I love coming here. The staff is great and so is the food. I don't normally like to eat at sit down restaurants due to the pricing and waits, but this place is well worth it. First, parking is ample which is a huge plus. I hate circling around a parking lot and by the time I've found a spot I change my mind about going. It's located right off the freeway surrounded by ample parking lots. Although the wait can be a bit long (Friday and Saturday are their busiest days) it's well worth it. I tend to always get the Trout since it's so delicious!! They add a special sauce to it, but I like to just get it plain grilled. I usually get the stuffed potato as a side, but their mac n' cheese is to die for! I usually don't like to go to sit down restaurants, but for Wood Ranch I'll make an exception.

The servers are professional and attentive. The food is outstanding! I'd recommend one of their salads, while my husband would recommend a meat dish. Our kids love the kid-sized portions - especially the mac-n-cheese. It's a nice place to celebrate a special occasion.

Pros: The atmosphere and the food

Cons: make a reservation

Wood Ranch has some of the best BBQ. There menu is quite extensive and everything I get there taste great. My recommendation is to try the baby back ribs or the BBQ chicken. Also do not forget the rolls. The only problem with this place is the wait can be extremely long.

This is a high quality place to have a good dinner. It has very very very good food & drinks & appetizers & the bread is so well made & fresh too. The little bread buns has garlic on it, and thats why it tastes so good. The dessert is the bomb! That's the high quality stuff, and everything you get there is mouth-watering food, that you can eat for hours & hours. This is so well done that I give this restaurant five stars & its very very very highly quality reccomended stuff.

Wood Ranch has VERY good barbeque and drinks...it has more of a sportsy feel to it...I would recommend this as a place to hang out with your friends and get a good meal...gets REALLY crowded during the holidays.

I've been to the Agoura Hills and Moorpark locations for lunch and dinner. I'd recommend reservations for dinner. The decor is reminiscent of a "ranch / cowboy" style with hardwood tables and chairs. Ambiance reminds me of BJs (casual) but for BBQ, which can be loud at times. The BBQ tri tip is not top notch. Having gone to school up in San Luis Obispo for college, there is nothing that beats Santa Maria tri tip (hint: Mo's has the best tri-tip, in my opinion with Firestone's at close second). Wood Ranch tri tip can be dry at times with little or no taste. Other than that, the chopped salads either chicken or tri-tip is decent. This place is not worth the "9" rating it currently has. I would rate this around a 7 or 8, at best. I'm critical of BBQ / Grill places considering of all the BBQ'ing and grilling I've done in college and having eaten at some of the best BBQ places in California - "hole in the wall" places included.

I have to say: Anyone that would give this place a bad rating is an idiot! We and all of our friends have benn going there since it opened and it's great EVERYTIME! Go there hungry, order a dozen free rolls, drink a 20 oz beer, and have a great dinner. Thats what Im Talking about! Top it off with a mud pie, and your ready to go! GOOD FOOD!

To tell you the truth, I really am not a huge BBQ fan, but Woodranch I like. The place is always packed and usually has a wait because it is so good. All the locals in Agoura go there often. Make sure to try their BBQ chicken salad. They also serve amazing butter and galic dinner rolls which I very addicting. There is a movie theather right across the street so you can make it a date night!

Horrible, bottled tasting sauce that lacks smoke and is too sticky and sweet. The food is so uneventful and commercialized that I cannot, for the life of me, understand why it is always so packed. I guess these people have no idea what real, hole-in-the-wall BBQ should taste like!

I couldn't believe my experience with this restaurant. I told our waitress it was my birthday. Fine. I ordered tri-tip medium rare and a sam adams (it was my 21st). She came back and said she was out of sam adams (supposedly on tap). I said fine, just give me some beer, whatever you have. She came back 20 minutes later and told me that she was also out of tri-tip. This is when I asked to speak to a manager because I wasn't about to drink a beer I didn't want and be refused the supposed specialty. How can you run out of tri tip? Why would you tell me you have them and then come back 20 minutes later and tell me you are out? She refused to get a manager and I paid for the beer I didn't drink and left. I suggest not attending this restaurant.

Nice place for tri-tip or steak, very enjoyable, but this is grilled meat not barbacue!

Cons: long waiting, no lunch

If you go here for a good steak--watch out. They have very few cuts of steak, mostly specializing in tri-tip, with Prime Rib only on the weekends. The prime rib is quite boring--much better at Black Angus. The tri-tip is very bland, too. HOWEVER, if you do not try the tri-tip salad, you will miss a quite original dish. If you order it "to-go," request it tossed, because they use two different dressings.

I was disappointed with this place. I had heard positive feedback, and I expected more than what was offered. The meat was over-cooked.

Wood Ranch in Agoura has good service and GREAT PRIME RIB, but stay away from the one at Northridge Mall! I know several people, myself included, who had terrible service! How can you run out of prime rib, top sirloin and tri-tip, all in one night?!

To me, the only thing that Woodranch does well is the tritip.

Our entire group was diappointed with the the sides. We would have liked to see the beans and slaw fro the Bear Pitt (Mission Hills, CA). We actually thought the two restaurants should combine efforts. (Bear Pit doesn't serve Tritip).

If you're a fan of tri-tip like I am THIS is the place! The meat is juicy with a tangy taste of the BBQ sauce. I love getting the combo plate with their Babyback ribs. Yummy!

Strongly agree with mds02's opinion.

The Wood Ranch restaurant that I went to was in Camarillo. I should have known it was a bad idea to go eat here when I noticed the the restaurant is right next to a Mortuary.

Anyway, customer service was okay. A little slow, but some what polite, which could also deserve best acting for being polite. Btw, how long does it take get some napkins and how many people do you have to tell to get it for you? Hoenstly too much hype for WR on their food.

Speaking of the food, don't try their barbeque chicken. Its really dry. Recipe tip for WR: Marinate!!! Don't just barbeue the chicken and spread barbeque all over it. I could have done that at home.

My first and last time I wil go here!!!

Finally! A barbeque place that gets it. It's comfortable, with very good food at fairly reasonable prices. The tri tip is so good -- it's the best in LA. You have to drive to Santa Maria to get better.

What can I say about Wood Ranch, it is incredible. The tri tip is tender and flavoral, especially with their very own tasteful bbq sauce. As for the side dishes, the mashed potatoes are really incredible. And lets not forget that you start off the meal with theses delicious garlic rolls that you just can't get enough of. All in all, a very good recomendation!

Wood Ranch is simply awesome. Who says you have to endure dining in a "shack" to get mouth-watering, great quality barbecue? Wood Ranch breaks from the pack with its upscale environment, high energy dining room, friendly attentive service and what my friends and I swear to be the best 'cue in town. And their catering is a downright bargain!

a ranch in a city, that gently touches all taste buds with a hint of tang and a splash of sweetness. Meats just done right and a tropical tea to top it all off. Peanut coleslaw adds a little twist along with the sweet crisp surrender of a corn on a cob. Even for the lightweight meat eatters, their salads are remarkable. A crisp salad topped with a light vinegarette dressing, exentuates the texture and taste of the tri-tip slices surrounding it with pieces of mint and blue cheese crumbles to send your taste buds soaring thru different heights. A trip worth taking.

I've been to the original location in Agoura Hills. Although they have bar-b-que in their name, they're just a family oriented steakhouse that serves ribs. Prices are reasonable, food is reasonable, but don't go looking for serious barbeque.

We tried the new location at "The Grove" adjacent to the Farmers Market in LA last night, and would like to warn the citysearch readership that the Grove location is HORRIBLE. The food, SERVICE , location and parking (or lack thereof) were unacceptable. I have no idea what the upper management at WR is thinking about, but they have certainly placed a group of inept individuals at the Grove location as management and servive here were unspeakably poor. We had to draw our own drink refills. Meat was overcooked with no apologies provided. Long story short, I did something I have never done in my life - left $0.01 tip (tab was $110 for 5). Don't go to this location! If you are experienced with the WR chain - you will regret trying this place.

This may be a chain as opposed to an endearing mom-and-pop neighborhood favorite, but barbecue fans need not worry---this is the real thing. The restaurant's most popular item, a tri-tip roast, is slow-roasted overnight and…
