I am a big fan of Sorrento Grill and lately I find myself to make any excuse to go there for Happy Hour to Enjoy some Fine Wine and Martinis. My favorite is there Port selection. I got a Sweet Tooth and they take care of it for me. The service is always top notch!

Pros: Delicious Desserts to go with the Fine Port Wine

Cons: None

Last night my best friend Bill and I ate at the cooking bar and had a nice cozy spot all to ourselves. We shared the spincah salad which had some very interesting spinach...red colored...but the cheese crouton and dressing with candied walnuts made the salad delicious.

Bill had chicken and mashed potatoes which were reportedly delicious. I did get a bite of the potatos. I had the special tomatoes and cheese, can't remember the fancy name but it was fabulous.

For dessert, yes we had barely enough room, was an incredible french toast tiramisu with bananas and walnut ice cream!

Yum yum yum...have always liked this corner dining spot and it's still as good as when it first opened...although quite different with the creative touches and tastes of Chef Ryan Adams and Manager Lori McLean. Kudos to all!

Pros: Wonderful food, great ambiance

Cons: Like most restaurants these days, a little noisy

For me the no. 1 draw is the ambiance. This place feels so right and so Laguna casual elegance. A close second and first to most folks is the incredible dining experience with Wilhelm at the helm - no pun intended. Always fresh, beautifully prepared and smartly plated.

I love it

I love Sorrento! Now that David Wilhelm's back in charge, the restaurant has stepped it up a notch! The minute you walk in, the energy of the restaurant is a perk.

I love the paparadelle stroganoff. Sinful, but, soooooooo good. Glass of champagne? Makes for a perfect evening. I definitely will be a regular!

With restaranteur David Wilhelm back at the helm, and Chef Ryan Adams in the kitchen, this Laguna Beach gem has been restored to its full luster. Offering a perfect blend of ambience, enough "noise" to keep things lively, friendly and professional service, and fantastic but not over the top food, Sorrento Grill offers the perfect blend for any dinner in Laguna. The new small plates and summer menu also make it more accessable than ever. Enjoy.

Recently I saw that David Wilhelm is involved again. Since Sorrento was no longer a Culinary Adventures restaurant I had been staying away. I came in with my wife and tried the new Summer menu last week. It was Great! Glad you're back David. My hats off to Chef Ryan.

Pros: The new Summer Menu is really GOOD

I have been to Sorrento a number of times and have yet to be disappointed. I'm not a foody so reader beware, but I really enjoy the wood-grilled ceaser salad and either the short-ribs or halibut for entrees. It is the best first-date place in Laguna Beach given the lively, yet intimate feel. Staff is always fantastic.

I love this place. Just off the main drag it is what restuarants apsire to be. Great food, service and atmosphere make it my favorite hideaway in town. Some nights it is a party and other nights it is the perfect cozy spot for two. Sitting upstairs is the best.

The five or so-times I've been to Sorrento Grille over the past few years, it's been consistently good, and the staff has been super friendly. I prefer the Seabass and the Salmon, and love the Yukon Gold Potatoes that come with it...and the portions are generous so I know when I'm back in LA, I'll have a little Sorrento Grille the next day. It's worth the drive, to hang out and dine in Laguna Beach...Consistency and longevity are hard to find so it's great to know that Sorrento Grille and its great food and friendly staff will be there when I'm daycationing.

We had a delightful time at Sorrento Grille in Laguna Beach sitting at the Grille. The aromas were delicious and the chefs' actions were fun to watch too. Not too noisy, could have easy conversation while enjoying the whole evening

The atmosphere is exciting and inviting. They make a mean martini and the food was terrific. The service was great and they seem to really care if you enjoy yourself...something we don't see too often anymore. We will be regulars!

Sorrento is nice and elegant albeit very expensive. Some of the items are marginal and some are spectacular so consistency isn't really their thing. Overall, it's worth trying at least once as you might have a wonderful evening.

A few years ago I dinned at Sorrento and left feeling content but not estatic about the place. I gave it a second chance this past weekend and was completely impressed with the restaurant, service, food and wine. The menu was different then I remember and for the better. I ordered a pork chop that was as big as my head and it was amazing. It had squash and this fig sauce on top that was so mouth watering. My date had the seabass which was just as great. I guess they got a new chef who has redone the menu and everything looks and smells divine.
Also the wine list was very impressive. Lots of recognizable names, but lots of other boutique wines as well. The server recommened several wines by the glass to pair with our dinner and they were outstanding. Our server was also great; very professional, knowledgable and sincere. We sat upstairs so we could people watch (and check out what everyone else was ordering).
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Great place to have dinner with a group of friends or have an intimate date. We will be back for sure.

Just another swanky, well-decorated spot with pretty fonts serving dressed-up bar food in elegant configurations.

You have to have a pretty darn good reason to charge $14 for a martini--and they do not.

The calamari wasn't the worst I have had but it needed something special to step it up from fried its mediocrity, and the pseudo tartar sauce wasn't it. We asked for an alternative, and the best they could muster was Caesar salad dressing.

The Ahi tartare paired with watermelon and cilantro was light and very tasty!

We also had the artichoke appetizer, which was tough and tasted of char. Had to request drawn butter and garlic to avoid more of the pseudo tartar sauce.

Underwhelmed by our selections so far, we opted not to chance the entrees and went straight for dessert. The Avalanche (with cinnamon ice cream instead of vanilla) was a rich, yummy mix...though I could have done without the loads of peanuts in the caramel sauce.

Overall, not worth the price...no real desire to return.

Three stars ONLY for the Ahi, dessert and the obscure Beborn Beton song they played (and probably only because my boyfriend left a CD there when he installed their sound system). ;p

For several years i had worked at a local establishment where we regularly recommended this restaurant to our guests (who were from out of town). I was dissapointed when i tried it myself with a date on Christmas Eve (2007). On a scale of 1-10, i would rate the atmosphere-6, food-5, and service-9...more detail below

As stated in other reviews, part of the attraction is supposed to be the romantic ambiance. However, i was bothered at the noise factor, even though i reserved a more private seating upstairs. It's a bit distracting when having a conversation and not really romantic. Also, while the lighting is dim, as to be expected and preferred, the decor seems somewhat outdated or old fashion. Not really a modern feeling, atleast upstairs (to be fair).

My date ordered the Filet mignon w/ shrimp, which i also sampled for myself. Even while being the most expensive meal on the menu, both the meat & shrimp, and even the mashed potatoes, were really quite bland. I had the BBQ glazed pork chop w/potatoes and, i hate to say it, but it just was not very good or tasty. Both plates included the meat (decent size) in the center of plate on top of 1 to 2 cups of mashed potatoes. It did look beautiful and all the choices sound great, but i would not recommend either dish due to lack of flavor or needing better preparation. By itself, i found the portion size of each dish to require an additional side order to really have a complete meal.

The service from our waiter and the wine recommendation was the only postive i took away. I would have liked to have spoken to the manager but i did not want to make a scene in front of my guest which would have taken away from our special Christmas gift exchanging during the meal. Plus, how does one rescue a meal that we thought just tasted blah? Overall, with 1 appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 plates, i spent about $140. I really think you can get higher quality food, and atmosphere, for the same amount of $$.

well aside from the fact that they were out of my first two choices of Wine the overall experience was great. Food was cooked to spec, apps were great, desert was skipable but not bad by any means. Highly recommend requested The Mumford as your waiter he's awsome! Ask to sit upstairs if you want some quiet but if you like noise and a scene downstairs is solid for that. WAY BETTER THAN ALOT OF OTHER "FAMOUS" RESTAURANTS IN LAGUNA. Prices are beyond fair, something for everyone (including an overly pickey annoying veggiegal like my sister). I have nothing really bad to say about the restaurant except that they were out of the two wines I wanted but in exchange they picked up 2 bottles of water, 1 desert and 1 app. PS - HOW IS THE PLACE RATED MY EXPENSIVE THAN FIVE FEET? SOMEONE CHECK THAT....dinner at Five Feet for 5 people was $425.00 (and we didn't have wine) while at Sorrento it was $275.00 (with a GOOD bottle)
