I got a free one month pass to the Funky Door Yoga place in Berkeley from my brother. I had my first and last class last night. Let me start by saying the class itself and the instructor were great. The reason it was my last class is a result of what happened before the class began (no one had walked me through the process or rules mind you). I happen to ask some questions to my brother who was sitting next to me about the class etc. as we were waiting for the class to begin and people were wrapping up. Then this woman next to me says "shh!, there is no talking in the yoga room". As I explain this to my brother she says it again and then says that she is the owner. I said okay, but I don't understand the class hasn't started yet. She then gets up and leaves the room and asks that my brother and I come out to talk to her in a back room. She proceeds to scold us for "disrecpecting her house" and on and on. Sorry lady, when I invite people to my house, I allow them to be comfortable especially if it is their first time. Then she "allows" us to take the class, she did say she would refund our money and basically said we were not welcome in "her house". We requested a full refund from the courses my brother had signed up for. The good part is he got his money back. On a side note, once we got back into the class there were other people chatting in the room before the class began as well, so we weren't the only ones. I refuse to support any business that is rude and lacks customer service for a basic misunderstanding. If I was the type of person that this happened often to, I wouldn't take the time to rant about them. I just felt it necessary to share my experience. Furthermore, as I was telling my neighbor about the situation, she told me some other horrible stories about the customer service of this establishment in Berkeley when she was volunteering there. I am not sure how the other locations are and from my understanding they all have different owners, but if I were you I would boycott the Funky Door Yoga place in Berkeley.

Funky Door is the place for Bikram yoga. The instructors and staff are great. The studio eclectic and interesting. Most importantly, the classes are challenging and engaging. Love it.

I realize after reading other comments on the web that all these Bikram places smell - really bad. That was the first thing I noticed on entering the studio. The heat is something you can get used to quickly. The smell, I have concluded, is due to overheated carpeting- the smell is not just sweaty bodies. It has a helping of carpet glue and whatever other building material.
The instruction is more like aerobics/drill sergeant style which I don't find conducive to a meditative practice but some people want this kind of tongue-lashing.
But the smell (and a lot of people mentioned it) is what makes me leery.
The staff people are nice and if you don't mind the crowding, noise and smell it is a good stretch.
PROS: simple yoga
CONS: terrible atmosphere

This Yoga is challenging and rewarding and certainly unique . Depending on what kind of day I have , It seems
sometimes impossible and on other days doable. I feel, fresh cleansed and whole afterwards. Sometimes they heat the room a bit to much. When that happens I take a place at the side windows or entrance doors, it's cooler there with the air flow. Granted, It takes time out of my day but , hey, that's the time for myself with no phone ringing (what a blessing). I go twice a week.
The people there are really nice, good energy all around and lot's of support from the teacher, especially after the class.
The studio in Berkeley I go to is very clean which I think makes all the difference.
If you are thinking of trying it make sure to bring your own water bottle. You will need it!
I hope this information is helpful

I don't know what exactly to say about Funky Door. Granted, the Bikram style yoga they employ is enough to drive you insane, with its' screaming instructors and hundred degree sauna. But at the same time, Ed Renfro's artwork and the general aura of utter moral certitude are enough to support your spine and legs as you endure the ninety minute gauntlet.

PROS: Cartoons, Staff, Customers
CONS: Yoga
