Kitsch to the max! This place is decorated like an old ship, high, beamed ceilings, dark wood paneling, port holes. It's a decent place to have a drink, which are moderately priced, and the bartender's aren't stingy with the alcohol. This is a dark, hole-in-the-wall style bar, and is not for those looking for the neon lights and mirrored counter tops. Tuesday nights they host a great club, Lipstick. The DJs throw down an assortment of tunes from brit-pop, indie rock and electro. 3$ cover saves you money for drinks later, and you'll rub elbows with the local midtown-hipster scene, with the dyed black hair, piecrcings, tatoos, high-fashion kids. It's central location makes it an easy walk /bike ride from anywhere in midtown/downtown.

We show up later one night. & bands had played and one song left for the night. The bouncer still charges a full cover $15 to get in. I paid like a smuck I was a little buzzed and didn't know how late it was (11:00pm or so). Oh yeah and the band was great they where just stuck with a lame singer.
Pros: good drinks, atmosphere
Cons: wheres the talent?(at Blue Lamp?)
Good place to make fun of the people at lipstick! Actually a landmark of Sacramento bar goers! two dollar pabst and nice employees. Great place for woman too meet straight guys who don't look like their an extra in a fall out boy video actually never mind. Pros: the bar can bee crowed on the weekends
Great place for food, wonderful employees, awesome live music, i recommend
My favoright place in town to hang out see local bands and chill with my friends. Its like a younger version of the Cheers bar. Art, Jimbo, Al make the place the best.
Pros: Great music, Great supporter of, the local arts
Actually a great spot but those guys insist on booking the same boring has-been local bands over and over and over and over... You know their names- the whole "scene" as described in Alive and Kicking magazine. These bands should be relagated to maybe a Tuesday night spot and weekends should be handed over to someone who has a feel for booking exciting up and coming bands (both local and national). Maybe the locals wouldn't yawn when opening their News & Review and immediately make plans for a trip to the Bay Area. I'm afraid that's the honest truth isn't it?
Pros: nice place, location
Cons: boring music "scene", booking, booking
