Editorial Review by Citysearch Staff "An affordable seafood menu served in swanky digs captures the heart of the Castro. The Scene Neighborhood hipsters throng at the bar featuring the fabulous selection of handcrafted cocktails, often adding to the high noise level--come for an early visit to actually hear your dining companion . A cleverly designed, enclosed patio with a circular fireplace keeps all warm even on blustery nights. The Food Though the name Catch could playfully refer to the plethora of dating options at the bar; it's also a hint at the menu's seafood fare. Tangy tuna tartare is studded with capers and onions; meaty, smoked salmon sushi roll with tempura shrimp is exquisite. The signature Seafood Stew blends all the required elements into a cheerful, heaping bowl."
GREAT SPACE...OKAY FOOD
by ggbbgg
They really hit a homerun with the design for Catch...excellent patio with Fireplace, etc...unfortunately they did not give the same attention to detail with the menu. It's hit and miss and mostly miss...the Lobster Ravioli is great...my companion had the steak and was unimpressed...the infamous Seafood stew was very disappointing and overpriced...the Crab Cakes are absolutely AWFUL mush of a wannabe crab cake...do not order this...it's just too bad that the people that spent all that money on this awesome space do not care too much about bringing back the Castro regulars...guess they are looking for the tourist crowd?
Pros: ENVIRONMENT, CROWD, BAR
Cons: HIGH PRICED, AVERAGE FOOD, OKAY SERVICE

Great Catch
by LisaR
I'm suprised at the other reviews - we had a great experience and great service at catch. Love the ambiance of the place. Trying to remember what we ate: fondue appetizer, mussels, and monkfish? Anyway, we were both happy with the food, prices, wine list and bar.

another disappointing castro joint
by kinkashink
I had high hopes for Catch. It could be a really great spot. The restaurant itself is very nice, the fireplace dining is great, the piano a great touch. The food was not the greatest. Catch tries to have something for everyone, but it just ends up with something mediocre. All the food we had (caeser, chowder, calamari, steak, salmon) was ill-prepared and lacking in personality. To top it off, I wasn't told about menu changes and in general the service was disjointed and knew nothing of the barn or wines, but the wine list was good. It's a great place to people-watch, but there are other joints in the castro that can provide that at a much lower cost.
Pros: location, ambience
Cons: food, service

Great outdoor fireplace dining, but food
by Jaspertoo
The outside fireplace dining was great. The wait staff was not very informed about what was in certain fish dishes (fish stew, fruita de mare). I counted the fish entrees on the menu, just half the menu was fish, the other half was pasta, burger, steak, etc. What was on the menu for fish was not very impressive. With a name like "Catch", I was expecting tuna, swordfish, scallops, none were on the menu.
I had the shrinp w/risotto, the flavor was bland and the risotto was not creamy. My friend had the fish stew, it was unexciting.
The menu would have to change before I'd return.

Whadda Catch!
by niceyblanderson
A fabulous addition to the Castro! The outdoor seating is glamorous and comfortable - even in winter. I have been there twice already. The food is creative, yet comforting. Excellent wine list and very good cocktails. The service has been fast and enthusiastic. For a place that has just opened, it is fantastic. Love the fondue appetizer! Also, I recommend the burger and the flank steak.
Pros: Enthusiastic Service, Prime Outdoor Seating, Creative Comfort Menu
Cons: Parking, A little noisy
