"This restuaurant is authentic Italian food! Our area is full of ""chain"" restuarants that land you waiting for an hour and rushed out in just the same amount of time stuffed full of the usual fair! Here, you get a great meal, great ambiance, and service that is tops! Thanks to the great staff and owner this restaurant is tops in the L.A. area for Italian. I guarantee you will go home with food, they sreve you so much! If you need a date night out, eat here and head over to AMC or Dave and Busters at the mall. The other posters were right, parking is tight, but worth it! I'm glad I found this place."

A bit of history,. My father, Paul, owned a beauty shop across the street from the DR from 1922-1962. The DR still a favorite and Sarno's was great just down Vermont.

The first time I walked into this place I immediately thought of my ostentatious grandma's living room. I have never had the chance to eat at their restaurant, but when walking into the bar it was like taking a step back into the 1960s in the best way possible. The bartenders really know their drinks and I had one of the best Tom Collins ever. The only downer to my experience was that with the crowd it was a little difficult order a drink. I definitely want to give the restaurant a shot.

Who goes to live music at a place like the Dresden and says it's too loud? Go back to bed then and the rest of us will enjoy it. The Dresden takes you back to another world time, feeds you well, and gives you classic entertainment. Love it.

I went there with my husband on our first date after our baby was born. The food was terrible and the waitress was rude. She brought me the wrong order and told me right in my face that it was my fault. I will not got back.

I arrived before the lounge act started and was able to enjoy conversation and my glass of house wine. Once the act started, it was so loud, we had to leave the room. The musicians seemed fine, they played well, but they were so loud that it was painful to listen to and you could not hear what the person next to you was saying. The decor was fun, I just wish the music was not so loud, I would have enjoyed myself much more. Some of my friends ate there and did enjoy the food. For the most part the staff was nice.

I frequent the Dresden often and to be honest we only go for Marty and Elayne. We usually choose to go on Monday nights because it's less crowded and parking is usually easier but even if theres no street parking you can park in the lot for $2.50. Tonight we encountered a horrible experience. If you go here, watch out for the over-processed blonde waitress. She seems sweet at first but watch her move for about 5 minutes and you realize she's a hummingbird on speed. I have friends that have seen her do lines in the ladies. She's a complete b*tch. She forced me to order a drink (I'm pregnant and was simply there to be with my friends, and I ordered an expensive meal thinking that it would make up for buying a drink), she said I couldn't replace a drink with food so my only healthy option was a $5 bottle of Evian water. We had a group of 5 including myself. She took 2 of our orders, took half an hour to help the 3 other customers in the lounge, came back to take the other 2 orders and left our other friend hanging for another half hour. Finally we got everything we ordered (in about a 3 hour time period) and the same friend tried to order an appetizer. She told him she wouldn't take his food order until she helped the customers buying drinks first. We were all incredibly kind to her despite her attitude and coke problems. Finally she brought our checks. She piled about 10 papers together, handed my friend a napkin and pen and had him seperate the bills and do the math himself. They're handwritten checks so I'm not sure why she didn't just write them all seperately... Anyway then she came to the table and loudly asked who had the gold card and said it was declined. My friend is very wealthy so I know his card could not be declined. It was embarassing and unnecessary for her to announce it to the entire lounge. Basically it was a good 4 hours of Hell at the Dresden. All because of this server. Marty and Elayne ROCK! :) Go to see them but avoid "blonde" waitress!

The rack of lamb is almost on par with Commander's Palace in New Orleans and Laduree, Paris. Perfect with mint jelly!

So it's the perfect after work hang out. Good drinks, Not your typical bar atmosphere and friendly staff. AWESOME food!! There is nothing on the menu that's been bad. Their salads are enormous and when they have fresh halibut it is to die for. Lovely place, we miss it as now it is closed for lunch

I used to live on the same street as the Dresden, so it was a great place to just walk to with a friend when we decided to go out for lunch. There are a quite a few good restaurants in that four block span of Vermont where the Dresden is located. But just based on appearances Dresden is the most stately looking and inviting with an awning, stone and brick work on the outside with oval windows. I usually eat lunch late, so we ended up at the Dresden at around 2:30pm and the place was almost completely empty. The waiter asked if we had forgotten to eat lunch and right away you could see that this was the kind of place where they take service seriously not just a job that you take while you're waiting for something else. The red room looks like an old time bar, so we opted for the famous dining room with the white booths. The dining room is fairly small so, there is that feeling of cozyiness. But there is a lot of vertical interest with the tall decorations and it's beautiful. I've been to a lot of restaurants and I prefer the ones where the decor has real character, not just the crisp and clean look. If you have been to Taix on Sunset the feel here is somewhat similar although more casual. One diner was leaving just as we were perusing the menu, so we had the whole dining room to ourselves. How often does that happen in LA? The menu is very traditional fare with dishes like grilled chicken breast and prime rib. I ordered the prime rib, which looked like a hunk of meat when it came out, but the taste was exceptionally tender and good. My friend had the grilled chicken and was equally satisfied. There are no twists or hip LA concoctions on this menu, the basics probably haven't been changed in a long time. Basically, this is a place with a very unique look that is beautiful and you don't have to settle for bad food to get the experience.

i was truly looking forward to experienceing one of LA's must see shows. the dinner was inedible and NOT inexpensive. we then carried our coffee into the bar to see the 'show' and the waitress was rude and hustled drinks if we were going to stay for the "show". the snl parody is much better entertainment. save your money and go ANYwhere else.

My friend and I were looking for a fun place with no door drama, something with some spark, but where we could also talk, ya know? We'd never been to the Dresden and gave it a whirl last night.
What a treat! Right away - the lot in the back is easy to park (and cheap!), the door staff was friendly, we were approached by a waitress in the bar who helped us find a little table (imagine that - proactive service!), and our waitress was attentive and friendly. She got a little overwhelmed i think when the place filled up around 11-midnight, but we were having fun so it was cool.
The atmosphere is certainly enchanting and crowd was so mixed - everything from lively older couples to attractive singles to crowds of hipsters. Marty and Elayne are amazing & take requests!! :) And some guest singers who popped up on stage were great too. Drink prices are also very reasonable - was surprised by how little the bill was.
If you want a night out with some style and class, try the Dresden. Get there a little before the set starts to grab a booth and hold onto it all night, or mix it up with the crowd near the bar later and chat up an attractive guy. Don't go there to be seen or get crazy, keep it real and you'll have a great time.

Yes, you've seen in it movies. Yes, Marty and Elaine have been croonin' since the mid 1800s. But, here's the thing: this place is actually good. Great place to chill, having a drink or 10, and listen to some decent music. The food ain't bad either. I tend to avoid it on weekend. . .but if you like crowds, go for it.

The Dresden Room is absolutely fantastic. You will recognize it from a ton of movies, and it deserves to be in them. The food is pretty good, but the lounge room is what makes this place special! It is so much fun here and the people are so genuinely nice. Love it!

I love The Dresden Room! I used to go there regularly, but haven't been in awhile. I arrived on a busy Saturday night to a jam packed bar. I figured my party and I probably wouldn't have a chance at a table, but I thought to give it a try just in case. No twenty dollar handshake needed here. We asked the server if there were any available tables, and not only did say that she would snag us the next table that became available, she actually did! Completely refreshing! Bonnie gave us the best service, Marty and Elaine are quite the sight to see, and the crowd is awesome! I would highly recommend The Dresden Room. Old School Glamor with a pulse.

Menu offers fine dining, but the meals weren't cooked to perfection. Prices quite touristy. Wait staff super nice and genuine. Lounge next door fun. Marty & Elaine hokey but memorable and offer unique experience. One can talk while listening to classic songs. wish the sound system were better. The drinks were more juice than liquor, so stick to wine and beer. Cool white booths. Ambience over quality of food and drink.

I went to the Dresden yesterday and loved it! The fact that this place has appeared in movies got me there but the service and value will keep me coming back for more. It felt like a flash back in time when I first entered the door. The white booths, low lighting, and high ceilings were unlike anything else I've seen in other restaurants. The waiter was awesome! Very kind, helpful, and professional. Our glasses were constantly being topped off, the garlic bread kept coming, and our used dishes were taken from the table very quickly. I had so much to eat and really didn't spend a lot. For two people I ordered two main entrees, six drinks, and two appetizers for only a little over one hundred bucks (which is a lot of food for the price considering other places I've gone to). The food was delicious! I definetly recommend the Veil Marsala with a Pinot Grigio Wine. All the drinks I ordered were great even the Dirty Martini I had for myself. The lounge act was entertaining although I did not see them since I was in the next room I really enjoyed the songs that were sung. Overall fantastic experience highly recommended!

I have never eaten a lick of anything at the Dresden...I'll go have a bite to eat at Vermont down the way and then walk up to catch Marty & Elaine, who truly are a delight and probably keep the doors at this LA establishment constantly flooded with happy fans and customers. Drop a buck into their overflowing tip jar and I can guarantee you they will know just about any Dean Martin standard you want them to sing! Try the "b l o o d and sand" cocktail. I have no idea what's in it but after 3 of them, you will be having an excellent time.

After hearing about this restaurant, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, you feel swept away to the sixties. The decor is amazing; sense of humor or not. White leather booths and dark wood interiors create an ambiance different from anything I have seen in LA. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly staff, and seated immediately. Our waiter was hilarious and provided helpful hints with the menu and wine list. He also kept fresh garlic bread on the table and constantly refilled our glasses. The food was good and the portions large - I had pasta primavera in white wine sauce, and the bf had a steak with a giant baked potato. The meals come with soup or salad and a choice of side. Prices were decent for the huge amount of food and the ambiance-- they range in the $14-$23 territory. Don't choose The Dresden Room if you are looking for a light meal, as everything is heavy and fairly full of pasta, meat, or butter. We missed the lounge act, but plan on going back to see it. Highly recommended for a 'different cool' night out, as you won't find anything remotely trendy about this dining establishment.

This afternoon when I checked my online bank balance, I'd been overcharged from last night's dinner, and the owner was extraordinairly rude to our entire party.
If you're under 60, don't pick The Dresden.

I've lived in Los Feliz for a while and my wife and I took some guest to the classic Dresden for drinks, music and a little food. We've gone there quite a bit through the years. We were devastated to discover the classic spot is really going downhill. Overpriced, low quality, bad service, over crowded, they mix up our orders three times and overcharged us. It was an embarrassment to us and our friends. Never going back.

As I said in another review, I eat out A LOT. There are only about 3 restaurants in LA that I've ever told my friends they "must" go to. Dresden is one of them. I wanted to pick a place for our anniversary dinner that we'd never been to. I came across Dresden Room by accident, but it was on some list (like 100 things to do in LA before you die). Appetizers, Steak, Halibut, Wine, Dessert, EVERYTHING INCLUDING TIP was $100 for 2 people. We had the most expensive items on the menu, too! Amazing value. I know people talk about the Lounge, but we were just there for dinner. I think the restaurant portion of this place is being unfairly overlooked! Try it!

The Dresden is not only a great bar, it's a great place to enjoy a nice dinner for two, or more. I went to the spot on a Saturday evening before the nightly performance. The food was good, although it is a bit pricey. The service is good, the seating area is like something out of yesterday's past with vintage decorations, etc. It really is a glamorous little spot. Great place to take a date for a top quality meal with good customer service

PROS: Classy Feel, Good Service, Good Food, Great Performance In the Bar
CONS: Food is a Bit Pricey, but you get what you pay for

I remember being allowed into the Dresden before I turned 21. And because I was a kid, it was like being let into a secret. And then I saw Swingers and it pretty much killed the memory. However, being the LA establishment it is, I definitely recommend taking visitors in so they can check out the piano bar and the famour duo!

I love this place when it comes to drinks, cool older and experienced bartenders, and atmosphere. I just wish Marty and Elaine would take a longer break and would take more days off. You can only take so much, really!

very old hollywood. the Dresden is a fun, funky, old school place to hang with friends. You can sit in the old school white leather booths and drink martini's while listening to marty and elaine. a fun, low key crowd. check it out. if you get bored you are close to other options.

Excellent L.A. vibe. Impress your date with how "cool" you are. Made famous amongst urban hipsters when "Mike and Trent" stopped in for a few drinks in the movie Swingers.

If you like the "copa cabana", this is the place for you. White leather couches. Food was okay. Drinks were okay. Lounge music was tormentful. The place wasn't for me, but I could understand why people would find it amusing...

I love this place. Marty and Elayne are something everyone should experience at least once. They do really loungey versions of songs like "Muscrat Love" and "Stayin' Alive." The martinis are excellent, made old-fashioned and correct. The glasses are small but they don't charge $12 for them either. Arrive early and get a booth if you can, though it's been awhile since I've seen the place unbearably crowded. Eat somewhere else first because the food is really just average.

Pros: fun place, good music, great drinks

Cons: food not great, no free parking

It's always fun to hang out and listen to the vocal stylings of Marty and Elaine, but this place does get a little too packed with wanna-be hipsters on the weekends. The booths are prime seating, but you have to get there way early on Friday or Saturday to have a chance at them. I'd rather hang here on a week night with a bunch of pals; you wouldn't really want to take a date here that you were trying to impress unless s/he's a huge "Swingers" fan or has a taste for kitsch.

The Dresden Lounge is a great place for eating, talking and relaxing, because the Dresden is located in a cool part of LA, contains 40's style architecture, feels like LA, and has a history with visiting movie stars. Also, my parents, who have been married 46 years, maintained their courtship at the Dresden in the 50's. Thus, the Dresden is a great and special place.

Pros: Architecture, Ambience, Wait staff

Cons: used to be smokey, dark

Marty & Elaine are only the beginning. An eclectic crowd, good tables, stocked bar and fantastic music.

I think the movie Swingers made this place cooler than it really is. Not much going on here.

Layout here is decent, with lots of the round booths that are good for small groups. Great drinks- pricey but worth it (try the "Blood and Sand"). Crowd varies, but is generally ok. Music is ok at first, but gets old after second visit (if not earlier). I enjoy happy hour here before the music and before it gets packed. Parking in back, which is nice.

...like a fungus. I understand that there's a certain historical element to these two, but I really believe they're there to drive you to drink. And it works. The more you drink, the more you appreciate them and the more fun you have. If you're the designated driver, bring a book and some earphones. Marty's no "piano man."

I can't ever keep a straight face here. The lounge act is too much sometimes. But laughing makes me feel terrible. All in all, a conflicted experience.

I enjoy this bar in the afternoon, not that I dont like Marty and Elaine, but it is a great looking lounge and I like to be mellow. The evening can be too crowded and I can do without the drink minimum. If you do go at night, tip the talent and they'll play any request. Make sure you acknowledge them after they played your song. Great free entertainment...

arty and Elaine are a great novelty act, but I couldn't hang out there all the time. It's a fun place to take visiting friends, but one drink is enough. It seems like the Dresden is trendy in waves, the last of which was around the time Swingers debuted. Now, it's hip again. Personally, I prefer it on a Sunday night, when there's no live music.

However, if you've never seen the famous twosome, request Stayin' Alive -- it's their signature song.
