El Indio Mexican Restaurant

Wonderful Mexican food at very affordable prices! You can build a meal of exactly what sounds good to you..pick and choose to make it just right! The people there are very nice and the service is very quick! Great shredded beef enchiladas! (among lots of other things!)

El Indio is one of San Diego's original Mexican Restaurants and you wouldn't be considered a true local without visiting it....great food and very authentic!

Just walk into El Indio and smell the food and you will be hooked. The chips are the best around. The rolled tacos are like no other, they are the best! I know people that come into town and go striaght to El Indio and also take some home with them.

El Indio Shop is a landmark. Whenever I am in the area I have to go.They have everything, and make all of their own food. It is all excellent, especially the fresh tortillas.I recently did a fundraiser event, and they supplied all of the food. I ordered a day ahead, and they had everything ready and waiting when I arrived to pick it up - even napkins and silverware.Everyone at the event raved about the chicken burritos. These and the fresh tamales - outstanding!!! If you are in San Diego, and like authentic Mexican food - El Indio is a must.

I love this restaurant. We've been going here for years. The food is always consistently good. It's always busy which is a good sign. A bit out of the way, but well worth it. Nice atmosphere too.

I have tried plenty of Mexican restaurants around San Diego and I must say that El Indio has one of the best chicken burritos. The chicken that they put it taste really FRESH and FLAVORFUL unlike the pollo asado found in other places where it taste like a pile of grease. They really take their time making all your orders hot, fast, and fresh so you know what you are eating hasn't been sitting there for a while. Also, they don't charge extra for you to customize your burrito to your liking, so feel free to ask them to put lettuce and tomato in your burritoes.

Coming from a lifetime resident of San Diego (and lifetime Mexican), I can tell you that El Indio is NOT the best Mex food in town.

I ordered the Carne Asada plate. Carne Asada my ***! What I got were bland, little lumps of "beef," sub-par frijoles, and flavorless red rice.

The place was hoping, but looking around, I noticed my girlfriend and I were the only Mexicans in the joint. I wonder why? Well, at least it explains the watered-down version of "Mexican" cuisine I was served. Sad thing is, all the employees are Mexican-- they know a lot better than to be serving this crap, and that this cuisine is nothing but a cheap knockoff of what they eat themselves.

If you want real Mexican food, don't be afraid to venture in to a neighborhood where the locals truly know what they're talking about. Don't settle for this "touristy" version of our great culinary delights.

Awesome Mexican food. You can order take out or eat it there. There is an outdoor dining patio. You can also purchase tortillas and their menu items to cook at home. Highly recommend this place.
