In Short
Celebrity endorsements cover the walls, and tourists, musicians and actor/model regulars rub elbows at communal tables or the counter. The diner-staple menu features 60-odd sandwiches and burgers, plus meat loaf, salads and pork chops with applesauce. But it's breakfast that really sizzles: Omelettes come with multiculti fillings like kosher salami and chutney. Blintzes and corned beef hash are hefty and homemade, and health-conscious diners can opt for egg-white scrambles and fresh fruit.

Key Points

  • Order On Line
  • On the famous Sunset Strip
  • Vegan and Vegetarian Options

The Inside Scoop

  1. Look Good - Duke's is located at what used to be London Fog, a club where the Doors played nightly in the mid '60s. For more rock-and-roll history, head next door to the legendary Whisky A Go-Go.
  2. Parking - Can't find a spot on Sunset? Park in the lot behind the restaurant for $1, with validation.

Amazing patty melts and great fries! The breakfast selection is also quite extensive. The atmosphere is fun and pictures of celebs are posted on the walls. 4 Stars!

Duke's is a favorite for all the work peeps here in West Hollywood. The burgers are great. Breakfast food is awesome (love the french toast). And they even make a good chili.

Ratings_icons classic diner

How an you not love this place? An all around LA classic! Great breakfast anytime of day and the remodel is beautiful. Good burgers too and amazing staff. Very bright inside. Better choice than Norm's or even Mel's in my opinion.

Pros: great breakfast anytime of the day

Cons: parking

Ratings_icons Ok food, Bad Experience

kharm11

My girl and I went for breakfast Saturday late morning. We placed our order with one waitress while 2 waiters alternated in taking care of us. I ordered the mexican scramble (chorizo and eggs with potatoes) my girl got an omelette. Our food took 30 mins at the least to get to us and its because they forgot to put in our order. I could see the cook making the meals and everyone getting served EXCEPT us. When I told one of our waiters he started to pipe up with an excuse but never finished and took off. He never returned to tell us the status of our order, instead the other waiter came up to us concerned and asked if everything was ok. We told him we hadnt gotten our food in over 30 mins he rushed to the cook and i could see the cook barely starting to whip up our order. It was done in no time but by that time I was so turned off on this place. I thought this place was going to be really good since they have been around for a while and had a citysearch sticker for Best Breakfast. Seriously people?? Im not super picky but they had basic items on their menu and they weren't that great for what u pay. I am officially labeling this place a tourist trap and warning you all to stay away and try something better like Joey's in weho or Hugo's. If you want simple breakfast items like they serve at Dukes ONLY done the right way for less you can get it at Norm's. That's saying a lot casuse I hate Norm's but I would have rather gone there at that point.

Oh and then to top it off, they gave us the wrong check! The waitress, yup same one that forgot to put in our order, comes over to tell us we are "so lucky" that the other couple got the wrong check cause we saved 3 dollars on sub par food. Thanks lady I feel bad for the other couple.

Pros: Location on the strip

Cons: Overpriced for the food you get

Ratings_icons Still an attraction on the weekend

nathanfish

weekday lunches are uncrowded, service is good and prices are great. I would recommend dressing on the side if you get the Chinese Chicken salad.

Pros: large portions, decent prices

Cons: can be crowded on weekends

Ratings_icons Splurge a little and get better bacon

crazijoe

I ate there for the first time because of all the hype about it. I really liked the eggs and the potatoes, but the coffee wasn't that great and the bacon was dry. I would probably go back living in the city but i'll bring my own bacon and coffee next time. Note: get center cut Oscar Meyer Bacon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Pros: see some famous people

Cons: terrible bacon

Ratings_icons Great atmosphere.

Just went here for the first time last week and liked it a lot. Very hole-in-the-wall looking, which I enjoyed, as well as their food. The old school decorations and randomly placed bar make it a fun late night place to eat. Thumbs up!

Ratings_icons Yummy Greasy Spoon

Duke's is a good spot in the middle of the Sunset scene for reliable and tasty diner food. There is no ambiance. They have old (grimy looking) music posters on the walls. The joint could use a face lift but with diner food this tasty, they can get away with it. The patty melt is delicious and the crinkle cut fries don't disapponint. I haven't tried the eggs yet but heard they are great at Duke's. Co-workers of mine saw Paris Hilton here not too long ago.

Ratings_icons A Good Solid Coffeshop

svantico

Duke's is likely an institution on the strip. Far from glitzy, it serves up tasty food on very average dinnerware and tables.

If you are in the mood for a good, solid, uncomplicated meal, give Duke's a try. I've had lunch there a couple of times with big groups and we always order breakfast foods. I am partial to the omelettes.

Ratings_icons Funky spot on the Strip

famousblueraincoat

This is a cute old school diner in the middle of the Sunset Strip. It's good for greasy spoon-style American breakfasts. There's all sorts of rock n' roll memorabilia on the walls. It's an unlikely spot to see celebs, but some friends saw Nicky Hilton there once. I'm sure others come in as well because of the location.

Pros: nice servers, food comes fast, funky vibe

Cons: kind of greasy, parking

Ratings_icons Terrible Service

leschnei

Duke's is your typical greasy spoon. The food is decent but the service is terrible. I dined here with a coworker recently and the waiter did not bring his entire order. We had to hail him over and ask him for the rest of the food.

Cons: Terrible service

Ratings_icons My frequent diner

jericsmall

Am a regular lunch patron with the work crowd here, so much that they know our special orders. The staff smiles when we come in, and gets to us right away...a treatment not reserved only for the regulars either, by the way. The food is great ... for a diner of course. My faves are the pancake special and the basic grilled cheese with fries.

Pros: Occasional celeb sightings

Ratings_icons C'mon this place is seedy with perfection

lu_vu

There is no better diner experience this side of Witchita. With the posters of yester-year rockers to the cranky wait staff, this is the place to get eggs, hashbrowns and a piece of 90069. Nestled on the busy-busy of Sunset strip, you're bound to see an ex-celeb stoll in for a stack of pancakes. A great place with solid food and open when you need them

Cons: parking's hard to get

Ratings_icons Lunch is eh

tyneshad

Everytime I've been here for lunch the service has been a bit gruff and the food hasn't really been all that great. It's typical diner fare without much flavor, if you ask me. I hear their breakfast is better, maybe I'll give that a try soon.

Ratings_icons West Hollywood Goes Dive

tychovski

History aside, it's a decent little greasy spoon. The selection is American, food is prepared well and quickly. Service is a bit gruff, but you get the feeling that's what they're going for. The downside for me however is the atrocious coffee. Skipping that, a decent meal can be had quickly without breaking the bank.

Pros: Quick good food.

Cons: Street parking only.

Ratings_icons Any time is the right time for breakfast

katz_in_town

I have no idea what in the hell they do to a cheese omelet but it is really tasty, I know, it's just a cheese omelet. Although, I wouldn't suggest any omelets with to many veggies, pretty watery but that can happen anywhere. The hash brown/home fries are hit or miss depending on how you like them and from what area off the grill you get them. The brisket sandwhich is good, not like Grandma's brisket but hey, it's just a diner but a real good one.

Ratings_icons Great Breakfasts

msb1021

You can't go wrong with breakfast at a diner, I know. However, Duke's has a huge selection of freshly made meals and a really nice staff to get it for you. The restaurant is spacious and there's alot of autographed memoribilia to enjoy while dining in.

Ratings_icons Good for breakfast

netter1

Duke's is a great neighborhood staple, especially for breakfast. There aren't that many places to get a good breakfast in the few blocks around my office. A lot of friends love the breakfast burrito, but I'm a lover of the Spinach Special - Durango Style when I need a change from the yogurt & fruit breakfast I usually have. The staff is always friendly even if they're often rushed and time is at a minimum.

Pros: quick service, local delivery

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Ratings_icons Good breakfasts-waitresses with attitude!

brucew001

I've been to Dukes quite a few times and love their breakfasts. The waitresses can be a bit fussy, or even arrogant. But the breakfasts are great. Big omelettes with sides of potatoes and toast that keep you full for hours. Pancakes very good too.

Pros: great omelettes, good pancakes

Ratings_icons Great breakfast, also a celeb hangout

jgreenb1

I had breakfast there last week and really enjoyed the experience. Thier dining room has huge tables and thier motto is Nobody is a stranger at Duke's. I saw a few celebs and industry folks come and go. Although it's a little hard to find, I actually drove right past it, it's worth finding for a good, inexpensive breakfast.

Pros: Food, Service, People watching
