Our names are Hao and Kim and we are writing to commend the efforts of the teachers at the Aldrich Montessori School of Huntington Beach. I am an engineer and Kim, my wife, is a First Grade Teacher for 11 years. Both of our children attend this school daily. We are so impressed at the social, motor, and academic progress that both our children have shown since they have been at the school. Mrs. Rodrigo, who is not only the director/owner, she is our four year old daughter??s teacher, has contributed to the academic excellence of our daughter. Since Kim is a teacher, she is very much aware of the detailed lesson plans that Mrs. Rodrigo provides for the youngsters. In addition Mrs. Rodrigo is driven and passionate to have all students at the school advance with her positive, loving, and encouraging attitude. One of many examples is that our daughter was unable to write her letters and numbers (0-9) accurately when she entered this school. Within 2 months our daughter is able to write sentences and numbers (1-100). Furthermore, she is able to complete a 50 piece puzzle independently with enjoyment. As for our 2 year old son, he was in Ms. Judy??s class. She is no longer working at the school. Although Ms. Judy was a bit loud with her voice, her heart was in the right place. She always tried to make great strides with all children by teaching with emphasis on motor, social, and academic skills. Again, we stress how impressed and amazed we are with the progress that we have witnessed in our two children in just a short period of time. Thus, we would highly recommend this school to all parents who are seeking a well balanced schooling experience for their child.

My 5 year old daughter has been attending Mrs. Rodrigo's school for 3 years. I too checked out all of the nearby Montessori schools and decided on this school for several reasons. First the staff is very loving and caring. Secondly, both my husband and I were made to feel important in her academic progression. This is very important to us as my husband is a high school teacher here in Huntington and I am a doctor. For us, education is tantamount to our daughter's development. After 3 years with Mrs. Rodrigo, she reads, does math problems in her head and on paper, writes simple stories, knows all of her states and their locations, sings, dances, socializes well, is very self confident and self assured, and is well ahead of her same age peers from her playgroup iin all areas. But most of all, she is happy to attend school, and, like many of the children, is never quite ready to leave without first showing us all of her accomplishments of the day. Our daughter also had the teacher in question for one year. She always wanted to hug and kiss her hello and good-bye. Her style could be considered more harsh than gentle, but on many levels she made up for it with really fun and exciting outdoor activities, storytelling, and a genuine interest in the childrens' growth and development. Our only complaint is that we can only leave her in this wonderful setting through second grade!

Montessori school of Huntington Beach is an awesome school. My four y/o and 2 y/o just adore their teachers and look forward to attending school each morning. Mrs. Rodrigo, the school's director, is hands on and involved with all aspects of her programs. She knows each child and family, and is committed to providing a rich and rewarding learning environment. The teachers are top notch. They love what they do and it shows. Me and my husband feel this school is amazing and is extremely impressed with the playground environment, the variety of classroom craft mediums and activities. Once enrolled, you become 'family'. Everyone cares about each other and the common goal, for our children to explore their environment, recognize their unique self and build the foundation for their future.

My child has been attending Montessori Sch. of HB for almost two years now and I have nothing but glowing report about the school. First off, the director is wonderful. She actually listens to the parents - most Montessori schools I researched gave me the feeling that they new more about what they were doing than I. BUT I AM THE PARENT RIGHT?? Ms Ava, my child's first teacher was just the greatest. She provided that "motherly" nurturing environment for my child before she transition into Ms. Judy's class. Though Judy's style is a bite crude, I have never caught her abusing any child in any way. That has been my experience. Now my child is in Ms. Rodrigo's class; at 3 years and 3 months, my child is able to read. I MEAN READ!!!, do additions, knows all her letter sounds and can actually spell words phonetically, and is learning to write sentences - AT 3 YEARS Plus!!. The school is GREAT!! Also, my interactions with other parents is also wonderful, they are nice friendly parents you can talk to about what the children are learning. It is unfortunately to hear what the previous reviewer said. What she "witness" is not characteristic of the school. It's one of the safest, most diverse place of learning I have come across. The director is well qualified. I am one of those choosy parents, I check and monitor everything, and I love the school. I would strongly recommend the school to any parent interested in sending their child to a safe and great place of learning.Mrs. Anyiam

My child is currently enrolled at a Montessori and since we are moving, I was considering placing my child at this Montessori. During my meeting, I witnessed a teacher, Judy, screaming at a child and telling him "use your brian" there are 3 books here, pick one and read it. She then turned to a little girl and screamed at her to read another book and that if she didn't want to read anything, she should re-read the same book over and over; otherwise she would be sent for "time-out". This all occurred while some of the younger children were getting ready for nap time.
After witnessing this border-line verbal abuse, I told the director that there was no way I would consider this school for my child.
I would definitely spend the extra money and send my child elsewhere.
