My girlfriend and I were wandering around the boutiques in Del Mar and sumbled upon a beautiful little restaurant called Epazote.

Looking outside to the inside of the restaurant, we were not able to tell just how nice it was. In order to get to our table, we walked through the bar area, and up a little ramp onto the beautiful patio. The patio has an amazing view of the ocean and provided for a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Now, from the front of the building we weren't aware of how nice it was, and afterwards we were very suprised they seated us wearing shorts and sandles. I know of some other fancy restaurants that would've told us to "take a hike" but we didn't get any strange looks or anything. Everybody we came into contact with was extremely nice.

We were actually expecting to have a late lunch (their lunch menu was still outside) but they were only serving dinner. We decided to stay because we were starving the place was so nice.

Now, onto the food...
The food was top notch. Fresh bread was brought to the table and it was delicious. Their onion rolls were amazing. My girlfriend loved them so much that she asked for more AFTER she was done with her meal. Since we were expecting lunch, we decided not to spend very much for dinner, and we both ordered a shrimp cobb salad. The salad was $22 and after I saw it I decided that price was a bargain. The vegetables, avacoados, bacon bits, etc. were unbelievably fresh and the Shrimp were grilled perfectly. I can honestly say it was one of the best, most satisfying salads I've ever had. It was enough to leave me completely satisfied and not wanting more (which was unfortunate because I bet their desserts were excellent).

The service was excellent. I remember seeing on the menu that there was a minimum $40 per person minimum for patio seating, but apparently that wasn't a problem for us. We weren't prepared for dinner, since they had the lunch menu out, and I guess they let this slide. I know of some restaurants that wouldn't have been so nice. Or perhaps that $40 per person is for certain days.

Overall we loved this restaurant and plan on going back for a more special occassion. 5 Stars!

PROS: Great food, great service, beautiful view
CONS: None. They had their lunch menu out during dinner, so we weren't prepared.
