The Museum of Contemporary Art is not for the people who are into the classic art of the Renaissance and other similar eras. You wont find any of that kind of art in this museum. Instead, you will find lots of modern art that caters to perhaps a younger generation of art lovers. Photography seems to be the main type of art on display in this museum; however there are lots of sculptures as well. You have to think very much out of the box when you visit this museum, because it is not what you typically consider art. It is a great place for a field trip, especially for children or adults studying modern art. You will really gain a new understanding, and a new outlook on the world of art, with just one visit. The museums gift shop is probably one of the best parts about the museums. It is large, with lots of items from the small and relatively inexpensive (not cheap, this is a museum after all), to the outrageously expensive and over the top. What might be one of the best parts about this museum is its location, close to the beautiful beaches and expensive homes in La Jolla, its in the center of everything, and the scenery that surrounds it, is absolutely breathtaking.

This museum has two locations-one in La Jolla and one downtown. I visited the one in La Jolla with my mother and brother. We were not very impressed with the art on display. Although I was expecting art that was very modern, I was also expecting more than a canvas painted a single shade of brown and a line of stainless steel trash cans. While there were some interesting and talented exhibits, there were also a bunch of pieces that made you go, huh? The view from the back, the sculptures in the garden, and the well stocked gift shop were the best aspects of this museum.

This museum in La Jolla is a great place to visit. There are always interesting exhibits, and you're right by the ocean! It's a gorgeous building and a fun place to check out.

Located on the shop and restaurant filled Prospect St in La Jolla this museum is a nice addition to a day of eating and shopping and hanging out at the beach. It's a beautiful gallery with huge open spaces displaying huge (and small) pieces of art. There is often a lot of photography and sculptures (don't expect clay) and installments. What stands out most to me though, is the incredible view of the ocean out of huge picture windows. I would also recommend venturing outside, there is usually art out there (and more amazing views).
