PLEASE specify which location you are talking about when referring to BK. I am speaking of the Pacificia location only. My daughter went to BK before she started kindergarten and LOVED it. The teachers are great and she was totally prepared to go to school. My 3 year old son is there now and having a similar experience. The teachers and director are friendly and welcoming. There are so many things to do and stimulating activities. One of our favorite things about BK is the singing, dancing, music and computers. These 'specials' are all part of the regular program. For a mom who works FT it is difficult to get children to any extra curricular classes so this is fantastic. Twice a year they put on an amazing show that will bring you to tears. The children get to play outside a few times a day. They break up into age groups daily to teach age and developmentally appropriate concepts. My son has been learning something new every single day. It may not be the newest or most modern facility but it is safe and enriching. I don't know anyone who has been disappointed having their child there.

Both my daughter's attended Building Kidz for 1 yr. I found the center to be caring and nurturing to the kids. I hated to leave... If I had not moved to the eastbay I would have kept my kids there and most likely through the elementary session... All the teacher in the Baby room were awesome never did I have seconds thoughts about leaving my baby there. Thank you Building Kidz as my oldest daughter still talks about you all and how she wants to go back to see Ms Anna and Ms. Helga as she called Ms. Elga.

I have to children the attend the Building Kidz in SSF. I love the school and my kids love the school. All the bad reviews that they have gotten are not true. The teachers are great and are talented as well. Every year the put on two shows were you can see your kids perform. My daughter is going to K and she will be leaving the school which I am said to say. But I found that they now have an k-5 program, so maybe she will be attend that school which I am happy to report. Thanks to that school my kids are both ahead of the ages in knowledge.

My older daughter went to Building Kidz last year and graduated to go to KG. She loved it there and frequently talks about her teachers. I am now sending my other child to the school as well. Whenever I go to pick him up he does not want to leave. I believe that says a lot. Their academics are wonderful and they had my daughter ready for Kindergarten. Her school was very impressed with what she already knew as compared to other children. I would definitely recommend the school.

I have two children who currently go Building Kidz in San Mateo and I must say that I am extremely impressed with the staff and what the school has to offer. My children have developed tremendously. One is 14months and the other is 3.5 years of age and they absolutely enjoy waking up in the morning and going to school. Often, on weekends they are talking about teachers. There is hardly any turnover and my children have had the same teachers. In the past two years there have been three incidents that I was not very pleased with. I don't think if I had them somewhere else, I would have not had any incidents as such. So we need to be understanding and give these teachers a pat on their backs for being there for our kids. In conclusion the school offers a friendly, nurturing envioronment, not to mention performing arts and computer classes each week. I recommend it to all my friends.

I am looking for daycare for my infant son & I had read the reviews prior to visiting the San Mateo facility. I thought I would still give them a chance even though I had read quite a few negative reviews. Upon visiting the site, I heard several crying toddlers on the playground. I actually heard a teacher say " I wish you would just hush up, or shut up"; not sure exactly which words were used. The teacher did not try to comfort the children at all. Upon meeting the director, I decided I did not think it was the best place for my infant. Upon leaving the facility, I told the director what I had heard, she did sound concerned and seemed to genuinely care, however she is not the one taking care of the children. When I was leaving another toddler was crying uncontrollably, and no one paid her any attention. I made a comment to the director and asked if it was their policy to let the children cry. Her reply was...she is teething. It may be the facility for some of you, but I would never leave my infant in a facility that does not believe in comforting a crying child or a child in pain. At least a toddler can tell you if their teacher is unkind, my infant would not be able to tell me if something was wrong. I also question how much experience the teachers at the center actually have. I was surprised that none of the teachers interact with the children in the play area and instead complain about the crying. I was not impressed in anyway and would never recommend this facility to any of my friends or family. I do not run a daycare and my story is factual not fiction! Check the place out for yourself around 10:30am, when the kids are all outside, and unfortunately you will see what I saw. Best of luck to all of you who are still looking for daycare....like me!! I did like Ganon Center in San Mateo and am leaning towards their facility. I did not notice any of these problems on my first visit. Plan to take my husband to visit it next week. The staff seemed to love their jobs and also really seemed to care about the infants as they took care of them. You may want to check that facility out in San Mateo.

My oldest is going on his 3rd year- and my other 2 have followed from the time they were 10 weeks old.
We love it- and so do they. As for the food- if you have something specific you want talk with the director she is very accomodating. In addition for the person the commented about the ex-cop with a BuildingKidz is the most equipped school i found to deal with emergencies, evacuations of all the children, earthquakes, etc etc etc...We have a retired Police Officer on site at their school- with a lot of female teachers. My children and the teachers are in one of the safest environments I have come accross. My children have had several emergencies there (none of which were the fault of the school) and they were always handled in a great way. My children are learning, happy and well cared for and safe. Not every daycare is for everyone- if this one is not for you find the one that is - but dont bash this one.

First, it would be helpful if the complainers would specify which of the 3 Building Kidz locations they're talking about. My daughter has attended Building Kidz on Grand Avenue for almost a year now and is currently in the toddler program, and loves it. Her teacher seems well qualified, takes continuing classes in early childhood education, and seems to genuinely care about all the kids. Plus, the other children in her class are sweet, good natured, and well behaved--the kind of kids I would want her to be around.

I am not 100% crazy about the food, which although nutritive seems highly processed and not organic (yogurt, canned fruit, graham crackers, etc.). Also, one of the aides does not seem particularly enthused to be there, but she only helps out with feeding and cleaning etc. and doesn't teach.

Overall, both we and are daughter are quite happy with the toddler program at 600 Grand. Now, to everyone who feels free to badmouth, please be specific as to location and program before you attempt to ruin a perfectly good school's reputation.

Run as fast as you can away from this place. It is utterly shocking that this "Child Care Center" is actually licensed by the state of California. From the unprofessionalism, disgusting bathrooms, completely crazy environment, tiny so called "classrooms" this place is a disaster! The children are running with little to no structure not to mention the teacher spend most of there time arguging! Horrible place for you child to be!

It's funny that the ones below talk about the last 3 years. Isin't this the school that bought Kidz care? I am a former a Kidz care parent and left after the changes. It was hard for me and my child. Building kids has only been in San Mateo for a year now and the only person who is still there since the change is that black Lady. My child was not in her group so I don't know her name. Let's be real and don't knock someone if they had an unhappy experience.

I read the review below and feel that people have nothing better to do. Its sounds like a competitor wanting to bring the school's name down. My personal experience has been very positive. My child loves to go to school everyday and on the weekends talks about his teachers. I have seen lot of the same teachers for the past three years so the turnover comment is not true. Ofcourse teachers have a life too and some may leave for personal reasons. Mostly everybody that I have spoken to seems to be happy with the school in general. Be wise and use your own judgement.

Oh my God! somebody can stoop this low, its hard to believe. I have my child at Building kidz for past two years and have had nothing but great experience. The teachers are very caring, nurturing and qualified. People start bickering about others when they can't deal with their personal problems and have personality issues. The review is nothing but lies and gossip.
Go visit it yourself and then decide. I am a very very happy parent and my daughter loves it. The school offers good curriculum and excellent performing arts.

This school uses excuse after excuse for their unorganized and unprofessional establishment. It's dirty! They feed the children unhealthy food. The turn over in teachers is ridiculous. There is no structure or consistency; almost all the teachers seem inexperienced or uneducated. On any given day you'll find a teacher on her cell phone, drinking star bucks coffee while supposedly supervising the children. This establishment thrives to make money. It??s not a childcare/preschool where children go to be loved and cared for while learning. I should be fair and say there are a few teachers that keep this place going like Ms McKelle. Without Ms McKelle the children would be out of control.

I have two grandchildren who are currently at Building Kidz, and two who go to the private school (Roger Williams Academy) on the premises. The Pastor of First Baptist Church is an honorably retired Deputy Sheriff, who was injured in the line of duty (not an "ex" cop.) He legally carries a concealed weapon, as all police officers can and do. He is able, and expected to protect against violance, and is not violent, himself.
The children at B.K. are more than ready for Kindergarten when they leave. They are loved an happy in a licensed environment. They are regularly inspected, as are all licensed facilities

My child has been going to this day care for the last 2 years, and I have found it to be a very warm and nurturing environment for him. He loves his teachers and the staff, and we have enjoyed making friends with the other parents and kids. The center recently changed ownership at the beginning of '07 and moved to a new facility a few months later. This caused some temporary disruption in the center's practices, but now that the move is complete and everyone has adapted to the new environment, the place is thriving again.

This center also includes a light-hearted performing arts program with music (guitar and piano) and dance (tap, ballet, and 'creative expression'). They had their first recital in December '06 to a Disney them, and it was a blast! The next recital is planned for mid-June to the theme of Annie, and I can't wait to see my child enjoy this experience again.

Poorly run with mostly unqualified, uncaring staff. Administration is terrible. Crying children unattended in corners while staff are chatting on their cell phones, a filthy facility. There is a GUN on the premises owned by an ex-cop, turned pastor at the church who owns the building. Almost never are the children outside, Children leave totally unprepared for Kindergarten. Many violations against this place from licensing. Find something better for your children.

Message from Building Kidz of South San Francisco

Welcome to Building Kidz of South San Francisco Preschool and Kindergarten

Located at 600 Grand Ave, this South San Francisco preschool is conveniently close to I-101.

At Building Kidz we understand how Early Childhood Education and a nurturing and loving environment impact the life of young children.

Our programs are designed to provide a world-class experience that will not only prepare children for Elementary school but also help them develop a lifelong love and interest for learning, which will make a major difference in children’s latter successes.

We strive to develop the whole child by integrating Performing Arts into our daily routines to accomplish and meet the education goals set up for each student through a fun, engaging and hands on academic exposure. Children will build the foundation for literacy, the ability to attend learning tasks, to control and express emotions and to develop proper social skills.

We firmly believe that exposure and integration to the arts at an early age enhances children’s confidence, character and academic excellence. Therefore, our Infants and toddlers benefit from weekly music classes while preschool and kindergarten children benefit from music, dance and theater classes.

Our facility is open all-year-round. Therefore, we offer an exceptional summer program that continues to focus on cognitive, emotional and physical development. At the same time providing new experiences and exposure to local community visitors like police department, fire department and librarians, etc. Furthermore, throughout the year, children let their imagination run wild through the exploration of materials and surroundings and the creation of paintings, drawings and sculptures. Science and Spanish are also taught all-year-round.

Additionally, we have multiple celebrations through out the year where parents are invited and welcome to attend to build relationships with fellow families in a school setting.

If you are looking for a place where your child can grow to love learning, please visit us and see how the Building Kidz of South San Francisco preschool and kindergarten can give your child the best start possible.
