The hospital offers rehabilitation for patients. However, they simply do this because they can charge more to Medicare. The rehabilitation was nothing special. In fact, my mother regressed instead of improved. Once they determine that the patient can't improve anymore, they call you and tell you to come pick them up. (I talked to numerous families that this happened to....we were not the only one) No assistance, no notice, just time to come pick up your loved one. And they are very insistent and rude!
I told them to put my mother in the parking lot and I would send the Modesto Bee (local newspaper) to come pick her up. They ended up keeping her, (however, continued to call me and tell me to come pick her up). By the way, I visited my mother every day, as did my father and we paid another person to be with her during the day when we couldn't be. We had to do this to make sure she received proper care!
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of choices for rehabilitation hospitals in Modesto. So, this might be your only choice. If that is the case, make sure you are vocal and insistant! Keep a journal in the patients room and make notes of problems. Get to know the care givers, (they are usually nice but may need some guidance on how to care for your loved one.) And, it might help to hire a "babysitter" to make sure your loved one is okay when you can't be there.
