5 Stars: Perfect Everything! (by webz)

I've been coming to EK for a couple of years already and everything is fantastic; from the Bollywood on the big screen to the always fresh and delicious food, to the extremely friendly owner Pama who will even keep you company if you are dining alone, to the authentic and over the top decor and ambiance. Then of course there is Kate... the hostess who is simply glowing; the friendliest person ever and who masterfully interacts with both guests and kitchen to make sure that every dish is prepared to your personal satisfaction and that the experience is overwhelmingly positive. EK makes for an exotic and always enjoyable evening.

4 Stars: Love the Food, Hate the Patio! (by FrakYa)

My husband and I CRAVE this food and usually get it delivered. One night, we decided to dine in, and because it was a beautiful night and their outdoor patio is layered with floor pillows and candles, we chose the atrium. As usual, the food was to die for... we ordered additional things and tried new stuff, but sadly our meal was blown out by the sea of smokers who are allowed to puff up continuously! The patio was so cozy and charming, but we literally went from course to course with smokers blowing smoke toward us from each side. That said, we will definitely continue to get this food, only we'll stay home. :o)

5 Stars: simply amazing (by criticlatimes)

electric karma a lovely dining option. My dining experience felt like I was royalty. With calming music and lovely ambiance I forgot about my order till it came. The meal is well worth the cost. There is flavor as well as heat.
the out door patio with the pillows is the best hidden place in town!

5 Stars: Love the food, cozy and intimate atmosphere (by Banaga79)

In the past, I usually went with the delivery service to my house in Hollywood..( menu that I took from friend cause the food sounded tasty). I never made an attempt to pay a restaurant visit until today. Yesterday I ordered delivery service from Electric Karma and today I finally made the effort to visit the place. As I first walked in, I right away loved the decor. I sat in a cozy booth and from my view I can see the outside patio and I thought the next time I would love to bring friends with me to enjoy the really cute and cozy outside setting. The pricing is great. The service was fabulous. The waiters were nice. I believe I was also approached by the owner and asked me if I needed anything else done to my food and if it was ok. It was more than ok. It was excellent. They made me feel comfortable, welcomed, and most of all happy. I will try to make more attempts to come here more often although I still appreciate the delivery service. =)

5 Stars: Free refill of best chai & complimentary appetizer (by latimescritic)

Excellent food and service. Free refill of best indian chai, then complimentary appetizer, and finish with free dessert. What a deal. Super great service. My friend and I did not finish our complimentary appetizer so that we could save room for the entree and desserts. The waiter asked whether we were not happy with it. Great proactive seeking of customer feedback! Much better service than most expensive restaurants. Very attentive waiters ensured constantly whether we wanted to refill our chai. Great price and delicious tastes. Very comprehensive menus. beautiful atmosphere. Servers are all polite, friendly, attentive, and helpful. More than highly recommended.

5 Stars: FOOD & DECOR (by LATODALLA)

I had my second dining experience at Electric Karma this past weekend. Having discovered this place earlier this year, I was looking forward to a return visit. This place has definitely found its groove and is a bright colorful addition to the area. The menu is inventive and a welcome departure from the ordinary. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area [near the beverly center. I certainly plan to return again.

5 Stars: romatic restaurant (by mikeindia)

My boyfriend took me to electric karma last night for my birthday. I'm very picky with restaurants, but this one was absolutely wonderful! The service was incredible! Everyone from the car valet to the gentleman that opened the door for us to the waiters to, our main waiter were extremely courteous, friendly and punctual. We had fresh samosa for an appetizer, chicken nirvana and fish tikka with great wine for an entree, and an amazing warm gulab jamun for dessert. Everything was extremely tasty! And the ambience of the restaurant is so romantic, the tables are well-spaced for more privacy in the back patio, candles and flowers everywhere (we sat in the back patio on pillows), and great buddha-bar style music in the background. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

1 Stars: Why Americanize ethnic food (by riaji)

Americanized Indian Food....I dont like the bland affair. is there anybody Indian in the kitchen, I doubt it. The flavors, the presentation, the aromas are more tex mex than Indian. Trust me, I know Indian food after living in London for a few years. This place is a money minter in the disguise of Indian restaurant.

1 Stars: WORST SERVICE AND INDIAN FOOD IN L.A (by rubmatel)

When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought "Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends," but I was wrong. The food was sub average at best (I could get the same Samosa and Pakoras at any higher end any indianmarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It was extremely frustrating gaining the attention of the servers, they were just hanging aroud the Bar. Some of am playing around the computer. though I frequently called for them making pleading eye gestures, waving, even calling out to them directly, all to no avail. Even as the servers passed by me and made eye contact, they kept moving on. We had to ask for our bill three times and only got it after complaining that we had asked so many times and had been waiting up to half an hour. I will definitely never come here again.

1 Stars: dylan (by subina)

Either people were paid to give these positive reviews or they simply don't know what real indian food is. First off, the place feels almost claustophobic and cramped. Our table was located next to the bar. Not a good spot. Then again, i didnt see any good tables anyways. Our waiter was annoying, why do people feel the need to put on an act and try to come across as AMERICAN when they are not. Wine was ok, just your average pino grigio. The food itself wasn't really close of even being average. It just wasn't good. Bad day? Maybe. Maybe not. In the end, we couldn't wait to be done and leave.

5 Stars: Awesome CS, Best Indian Food in Town (by pianoman52)

I've had bad luck with Indian restaurants in Orange County. They were either boring or didn't taste authentic too much. So I started searching for Indian restuarants in LA on citysearch. I read about this place and based on the reviews, i decided to check it out. I came, I saw, i Burped satisfaction. The place was elegant, romantic and very homely. A definite must go to spot for anyone craving A++++ Indian food. Another great thing is that the owner of the restaurant mingles with the customers for a few to make sure you're happy with the service and what you ordered.

i had my 25th birthday there last week, i booked the whole patio for 30 guests.
i called a couple of days ahead to preset the menu. the owner gave me the freedom to choose the dishes i wanted to serve to my guests. it was a delicious feast with various dishes like, chicken kebab, samosa, fish pakora, tandoori shrimp salad, nirvana chicken and much more.
the preset menu included appetizer, main course, naan, rice, side orders and a cocktail.
in the end everybody was really happy and satisfied.

5 Stars: yummy yummy yummy, try it! (by arschficker)

From: Mr. Edward

Dear all,
I have been to many Indian Restaurants around the world, it is absolutely by far my favorite cuisine.
In no other cuisine worldwide are so many spices used in various different ways.
At Electric Karma, they seem to know how to combine thousands of spices to make a delicious dish.
The Nirvana Chicken is the one Dish that makes me go back to Electric Karma again and again.
Never anywhere else have i tried a Dish like this one.
Mmmmmmmm yummy yummy yummy
PS: Reserve a table in the Open-Air Patio!!!!

5 Stars: A Wonderful Place to Relax from daily stress Life (by experto)

Recommended to me by my friends in L.A. We wondered into the World of Electric Karma.
Its a beautiful place with an Open-Air Patio, where we dined on pillows with three of my best friends from Germany.
The food was rich in spices, my favorite dish there was the Fish Tandoori.
At the end of the Night they told me that there is no Indian Restaurant like this one in Frankfurt.
They liked the food very much, were amazed by the ambience and happy with the Service.
I will for sure continue to go back to Electric Karma with other friends
(Great place to relax!!!!)

1 Stars: Yuck! (by rae92583)

We tried this place on a friend's recommendation, but were terribly disappointed. We love Indian food and always get chicken tandoori, cheese naan, aloo mataar, and samosas, but the food here was unlike any other Indian food we've ever had, and not in a good way. Most frustrating was that we ordered to go without looking at the menu and despite that there are 3 specials containing the items we got for a much more decent price, we were charged full price for all items and the waiter didn't even suggest the specials on the menu. The tandoori chicken was flat out burned and even the rice wasn't right. I can see how people would like the atmosphere, but it doesn't even come close to making up for the poor cuisine. We'll be sticking to our other local options. Please note that I don't work for either of these restaurants, but we much prefer Bollywood in Studio City, and Star of India on Melrose is pretty good on that side of the hill. If you're looking for good Indian food I would definitely recommend one of those over Electric Karma.

1 Stars: worst customer service I have ever experienced! (by artnfoodlover)

After dining at electric karma many times, I have to say that my last experience will be my final. This is a shame because the atmosphere and food was a favorite of mine for dates and indian food cravings alike. We were served by two very impatient managers who did not want to explain anything on the menu when asked politely, and when our food came rather then setting it down nicely in front of us they just handed the hot plates to our bare hands. Having a background in customer service and restaurants, I couldn't believe the way they were treating us. They never came back to refill our drinks or ask how the food was, and made it very obvious that they couldn't wait for us to leave. I do not know if the owner is aware that his management/waitstaff are serving valuable paying customers this way, but when I tried to talk to the manager I got yelled at to go somewhere else and that he did not care about my business to the restaurant. He also made it a point to belittle me by saying that I have no knowledge in the service industry and that I need to go back to school even though little to his knowledge do I have over 12 years customer service experience in 5 star facilities. I hope that the owner takes this review into consideration and replaces the horrible staff that is running his restaurant into the ground.

1 Stars: Worst Service Ever!!!!!!!!! (by IndianFoodie)

This used to be my favorite Indian Resteraunt in LA, and as an Indian myself, I am quite critical. I have held many parties at their location, ordered take out all the time, and refer people there all the time as well. The past couple experiences I have overlooked the rude service, but I recently threw a party there for a birthday with a large group of friends who have never been there. They all told me seperatly that this was the worst service they have ever expeienced. The plates of food were thrown at guests without any effort to even place dishes on the table, leftovers all thrown together, a rude tone to guests when requesting anything nicely as well. A friend lost a very expensive item there and they were more concerned about their staff who were sleeping on the seating where we ate the night before, then even attempting to look for it. The last party I had their similar attitude given by management . None of us are fussy or demanding customers so there was no reason for this kind of treatment. The entire staff is not this way, but the managers are and that is where the problem lies.

5 Stars: Favorite Indian Food in LA (by KatieHillUSC)

I love Indian food and have been to a number of restaurants in LA, but Electric Karma is definitely my favorite. It's an excellent location for a date. The lighting and atmosphere are very romantic. I recommend sitting on the patio, you have the option of sitting very low to the ground with plush pillows behind you. It's actually very comfortable and makes for a relaxed dining experience! And the mural on the wall is mesmerizing. We took recommendations from the waiter and he knew the menu cover to cover! He had some great suggestions, particularly when it came to appetizers. For the main event, my boyfriend went with Chicken Tikka and I had one of the special spicy shrimp curry dishes. Both were excellent. The portions are ideal for sharing. Everything is also very reasonably priced, it fit our budget as college students! A great overall experience.

4 Stars: Good Indian Food, Nice Staff (by joanovarq)

I've been to Electric Karma around 5 times and the food is great. I'm very fond of their saag, vindaloo and tikka masala dishes; the vegetarian dishes were good too. The portions are on the smaller side and everything is a-la-carte. It's a nice place to go for a work lunch. At dinnertime, they broadcast Bollywood music videos on the wall -- once I went with my boyfriend and he was ignoring me in favor of the gyrating Bollywood dancers! Parking, however, is an issue -- as is the case with any restaurant on Third Street.

4 Stars: I liked it (by jessmcd)

I had dinner here with a group of friends a few weeks ago. We had a large group and they placed us at table directly under the glow of the Bollywood TV. It was a fun distraction, and a great conversation piece. The food was yummy and the waiter was patient with our large group. We asked him for help selecting a wine and he was very accommodating - bringing us a good bottle of inexpensive wine that was a great match for the Masala.

5 Stars: Best Indian food in the world...including India (a bit subjective as I have never been) (by mrobs)

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant just before we were off to see "Wicked" at Pantages. We were quickly seated and promptly served with plenty of time for the show. I did not want to leave however, as I dug the atmosphere and the food was excellent. I went a more traditional route with the Chicken Tiki Masala (which was the best I've ever had) with a side of Nan. My girlfriend explored with a vegetarian combination plate (in which she picked and choose what she would be eating). There was so much food, I would recommend bringing your appetite or a group in which you can all share. All in all, every time I come up to LA from SD, it will become a mandatory stop, if not the reason for the trip entirely.

5 Stars: Romantic, happening, and fun. One of the best Indian experiences ever! (by adamgator)

I found this place just walking down third street. After reading some reviews, I gave it a try. The rest is history! This place is a must when I have out-of-town company. It's a great date spot. A young crowd - upper 20's-40's but fine for age 40+.

I love "traditional" Indian establishments. However, this is not one of them. The food had new twists & flavors and the decor and atmosphere are trendy and happening. The outer room is well decorated with romantic lighting. Gone are the white table cloths and glass tops/windex smell of traditional Indian places. Staff take good care of you, but also give you space for conversation. They don't rush you out. The music is also much more happening than your traditional Indian restaurant. They play a mix of songs and styles - not the same tracks on repeat.

The back room/patio is very romantic -- tables are low to the floor. You sit on pillows around the tables. Candles add to the mood. Very cool! Yes, there are heaters (this is LA). Do the patio at least once! Can do bigger groups on the patio too.

The decor would probably be enough, but the food is what really brings me back. Traditional dishes on the menu as well as things I've never heard of - and I've had a lot of Indian food across the US anyway. Even the "familiar" dishes are a little different that your run-of-the-mill indian place... and for the better. They avoid transfats and ghee - but tastes just as good. Vegetarian & vegan friendly! From the chutneys to the main course, new and fun tastes. Great samosa and nan - cool new types like olive nan and cheese filled nan along with traditional flavors. The Mali Kofta special (not on the menu) is awesome. So is the Gobi Franki. And the Matar Paneer, and the Dosa, and the Palak Paneer, and Tofu (or Paneer) Tiki Masala. Ok, I like everything. I have to keep bring more people to branch out and try new dishes. Variety of rices - black, brown and white. This is a must try - you'll be back!

i thought, i would never take my time to write a review, but i dont want anyone to miss out on this place...
not only the food is good but also, once you walk inside, you are taken into the beautiful world of "Electric Karma." my favorite place in restaurant is the patio where you can dine on soft pillows. another good thing is the atmosphere, with the right mix of music.
we had a large birthday for my friend in the patio, which was like a fun fiesta.
favorite dishes: samosa, nirvana chicken, fish tandoori and cheese naan
you must try their mojito or sangria

5 Stars: An Electric Night at Electric Karma (by bibiyan26)

I recently visited Electric Karma with my girlfriend on a Friday night. I must say I have been to many restaurants from Mediterannean to Korean Barbeque but none has captured my every sense like this restaurant. The atmosphere is one of a kind mixing together calm relaxing music in a mix of candle light, dim lighting, and comfortable seating arrangements inside and on the patio. Although I am not the biggest fan of wine myself, my girlfriend told me the wine selection was amazing and she truly enjoyed the trip. I would recommend the restaurant to any young to middle-aged individuals looking for a relaxing time and truly delicious food. An unforgettable experience!

2 Stars: Electric Karma needs to pay their utility bill. Lights are on, but no one is home... (by mhb1954)

I went because the ratings made the place sound great. Sorry. It wasn't. The service was good at the beginning when there weren't many patrons. We ordered a couple of dishes that the waiter recommended as very good. The dishes were very bland and not all that tasty. Then the service went downhill and we had to ask for to-go boxes a couple times, them we had to ask for our check several times. We never got the check, so we got up and on the way out our waiter passed by us and thanked us for coming by. We said, we''d like to pay you and if we have to wait much longer, we won't pay! When we got the check, it was incorrect: too many drinks charged. We paid and left the place, and we don't expect to go back. Gate of India still rules, IMHO. Thanks.

4 Stars: Cozy, Chill and Great Indian Food (by radiancelee)

From the same owners as the fabulous All India Cafe on Santa Monica Blvd, Electric Karma doesn't disappoint. The Chicken Jalfrezzi is so delectable, my mouth is still watering from each bite an hour after the meal. I am happy the portion was big enough so I can enjoy my leftovers of that dish for lunch tomorrow. The red/orange walls, warmly candlelit atmosphere is cozy, especially when seated on the comfy pillows in the backroom and dining "floor tables" indian style. The music derives mostly from Bollywood musicals and adds nicely to the patio with the little waterfall sounds. Service is slow, but not unfriendly. Recommend!

I have dined at EC four times now, and I have thought the same thing each time. The food is pretty good, and the service is painfully slow and annoying with all the upselling (constant urging for us to have more wine or order the special rice). The ambiance is lovely, especially in the outdoor cushion-seating area at night. EC is worth going to for a nice group dining experience. I would even go for lunch if there was a buffet like most Indian restaurants have. There aren't any real standout dishes, but everything I have tried has been good

5 Stars: Full of Flavor and Great Ambiance (by seek)

Food is very tasty and full of flavor. I would recommend the naan and if you are a vegetarian there is a large selection of veggie dishes. Owner is very friendly and came up to us to ask us how our food was and chat with us. Environment is urban, hip, full of people, and at the same time not overcrowded. Appeared to be a nice place to bring a date or to have a large dinner party, as that is what we observed. We went in the evening and experienced Bollywood on a large screen with romantic, dim lighting. We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends.

5 Stars: Electric Karma Is The Best (by dwallace3)

I love Indian food, and Electric Karma has the best best best Indian food in Los Angeles. This is the most authentic food I have had in LA, and I have gone to many Indian restaurants. You have to try the Nirvana Chicken with Milk Sauce - it is amazing!

1 Stars: Avoid At All Cost!!!!! (by mtid123)

I went to Electric Karma for my birthday celebration. I wanted to have a fun new experience and sit on the floor and maybe even eat with my hands!! When we arrived, they were not kind or inviting. The atmosphere was nice, but the restaurant was so dark that I couldn't read the menu well. We did end up sitting on the ground which was cozy but when my husband asked about eating with our hands, the waiter responded, "You can eat however you want, i just bring you your food" and then proceeded to lecture us about why people eat with their hands. We were in shock!! Needless to say, we didn't eat with our hands. Later on when ordering other drinks rather than water, my friend stated that she would just have water and the waiter said "It's already in front of you on the table." What??? And when someone tried to order Chicken Curry, she asked if was the tomato or coconut based curry to which our lovely waiter responded with " the descriptions are on the menu and you can read those." Again, WHAT?? We were in so much shock, we didn't know what to do. I have never experience such rude service. I will never go back to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to anyone. we were there with a group of 7 and the service was horrible. The food was okay, but that waiter ruined the whole evening with his behavior.

5 Stars: Love the delivery! (by njacroux)

It seems that the only time I eat Indian food is when I order delivery for a small party. There are about 20 Indian places that deliver and I have always been a bit disappointed but once I found Electric Karma i have been very pleased. Since then I have been ordering a combo at least once every other week.

5 Stars: Very charming atmosphere, delicious Indian cuisine, never dissapointing. (by ballege)

Electric Karma is so unbelievably charming! It is gorgeous inside - totally zen and very warm. You can choose to sit at a table or you can choose to sit on the floor atop big fluffy cushions and have your food served to you there. If you go on a busy night like Friday or Sat there will be a live band that will play Indian style music - very relaxing. A remarkable dining experience! Make sure to have a mango lassy or some nand because no indian dinning experience is complete without those two things - but at Electric Karma they are especially yummy! ELectric Karma is my favorite Indian restaurant in all of LA!

3 Stars: It's Ok (by ladougg)

I wasn't particularly impressed with this restaurant although their Indian Sangria was quite tasty. The lamb biryiani was pretty good but a little pricey I thought. The decor is very nice and is a good place for either a date or party. The service was a little slow too. There are better Indian restaurants in LA but you could certainly do worse.

4 Stars: Great combination of atmosphere and food (by nrkrish)

Just got back after having dinner with some friends at Electric Karma. I'm Indian so am usually suspicious of most "Indian" restaurants as the food tends to be a little "catered" to the western palate. I went there because of the good reviews on this site. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was really lively - there was a true-to-form Bollywood movie playing on a big screen and the decor was quite festive. The "Indian sangria" (first time I've heard of it!) was actually quite decent. The food was very tasty - spicy enough without being too hot and the naan bread was well made. I guess what finally made the night was a good ol' LA star sighting - Jennifer Love Hewitt (+ her boyfriend, I guess) decided to sit in the table right next to us!

5 Stars: Yum & Fun (by ladiner1970)

Electric Karma is inexpensive with really good food. The interior courtyard is fun and a pretty fantastic setting for lunch or dinner. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The one caveat is Surya is just a few blocks east on Third and has better food... the difference in quality might be lost on your average person but for a connoisseur of Indian cuisine it is undeniable. That said, if you want good food in a fun atmosphere Electric Karma is hard to beat.

5 Stars: Beautiful patio and excellent food (by slimtherobot)

i've eaten here four or five times over the past year and it has gotten better and better each time i've gone. i went the other night for dinner and was reminded of how beautiful and romantic the back patio is at night - soft pillows on persian rugs, open air roof/canopy, small fountain, and candles galore. it is the perfect place to go on a date. the inside is also nice, but the patio is wonderful on a warm evening. the food was also unbelievable. we had the lamb karhai and were really pleased with the delicate flavors, perfect spice, and tender lamb. the ingredients are really fresh and well put together and the dishes don't leave you feeling over-full or heavy. overall, an excellent meal in a lovely setting.

I never really liked Indian food until I discovered Electric Karma. The BEST chicken Tikka Masala in town! I crave this dish. With ALL natural spices this is your best bet. The staff is friendly and the trip to Bollywood is classic. Don't miss their Sangria. Whether you dine with one friend or 12, this is the place to go for great food and a fun atmoshphere.

3 Stars: Overpriced (by girlygirlla)

1 Stars: Ca-ta-stro-phe!!! (by zarbazan)

Please, please avoid this pretentious mediocrity. The only good things about "Electric Karma" are its name and ambiance. Extremely rude service right from the door ( don't expect the waitress to show up at your table more often than once every 45 min either) tasteless curry and tikka masala (the veggy entries were also very poorly made), and an extremely oversalted lassy (I asked the waitress to exchange it for another one with less salt in it and after 15-20 minutes of waiting got a drink with exactly the same proportions-impossible to drink let alone enjoy). That is all I remember from that dinner. Never ever would I step in that crappy joint. Too bad, it is located in such a nice neighborhood.

The first time I went, the food was pretty good and the service was fine, but the real draws were the ambience and the cocktails - the mango Indian sangria and the Indian mojitos are exceptional. However, the second time I went, everything was excellent, and there were eight of us sharing a variety of dishes.
