FOOD 4 LESS / KROGER COMPANY ARE A BUNCH OF RACIST M.F.ers! My name is Darious Todd Harris. I was hired by them on 7/25/2013. I am currently employed as a utility clerk / cashier combo at the Baldwin Park store. I am a very hard-working, dedicated employee. I go FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND THE DUTIES OF MY JOB! EVERY WEEK I am constantly have conversations with the management, SPECIFICALLY WITH MAIN MANAGER / STORE DIRECTOR, MR. MIKE VELASCO, about my work hours, hourly pay, and promotion opportunities.

I AM CONSTANTLY BEGGING AND PLEADING WITH MR. MIKE VELASCO to increase my pay and work hours and to promote for me for all of my hard work. I AM CONSTANTLY, WEEKLY telling Mr. Velasco that I cannot pay my rent. My landlord has enough of my excuses. He told me tonight that either I catch up on my rent ($1165, of which $600 MUST be paid by Friday, April 18, 2014) or I will be back to sleeping in my car... as I was for three weeks back in October 2013. More recently, my primary cell phone was cut off because I don't make enough money to pay my bill. EVERY WEEK I am barely left with enough gas money just to get to work. I have told Mr. Velasco REPEATEDLY, CONSTANTLY, WEEKLY that I MUST have at least 35-38 weekly working hours in order to survive on my minimum wage job; that I MUST get a promotion THAT I HAVE MORE THAN EARNED SEVERAL TIMES OVER!

All I get is CONSTANT BULLCRAP EXCUSES from Mr. Velasco. He tells me that I don't move with a "sense of urgency", or that he has a limited among of hours that he can give to his employees.... especially with business being "slow". ALL OF THIS IS TOTAL BULLCRAP! Mr. Velasco continues to hire NEW EMPLOYEES which further stretches out the "limited" amount of working hours and makes things EVEN FINANCIALLY HARDER for established employees like myself. MOREOVER, despite the "slow" business, virtually all of my Mexican co-workers CONSISTENTLY get at least 22-36(+) hours a week. That is NOT the case with me (17 26 hours on average) and the handful of other Afrikan employees of that store. In fact, one of my Afrikan co-workers, Rodney, was demoted as dairy manager and given part-time work status when he complained about a female Caucasian co-worker, Wendy, constantly harassing him about how he does his job. Rodney is currently in the process of transferring to another store. He personally told me that Mr. Velasco became very upset with him because he bypassed Velascos authority to make it happen.

My co-worker/friend Maribel and I have been constantly harassed by co-manager Danielle Herrera for speaking to each other on company time DESPITE both of us getting all of work done in a timely and orderly fashion. Seems to me that Ms. Herrera should be paying attention the fact that she is engaging in unprofessional activity with a fellow co-manager, Luis, who is married with children ON COMPANY TIME! I am not the only the one who know this. A couple of my co-workers have confirmed this to me. This would include a former cashier, Monica, who ended up quitting her job due to inappropriate advances from Luis and a variety of personal issues with Ms. Herrera.

I have been passed over for MANY promotional opportunities to my Mexican co-workers. Some of them employed LONG AFTER ME! On February 9, 2014, I was sent home two hours early by Ms. Herrera because I would not allow her to talk to me disrespectfully and FALSELY ACCUSE me of "wasting company time by fiddling around with papers at the checkout stand". IN REALITY, I was finishing up with checking out customers and doing two cash drops. When I tried to explain this to her, she thought I was disrespecting her authority and I lost two hours of pay that I desperately needed. I HAVE NEVER HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE. After that incident, I have not and will never ever again shop at any Food 4 Less / Ralphs / Kroger affiliated supermarkets. In fact, I am seeking potentially new employment with competitive stores with whom I now shop.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH THESE RACIST M.F.ers! As of this morning, Sunday, March 30, 2014, I filed online complain of on-the-job racial discrimination with the SoCal American Civil Liberties Union against Food 4 Less / Kroger. AND THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING! I am planning to do everything in my power to expose this racist organization and hopefully make things better for myself and all other people of color who want and need to work just like anyone else.

Sometimes they have really good deals on produce. They keep the place nice, clean, and tidy. Theres practically everything. If you need something i gurantee that you'll find it here. Its pretty big. The people there are nice and are willing to help. Parking is good too. You won't find trouble finding parking here. Target and payless shoe store is also near by if you want to shop elsewhere but Food 4 Less is all you need.
