On Sunday, June 24, 2006 I visited the Wet Seal at the Sherman Oaks Fashion Square around 5pm. Upon entering, a long row of red shoes along the floor caught my eye. I wanted to buy a pair but needed them in a size 9 1/2. Behind me stood an employee who appeared to be folding clothes. I specifically asked her if the shoes came in half sizes so as to spare myself looking through this row of shoes for something that may or may not exist. She waved her hand, as if bothered by me "interruption," and said dismissively, "Whatever we have out there is all we have." So rude was her response that I was prompted to reply "Well, that's not the question I asked you. I asked if you carried the shoes in half sizes so I'm not looking around for nothing and I can just take a nine." She shrugged her shoulders and said "Yeah, I'm sure we do," and went right back to "folding."
Although this was just one Wet Seal employee, it is the perfect example of the steady decline of customer service in the retail industry. My husband and I, as well as some friends of our's have decided to call out stores and services like this in every media possible and refuse to patronize said places until our voices are heard. This Wet Seal location has been added to the list.

PROS: Inexpensive trendy clothing
CONS: Rude employees
