It is quite unfortunate how many cutlery shops there are left in California. I have been going to Advance cutlery for over 11 years now and to be honest, they only get better and better. Vince, the boss and main sharpener of the shop (sharpening review towards the bottom), always finds the newest and popular items in the market. They carry an immense selection of folding knives, fixed blades, and knife accessories including, but not limited to: Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, Boker Magnum/Plus, Chris Reeves, real samurai swords, Kabar, Cold Steel, and many more. They are always willing to order something for you if you can't find something you want or if it is an exclusive order like a Spyderco Sprint run. (They even pay the shipping for you).

Advance Cutlery also has a huge selection of Kitchen knives and accessories including: Zwilling J.A. Henckels, Wusthof, Victorinox Forschner, Shun, and Globals. They also have many high end professional grooming supplies from Dovo, Soligen, and much more.

I understand some customer frustration with their prices. Yes, they are retail prices but I know for a fact that they do not charge any higher than MSRP. Online dealers have two reasons to sell knives that cheap. #1, they have no rent to pay!! $10 dollars profit to them is awesome enough! Advance Cutlery has to pay mall rent which I know costs an arm and a leg and two newborns. And admit it, you can find anything cheaper online. There is no shop in the mall that does not go by MSRP. When you find an item online at a cheaper price, keep looking, you'll find it cheaper. And when you find that, keep looking, because you'll sure as hell find it cheaper.
#2, Some random guy could have stole a large shipment of knives from a UPS truck and sell it for half of a dealer's costs right from his garage. That is 100% profit for them.
You don't even know if half the knives were abused or used when you buy online.
Advance Cutlery has the knife in stock where you can feel it and buy it without the hassle of shipping costs and package misplacement / theft which happens quite often. (You also don't need to suffer the waiting period) I treat the price increase as an admission price to the store to get a feel of the knives. (it is only about 20 more dollars) Many times I wanted a knife the moment I found it online. But when I felt it in my hands at Advance Cutlery, I made a complete 180 degrees (or a 360 like most of you say) and swore to never pick up that knife again.

Now the most popular service of Advance Cutlery. (this should have been the first thing I reviewed) Vince has been hand sharpening for over 20 years now. He has received many years of training across the world and has developed his own technique to a scary hair shaving edge. He sharpens pretty much anything that cuts INCLUDING SERRATIONS! (kitchen knives, garden pruners, kitchen shears, swords, cuticles, tweezers, etc.) He's a very nice guy to talk to and be careful when you speak with him, I have seen him sell ice to the Eskimos.

Advance Cutlery is a family owned business and was up at about 7 stores at one point in time. They are now down to their last store in the Arcadia Santa Anita mall outside in the Promenade by California Pizza Kitchen. If you use to drop by the Cerritos Advance Cutlery and dread the drive to Arcadia, Vince has a drop off for sharpening services at a shop called Shoe Wiz. (right next to See's Candy) I have never been there myself but I know many people still drop it off there. One of the coworkers once showed me a sword that Recon 1 (another knife store) had messed up. The customer who brought it in to Advance Cutlery was even recommended to Advance Cutlery by Recon 1 after they apologized for ruining his $600 Green Jade Lion sword. I once had a kitchen set sharpened at Bass Pro Shop (to give their services a try since I live practically across the street from them) and had to send them to Vince since Bass Pro Shop ruined them so badly. Vince sharpens according to the knife's factory angle so bring those chipped Shuns in! If you broke your tip, he'll fix that too.

Support your last 3 Southern California Cutlery stores. Don't let the internet take their business away. You won't get the same honesty, customer service, and on the spot handling that the internet lacks severely.

I give this shop a solid 5 stars for their constant improvement and rare services.

Simply the best and getting better.
