Ok I'm going to give everybody out there on the net an honest review. Thank the heavens for the new manger (Clem Polines), current head instructor (Ms. Becky Gonsales) and director (Lynn Castaneda). Finally Kovars has assembled a team that all the students are happy with.
If I had one word to describe Mr.Polines it would enthusiastic. Polines is always looking for ways to help improve the school and the students overall martial arts experience. But what makes the pocket Kovars far superior from the rest is the instruction from Shidoshi Gonsales . Not only is she one of the best female instructors at Kovars, shes one of the best in the Kovars system, period.
Shes is well rounded instructor who understands what works in the real world. Ms.Gonsales takes the time to make sure students nail all there curriculum correctly. Also she has put on many exciting demonstrations for students that include jiu jitsu, kenpo, kickboxing, and a wide array of weapon usage. Furthermore, she has helped one student peruse a serious career in MMA (mixed martial arts.) If you want to get in the best shape you need to show up to her classes Monday and Wednesday. Trust me if you dont believe me shes good go sit down and watch one her classes. You can learn practical self defense moves from Gonsales, Polines, and the rest of the staff at Pocket Kovars.
The school it's self is very clean. New bags, mats, and and a freshly painted walls makes you feel proud of your school. Another plus it that Pocket is one of the few Kovars that still has a dressing room, so there's no need to put your gi on ahead of time.
Bottom line, sure its a little more than other schools but the school isnt to blame. If you do decide to join Kovars, the Pocket location is the best in the south area.
