North Beach Pizza (STANYAN) is scary
by tom b.
Where to begin?
To a point I suppose you are always rolling the dice when you order food for delivery.
My latest episode occurred on the night of October 27th, 2009.
I ordered a pizza from the Stanyon St. North Beach Pizza at 6:34 p.m. (according to my Blackberry phone log) and called to get an update at 7:45, since I was told by the friendly female voice on the phone that the pizza would be delivered from 45 minutes to an hour---and I was already famished from waiting too long for my wife to break down and get busy rustling something up for us but once again, she had called my bluff. The girl on the phone said she was sorry but the driver was on his way and should be there any minute. Twenty minutes went by and once again, she apologized and said they were very busy but the driver was on his way. Fifteen minutes went by again before I called and this time asked to speak with a manager. Guiseppe (for lack of a better name, and to protect the innocent until proven guilty) picked up the line and, after hearing of my saga, told me the driver was on his way for sure this time and that because of my inconvenience, I would receive a credit for a free pizza on my next order and a soda. He also said that I should call back in 5 minutes if the driver did not arrive. By this time my knees were knocking from hunger and anger but I waited 10 minutes before I called with the latest report: no driver. He said he had just spoken to the driver who had returned to the restaurant and who told him that the pizza had been delivered to my address. I asked him how I liked the pizza since he had more information about my pizza than I and how I had paid for it since I knew there would be some record of my credit card transaction earlier on the phone and also with a signed credit card slip from the driver.
He said he would get to the botton of it at the end of the drivers shift to verify his balances and would call me tomorrow, Agast, I began yelling from the street below that I have no pizza and I am starving and he should walk over to the driver and ask to see the CC receipt. He said that one of us was lying but he would send me another pizza with the credit for a future pizza but this time would send out a free six-pack of soda. Dizzy, I agreed since he said I would have my pizza in 20 minutes. As I feebly walked back up the stairs to my apartment, Giuseppe called again to tell me the pizza and six-pack will be free and that the reason for all the confusion was because he was using an elderly driver who sometimes forgets.
The elderly driver (about my age in the 40's) showed up twenty-five minutes later apologizing for his boss who forgot to order the pizza and tried to pin the rap on him.
Got the pizza and the six-pack of cokes. Pizza was barely warm and a bit coagulated from sitting for who-knows-how-long but decent. Flipped the driver 16 bits for the sake of it and will savor the leftovers tomorrow morning.
Would I recommend this joint?
You tell me?

Best Pizza Delivery
by Natali D.
What can I say? Great pizza, fast delivery. I've been going to this location for many years, and have yet to be disappointed. The ingredients are always fresh, and the crust is crispy yet fluffy. The prices are very reasonable.
If you live within the immediate area of the location, you might get your pizza in 20 minutes or less.

It was a Friday night, and I admit it was busy, but they messed up our order and refused to fix it! The guys working there said no manager was available to correct the issue...I was really disappointed with the service, and the food was decent, but it does not make up for the rudeness of the staff.

Really great pizza but the service can be slow. Maybe I was there on an off night, but I felt the service was much slower than normal when the restaurant wasnt even that packed.

changed ownership and no quality control manager
by CSMobileUser
this place must of have changed crew, because the pizza I got delivered had toppings from precut vegetable bags , why , I am a real cook and I can tell the difference when something is cut fresh or comes from the bag. You've failed miserable with the pizza I got delivered, I never had a pizza so bad in my life, honestly.
the pizza I asked for was like eating a subway sandwich. Maybe, it was the 2pm crew that was working that day, I can only blame the pizza maker that day, not the staff, the pizza arrived on time, but as a North Beach Pizza like I used to have a little while back @ the San mateo NB, what a change but sorry to say, but avoid the DAY crew, I don't think I'll never , ever other a pizza @ the SAN MATEO NORTH BEACH PIZZA.

TERRIBLE CHOICE. ORDER ELSEWHERE.
by pizzaFanatic23
I was told it would take 40 minutes to deliver. Fine.
An hour and 15 minutes later, I called and they said it had left their restaurant 15 minutes ago.
I called back 15 minutes later. They said, again, that it had left fifteen minutes ago, even though they promised me in my last call that it had left 15 minutes prior to that.
They put me on hold for 15 minutes when I wanted to speak to the manager. Then the manger put me on hold to speak to the owner, whom the manager said was standing, "right next to me."
Their phone people are incompetent and liars.
The pizza arrived after 2 hours, cold, and they still wanted to charge me. I was desperate and hungry, so I paid half. I really, really wish I hadn't. The pizza isn't very good anywa.

SOGGY and TIRED
by eatgreek
I dont get the appeal of the pizza here... ive probably given the place 4 tries and i am always regretful. the pizza is always undercooked, soggy and impossible to eat. the toppings taste like theyve come from a can and the dough from a supermarket. never again.
Pros: THEY DELIVER
Cons: THEY DELIVER THEIR PIZZA

Best Pizza in Town!!!!
by defaria
There is no doubt about it. North Beach Pizza, especially the one on Haight St. and the one on Stanyan St. has the best pizza in town!!! The dough, the toppings, all the cheese... no other single slice of pizza will fill you up and leave you this satisfied! I definitely recommend it. You will get quality and quantity food for your money! I'm from Europe. At North
Beach Pizza on Haight St. we ate the best Pizza of our life!
Congratulations !!!!
Pros: best pizza, quantity of food, inexpensive

Late Sunday Frolic. Go Giants
by jackribbito98
Wonderful restaurant. This place is great, the food is fantastic, and I'd like to mention, children will enjoy themselves. Carlos, I believe that's his name, is very warm and funny person and he is a great addition to this restaurants atmosphere. He had my son do the hula, when he got his Hawaiian pizza and that was so funny. I recommend this pizza restaurant to all families. Carlos goes beyond his duties to make you feel welcome, try it, you'll love it.
Pros: Food, Workers, The heart of the city

El STINKO!!!
by sirmunchalot
Started the dinner with 1/2 Caesar salad for $3.95
The serving of watery greens was so small that a baby rabbit would have starved to death.
The main course: a "North Beach Special" pizza.
The crust was doughy.
The sauce was vile.
The sausage tasted like Jimmy Dean's.
This was the single worst pizza that I've had since having the misfortune of "dining" at Papa Potrero's.
Do not believe the positive reviews, obviously written by management. This was absolute garbage.
You'd be better off eating out of a dumpster.
Note: I ate at the original NB Pizza in North Beach several years ago and it it was quite good.
For this "restaurant" to use the same name, well, it is simply an embarrassment.
Pros: Pizza box was sturdy, They take US currency
Cons: Overpriced, Inedible

this place is WAAAAY too overrated
by aznxdood
everybody always tells me how good of a pizza north beach makes but it fails to impress me every time. maybe i just don't see it, but THAT is surely not the best pizza in the city. i never went to the haight restaurant, but i did try the one in north beach itself and, trust me, it's nothing special. blondie's is much better and a lot lot cheaper.
Pros: pretty good pizza
Cons: waaaaay too overrated

Humbug, hype and false advertising
by sierra
Having eaten in North Beach location many times and seeing North Beach pizza all the time as the best rated pizza in San Francisco, I ordered pizza to be delivered from the Height Street location. It took nearly 90 minutes for the food to arrive and what a disappointment! Whatever was delivered only remotely resembled pizza, it was more like loaf of bread with some red sauce smeared over it. When we contactated the restaurant they were rude and offered half price coupon for the next order. Never again!
Cons: Lousy Pizza, Lousy Service, Rip-off prices

North Beach Pizza, now on Haight
by aless_faria
I was thrilled when I found out my favorite pizza place had a location in the Haight! I usually go to the one in North Beach but now I can get pizza delivered to my work anytime I want!!
Cons: Not enought Parking

What? Delicious!
by mydogmoe
You think it is BLAND! This is some of the best pizza I have ever had. I often go to this little place in my neighborhood, but if I am near the Haight street store, I always go there. You can sit down or take out and it is awesome. I absolutely love this place and have always had good, consistent pizza here.

Don't go there...
by ChetShannon
Pizza was bland..... needs more flavor.. has too much cheese.. crust was OK....

My Rating System
by akornfield
North Beach has, by far, the bestest pizza ever. Truly the best is from North Beach at Haight, but their franchise has a nice store in San Mateo as well.
Pros: Value, Busy, Aromas
Cons: parking

This is how CA pizza gets a bad name
by sexpane
I don't know why I keep trying this place thinking the food will improve. The pizza is sloppily made, has an uneven crust, always too much cheese and a bland sauce.
I guess you could dress it up with fancy toppings, but if the basics aren't done right, a pizza just ends up being a wet mess of cheese and dough.
This place is extremely popular due to the poor selection of pizza in the Haight street area and large number or tourists/pot heads
Pros: its on Haight st, get it to go, late hours
Cons: pizza is poorly made, its on Haight st, not a great value

Top Quality
by pakaroly
North Beach Pizza (all of their locations) is excellent pizza. The shop in North Beach offers seating and more atmosphere than the others.
Tasty, New York-style pizza, large pies, quality ingredients. And they deliver, too.
Honestly, I chose several apartments based on whether they were within delivery range of these folks!

any pizza is better
by wanewrld
all the north beach pizzas stink, lousy suace, not enough toppings, and crumby dough, almost any pizza is better, even frozen
Posted 10/27/02
How do they make it soooo gooood?
by lfancon
That sauce... that crust, I'm seriously salivating right now. I highly recommend the pepperoni and garlic pizza.
Pros: Good Price, Great Food
Cons: Parking in SF :(
