at which time we would complete his exam in a safe fashion for all involved. The additional bill to which you refer was for an additional service you requested the following day and was not part of his initial appointment. When your cat was seen, a serious physical abnormality was noted. You were given a written estimate for testing which was recommended to determine the cause and extent of the condition. You signed and payed for these tests. They further revealed a medical condition for which medication was prescribed. No unnecessary tests were recommended and no tests were performed without your consent. We hope that this will help clarify your questions. As always, please feel free to contact us with any concerns.

The staff and vets at Blue Ravine Animal Hospital are all terrific! We were referred to this vet by El Dorado K9 who trained our dogs. We have been taking out 2 dogs their for several years and have had only great caring people to work with and great service. We have large breed dogs and they are very good with them.

Beware of this clinic. I wish I had read the reviews first. My mother took her 8 month old cat in for spay, front declaw, and shots. They told us upon drop off that we could come in the next day and visit her, but not take her home for monitoring purposes. As my mother was working I stopped in to check on her cat the next day, in which I was denied access. This made me very suspicious as I explained I would not disturb or wake her, I just wanted to see her. No compassion or reassurance from the staff what so ever. Upon picking her up the following day we had serious concerns. They had been very hard on her, she had a nick under her left eye, which they said she must have done to herself after surgery. I can't see how that would happen to a cat with full drugs on board and a collar around her neck not letting her access her own face. They clipped her back toe nails completely to the quick - she had dried blood everywhere. She was filthy, completely traumatized and will barely come out of the closet 5 days later. We are working with her very closely and making sure the pain is managed and giving positive reinforcement as she is now very timid and scared. Complete opposite of her personality before going to - lets call it - "the torture clinic."

The staff is extremely rude. I was spoken to like a 8 year old - "your cat may be silly when you take her home from the drugs and fall down and run into stuff." (said in a very patronizing manner) We never met the vet who performed the procedures, apparently they don't talk to their paying customers? None of the staff interacts with the animals - that should have been our first clue to run out the door as fast as possible.

I am pregnant with twins, while paying I must of taken a couple of deep breaths and annoyed the employee. In which she very rudely asked me why I was taking deep breaths. I replied with the obvious, "I'm pregnant and out of breath" - to which she did not respond - this is just the kind of treatment you want after picking up your traumatized animal and writing a check for over $600 dollars.

We unfortunately chose this clinic as we were crunched for time and it was close - my mother's cat paid a very high price. BTW - my mother is a nurse and therefore has better assessment skills than the average person. With that being said - trust your gut, even us non-clinical people know when something isn't right.

There are no "pros" to this clinic only cons. For informational purposes, Dr. Sweet supposedly performed the procedure. Again, this is just what was on the paperwork, we were not given the opportunity to speak with a veterinarian.

Response from this business:

We are truly sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience at our hospital. We try to take all input received and build upon it to provide the best possible quality of care. Since this review, our staff has undergone communications training. While we always strive to provide compassionate care, it can be all too easy to forget that what is routine to us can be frightening for our owners. We know that having a pet in for surgery is a stressful time and we work to make that period as comfortable as possible. Your description of your experience with declawing does not sound at all like our typical experience with the procedure, and, again, I am sorry to hear that it was unsatisfactory. We are aware of the pain and trauma that can be associated with declawing. For that reason our declaws are performed with a surgical laser significantly cutting down on pain, bleeding, swelling, and infection. As always, if you ever have concerns, a veterinarian will be happy to take the time to talk with you. Thank you for providing us with input, so that we can better serve you in the future. It is our top priority to provide you with the best possible customer service and medical care.

What a great staff! They really take the time to be with your animals. I have a guinea pig and a special needs cat (poor little guy was born with one eye). Anyway, they have treated both my animals with love and respect. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I refer them to my family and friends.

Please do not take your pets here! Our Boxer had a beautiful little puppy that became very sick when she was only a few days old. We took her to Blue Ravine & told Dr. Sweet that we didn't think she was doing well. We also brought our female dog along (the mother) in case they wanted to evaluate her & make sure nothing was being passed to her baby. Without running any test they said that the puppy had an infection, wasn't thriving & needed to be tube fed. I told Dr. Sweet we would do whatever we needed to save the puppy & she stated "well within reason;" that should have been my first clue. They gave us antibiotics, gave the puppy a fluid injection & sent us home, without even bothering to look at the mother. The next day things only seemed worse and we went back to the office. While we were sitting in the waiting area a vet tech came out, picked up the puppy & said that the puppy had an infection, was going to die and that we should euthanize her because she wasn't going to make it. She offered to give her more fluids, but again said that the puppy was going to die and we needed to be prepared for that. They never even took us in a room or ran one single test on her or the mother!!! The entire time she spoke to us like we were 5 years old and kept referring to her as "puppy," "puppy's not doing well, puppy's sick;" it was crazy! We were absolutely appalled by the callus and impersonal way they treated us that day and decided to try another vet (American River Animal Hospital). They ran 3 different test on our dog, spent a ton of time with us, sent us home with fluids, medication & instructions & I am happy to say our puppy is now healthy, happy and STILL ALIVE. I don't want anyone else to have to experience such sub-standard veterinary care like the service we received from Blue Ravine Animal Hospital. We love our dogs and had we listened to them we would have euthanized a puppy with a fight in her to live. This may not have been important to them, but it was important to us. I wonder how many others have lost a pet because of their laziness. Unacceptable!

Besides just our situation with a sick puppy, all of the other times we have ever visited this hospital they didn't talk to our dogs, play with them or do anything that other vets past and present have done have done to make them feel calm and comfortable. It was just in and out like pure business, no warmth. I honestly can't figure out why they even want to work with animals.

Pros: They were close to our house and fit us in on short notice if needed (but we realize now that isn't always what's important).

Cons: Rude, impersonal, detached, cold, did not treat pets with love what-so-ever, Basically just didn't seem to care.

Response from this business:

We are so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience at our hospital. It is always our goal to provide the best quality medical care in a caring and compassionate way. It is disheartening to hear that we fell short of that goal on the day of your visit. Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. Since this posting, our staff has all undergone communications training which we hope will help prevent any future such incidents. We are so glad that your puppy is doing well. Thank you again for your comments. Sincerely, The Staff at Blue Ravine Animal Hospital
