for the person who couldn't travel to LA, he also goes to NYC & Washington D.C. In regards to the person who had a horrible experience - let me just say that though she was correct in describing the rotation of women in chairs, make no mistake, he is in complete control of the situation - he's like a symphony conductor orchestrating and delegating, and not missing a thing. Don't let his casual demeanor fool you- he is a perfectionist who delights in making women look beautiful. His assistant Edna does place some color as directed by Michael, but he is still the artist and does most of the hands on stuff himself. Though Edna is very talented in her own right, she takes a supporting role and has been working at his side for years. I've been to other world class colorists in NYC and this is standard operating procedure. She must have been hormonal or having a bad day and did not give them a chance. Had she stayed, she would have loved her hair. In fact , Michael is so busy and so nice that I'm sure if she showed up again , he wouldn't even recall her poor behavior and if he did, he wouldn't let it bother him because he's a professional.
Now for the good stuff: when I went to him for the first time, I brought an obnoxiously large pile of photos of celebrity hair that I admired. However, I also conceded that I came a long way for HIS professional opinion, and that I was willing to try his recommendations. If you're going to the salon to try and micromanage how he should do your hair, then save your money and give your instructions to a local beauty school student. At the initial consult, he told me what he thought would look best, considering not just my natural haircolor, but also my skin tone etc.... And he did all of the foils. It looked absolutely amazing. I got many compliments from people who wanted to know what I had done to make my hair look so shiny/glossy and that the color looked so natural etc...
Today I went for the second time (total travel time with horrible DC traffic to my town round trip: 7 hours) and it Was STILL ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! I have medium blonde hair (mousey) and this time Edna applied some of the foils in back while Michael still did most of the highlighting foils. He then gave specific instructions to his other wonderful assistant Audrey, as she shampooed and applied "The Gloss". The overall effect on my hair is even better today than the first time- MAGIC! We women know that when our hair looks fantastic, it makes our day.
Also be sure to follow up with amazing cut and blow dry by either Mesut or Jimmy ( owners of the Violet Salon in DC) Today Mesut styled it, and I felt like I was red carpet ready! Last time I had Jimmy cut and style and I am just as happy with him.
I would like to say that I have NEVER written a review for anything before........BUT, I MUST share one of the most horrific experiences I have ever had. Over 1 month ago, I made an appointment with Michael Canele, at Violet Salon in Georgetown. I had been going to Bernard at Okyo for over 10 years, but he moved away from the area so I have been in search for someone for highlights. I kept running across the name ??Michael Canale? and even though I didn??t like the almost $400.00 price I decided to try him. I arrived about 15 minutes early and the receptionist said he would be ready in about 5 minutes. At my appointment time they called me into his area where at least 4 women were in various stages of color services. having coloring of some type and seem to be playing musical chairs ?? along with his 4 ??assistants?.
While he is working on someone else he asks what I was looking to do in so start to explain, he didn??t seem to like my answer so he asked I look through some magazine for what I had in mind. I have dark hair and looking for a very ??natural look? ?? didn??t think that was too difficult. However, I did find a few ideas and named a few celebrities for more ideas; and of course he does ALL of their colors!!!!!!
So, I am sitting next to him for more than an hour and I think I must be at a cocktail party ?? NOT a hair salon. His 4 ??assistants? seem to be very busy doing the highlights and color, he on the other hand is at Happy Hour. So I finally move to my 3rd seat and one of the ??assistants? comes over with a bowl and brush and wants to start coloring my hair. Remember this is my first time and no one has said what they think/will do. I was obviously unhappy, so the assistant asks if I wanted to ??wait for Michael???????? Isn??t that who my appointment is with? So after another 15 minutes of listening to him tell another person he was voted ??the best colorist in the world? another magazine (his EXACT words)??he tells me ??if he is going to do my hair, then he will do it his way, not my way?. His way being his assistant applying the highlights and he only doing the very front.
Needless to say, I was absolutely speechless and beyond shocked!!! I said I came for his service and expertise not his ??assistants?; as this was my FIRST appointment, I didn??t think that was unreasonable. I immediately changed and left.
OMG who is this person? I am pretty certain he hasn??t found a cure for Cancer or solved world hunger?.he DOES HAIR!!!!!!! The other folks who worked at the Salon (Violet) didn??t seem much better. You would believe they are doing me a favor by taking my money. I will NEVER return!!!!
I don??t care how ??legendary? someone believes himself to be this is NOT how people should be treated. ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE
Michael colored my hair for years when i lived in washington, d.c., and it always looked amazing. at the end of the 90's, i moved back to my home state, and bounced around to various people--never with the same results. when i moved to ny 3 years ago, i was so happy to start seeing michael again! i can't tell you the amount of compliments i get on my hair.
as for the person that was dissatisfied with the location from which he works in ny--i will just say that there are plenty of fancier salons in ny where you can go, and for a surely higher price than michael charges, you can get an assistant, or a 5-years out of beauty school "expert" to willingly color your hair surrounded by luxurious digs, plenty of sycophantic attitude, and mediocre ability. talk about odd priorities! michael is a gently soul but does not suffer fools gladly, and i suspect that had something to do with that experience...the customer is always right--most of the time. but based on your boundary-less feedback (overweight? wtf does that have anything to do with haircolor?!), i suspect that michael was on to you, and saved himself all but the headache of your negative feedback.
I just went to Canale to get my color done by Michael like I always do, but today I decided to have a blow dry after and I saw the new guy James Peter. OMG I look sexy, my hair is unbelievable. Normally my hair is stick straight and blah but today I feel like a model!! Seriously, my hair looks like i should be doing a photo shoot! James Peter is a hair god, and cute as hell
I asked for three inches off with long layers.(My hair was waist length) When my haircut was finished they styled my hair so I couldn't tell until later that night when I got home how messed up it was. One side is three inches shorter than the other. The "layers" look like they were done with a weed whacker. There's a spot on one side that isn't even layered it looks like there's just a big chunk missing. It is a lot shorter than I wanted. The majority of it is about 8 inches shorter than it was. I can't even look at it because I will start crying again. It's going to take me at least a year to get it back to the length I wanted it to be. (see photo)

I think this place is just fabulous. Basically, it became famous b/c Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt had the owner, Michael Canale, do their hair color before their wedding day. I went here twice while in LA and had my highlights done by his assistant - the service was great. It's right off of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills but the people there couldn't be nicer and more down to earth and the service is so exceptional. So what if the salon is not very 'fancy' or newly decorated? I love going to this place and it is almost worth the trip to LA!
PROS: Friendly staff, Great quality of service
CONS: Place could be renovated a bit
Michael is simply a genius with color! He's colored my hair for about 20 years and I always walk out with happy hair.
Edna and James are absolutely great.
p.s.The Michael I know is kind and caring
I love Canale Salon! Best place ever!
Michael Canale, Edna and James are absolutely great and they are the best! My hair is very dark and difficult. I moved from TX to LA in 1996. I couldn't find anybody to do my highlights until I found Canale Salon in 1998. I went to a several places before I found Canale and every place ruined my hair. I am so happy with my hair and highlights since I have been going to Canale.
Michael is full of good energy and everyone at Canale are so nice and very friendly.
If you want to have the perfect hair... GO to Canale!
This review is strictly on the pompous disrespectful attitude of the owner Michael Canale. (Edna and James are absolutely wonderful!) \r
I was at the salon on Thursday, April 12, 2012 for my monthly color touch-up. As I was sitting underneath the ""special blow dryer"" , the owner (arrogant Canale) tells Edna to move me because his over-botoxed, under nourished, and equally rude client needed the same blow dryer. I do not blame Edna, afterall she is a salon employee. However, Mr. Canale, blatantly made it clear that his clients have priority over anybody else in that salon. \r
When I enter any establishment in which I am paying for the services being rendered upon me, I expect to be treated with respect and not like a second class citizen.\r
Mr. Canale is arrogant, disrespectful, loud, and obnoxious.\r
I have chosen not to return to Canale Salon because I refuse to give my hard-earned money to that overbearing man.
For me, hair is a big deal. I have waist length, thick, highlighted hair and I work hard at keeping it healthy. Thus, when I moved out to LA my first thought was ""WHO WILL HIGHLIGHT?!"" After asking a friend, I made an appointment with Edna. Let me say...best decision ever.
She does a phenomenal. job. The color is always what i want, and most importantly, always looks NATURAL. It also grows out beautifully so that I don't even start to notice that I need a touch up for about three months.
Now on to cut. I've only been to James once, but again, what a fabulous job. It was simple, but exactly what i wanted.
Besides the obvious talent though, the atmosphere is really worth coming back for. As someone mentioned, just because this is a high profile place doesn't mean the people who work there are snobs. James, Edna, and all the assistants are soooo lovely to talk to and really make an effort to make you feel comfortable. Additionally, every time I see Michael there he always seems to be quite lovely!
I came to James at Canale through a Kerastase promotion and have been coming back for cuts and styling ever since! He is so talented but still down-to-earth. James' haircuts are wonderful - he truly knows how to cut based upon your hair type and face shape. And he does the BEST blow outs to boot. He is a gem!
Located right across from the Montage on Canon, you can park in the public parking and grab some breakfast or lunch at Bouchon Bakery, now too, an added perk!
Give Canale and James a try, and you'll keep coming back.
A happy, fun environment. Good energy!
Michael always does a flawless job and he is a pleasure to be around. His assistants are lovely! And the rest of the hair dressers are awesome too.
James gives a great hair cut and style. Natalie works wonders for blow outs! I love this salon and the way my hair smells after the gloss! :) I seriously feel made over after an appointment! The location is great as well.
Where do I begin, I got the mens scalp treatment and I am going to make that a regular ritual. Afterwards Michael colored my hair and I looked amazing. I like having natural looking hair and I know I get this every time I come here. This was only my second visit and I think I am going in monthly, If not more often for the Scalp ritual, an assistant named Amanda did my treatment and she rocks. The treatment is meant to help clean the scalp and help thicken my hair, so I highly recommend it. The place is awesome, just don't expect to walk out with punky color hair, Michael is all about the natural look.
Michael knows hair! I only get the best of the best when it comes to coloring my hair and michael is definitely the best! He knew exactly what to do with my hair within 5 minutes of me being standing infront on him! it's like a little hair angel was in his ear hehe! then after that I got an amazing hair cut from James who is also a genius! I feel like i didn't just get a good hair cut and color, I also made a few new friends!
Michael is a genius with coloring! my hair has never looked better! His assistant amanda is such a sweet heart! i had such a good time! i can't wait to come back! if you've never gotten your hair done here you are missing out! it's not just a new hair dew, it's like a day hanging out with the family! top notch service!
Michael is the sweetest guy ever! not to mention his magical hair powers! I will forever be grateful for what he did to my hair! I never thought it would look so amazing. and james is great too! not to mention that he's definitely quite the cutie!! ;D
This entire hair experience was amazing! both michael and James are amazing at what they do! if u want the best hair experience of your life come to this salon! Minutes after walking into this salon i already felt like i was old friends with all the employees! it makes me wanna mess up my hair just to have a reason to come back! hehe
Of course you can go in and just get The World's Best Hair Color, but if you want to walk out the door looking like a million dollars, get James to cut and style your hair. He and Michael Canale are the A-Team. James looks at your face, has you stand so he can get a sense of your proportions (Don't want hair that visually drags you down), and gets to work on Your hair. I haven't seen him repeat a 'look' on consecutive customers; everyone just looks great when he finishes.\r
A word about Canale. Yes, Heidi Klum does go there. Yes, Jennifer You-Know-Who is a customer, but as a long-time Beverly Hills hair salon customer, I want to compliment this salon on its egalitan customer service. You will be treated as nicely as a celebrity, not fawning, but with warmth and genuine interest in you. This is what real customer service should be.
i've been coming to see Michael Canale for around 4 years now and he has transformed my hair. He seems to instinctively know what I want so I just let him do whatever he likes as i know i will come out of the salon with great results!\r
I travel from the UK to see Michael as nobody else does color like him. The color is never brassy and his highlights are so flattering and natural that i don't need constant root retouching. They grow out so subtly that i only need to come and get them done 3 or 4 times a year. I wouldn't go anywhere else! \r
James Peter is great for blow-dries too, giving hair plenty of root lift and bounce that lasts for hours. In fact, all the staff are lovely and it's always a relaxed and fun place to go.
Canale Salon is such a fantastic place to come to. The staff are all really talented and great. I come here for more than just a haircut and highlights, I come here to hang out and socialize. Such a nice, friendly and welcoming place.
I have been eying the Canale Salon, in Malibu, for some time now. After a hair color disaster, it was my push to take the plunge. I am sooo happy I did... Michael is a Freaking GENIUS. If you are looking for spctacular hair color he's the ONLY one! I will be flying cross country to see him. He is Brilliant and SUPER sweet. I love him! xoxoxo
Michael Canali is the best hair stylist out there. Why go to a mediocre when you can have the best. He gets you the most natural looking hair color possible. I get compliments all the time on my hair color. I have recommended to all my friends and everyone is very happy.
Like some of you out there, I couldn't decide which colorist would be best for my light brown/blonde highlighted hair that consistently turns out brassy looking. (I have been to some very high-end salons in NY.) Michael quickly determined my base color was off. He called out some numbers and deftly worked magic on my hair. He was quick and confident and created a mane of hair that was naturally highlighted and golden with no hint of orange. It was glossy, manageable, and very beautiful. As soon as I left the salon, the compliments started rolling.
I got the exact hair color I wanted and wondered why I hadn't just come to him sooner. I loved meeting Michael and his staff--he's a doll and so delightful to chat with. There's really no reason to look elsewhere as he knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to your hair. Mille grazie Michael!
Pros: They let you bring coconuts and flowers in:)
After recently relocating to the New York area, I soon realized that one of the most difficult tasks involved with my move was going to be finding a new colorist to revitalize my over-processed hair. Luckily, after a few unsuccessful trials, I discovered the best hair colorist I have ever come across (in NYC or elsewhere). His name is Michael Canale and I would never consider entrusting my hair to anyone else again. Apart from being one of the nicest colorists I have ever met, Michael is also the man with the Midas touch when it comes to sun-kissed, natural-looking highlights which he blends into a beautiful kaleidoscope of complementary caramel tones cleverly interwoven to create dimension, movement, and shine! I have even gone so far as to travel down to Washington DC from New York just for a touchup because he is THAT good!! Dont walk, run to book your appointment with Michael! He has managed to give me the impossibly elusive honey blondish-brown color that Ive been wanting for years and I promise he will leave you feeling just as satisfied!!
Michael and his team are highly professional and deliver what they promise. I have had the pleasure of having my hair highlighted by NYs best and always felt great when I left the salon. About 8 wks later my dark blond (clearly I am not willing to admit that my color has darkened since age 16) hair needed to be highlighted again. I tried a wonderful colorist in Philadelphia who made me look great but put color on my base. This was a no win situation for the girl trying to pull off the natural blond I had as a teen. Then by divine hair intervention I found Michael Canale. As a new client he listened to my wants and needs for my hair and got right to work. He delivered stellar results, and highlights that look nothing short of natural. I could easily go months without a return visit and my hair would still look great! He is an artist who knows what he is doing. He has a great personality, and I enjoy the time spent getting my hair done, and I assure you I have not said that before. Edna is wonderful as well, such a talent. If you want the best...Michael Canale!
Pros: Great highlights and professional service
Cons: dc parking
FYI ladies -- every review is glowing! Disregard ""nightmare experience"" because i was sitting in Michael's chair and witnessed the whole thing. This woman was a very indecisive client. Michael gave her ample time(at least 30 minutes) to flip through some mags and come up with some idea of what she wanted. She had a very needy energy that required let's just say..""remedial hair consulting/psychology"". As busy as he was, he kept checking in with her. Each time, she had no idea what she wanted. After a long time he professionally said i don't think i can help you and she became irate. Michael had to ask her to leave because she started making a scene. i don't know what else he could have done with this client. Clearly she is very disgruntled. That being said, Michael is an amazing artist and human being. He and his staff are extremely professional, talented and kind.
Pros: Talented, warm and caring staff
MICHAEL IS WONDERFUL. I have been a client for about 10 years, going to both his DC and Los Angeles locations. He is one of the most hardworking, earnest, caring and cool guys around -- and he genuinely knows his clients -- remembering children, events, confidences. He is also one of the most hard-working professionals around -- traveling between salons in Rancho Santa Fe, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington DC. So having said that, I had to write and express my particular disdain for the woman who wrote an earlier posting from New York/Connecticut -- who I think must have forgotten to take her anger meds. (And honey, if you're not on any, then get thee to a new doc pronto). Michael is a genius in the world of color and style. It's the reason why every one of his clients keep coming back year after year, and the reason why many of Hollywood's most beautiful women go to him -- as well as those of us who don't fall into that celebrity category. But don't dare show up with an attitude -- which clearly the chick from Connecticut did. He doesn't owe you the latitude of being bitchy, demanding, and unreasonable -- nor should you loiter in a chair trying to figure out who you want to look like, taking away hours from the rest of his loyal clients who look forward to those two hours to walk out feeling more beautiful than before. So, Miss Connecticut, go find yourself a drive through Hair Cuttery and take a look in the mirror -- not even Michael can make someone like you look like Jennifer Aniston -- so give it up.
Pros: Fabulous staff, talent, personality and great music!
If you want the most natural head of highlighted hair look no furthur. I have naturally very dark brown hair, but as a child I had the prettiest golden brown highlights (much like Jen Aniston). I have longed to try out that look for many years. I tried it three times with various stylists and each time I had to dye it back to my dark brown because the highlights were done so badly. I am very particular and I really wanted it to look NATURAL - not processesed, orange or streaky. I wanted it to look like I spent a lot of time out in the sun with a natural sunkissed look. I decided to try it one last time, and did a ton of research. I wanted to go to someone whose specialty is NATURAL HIGHLIGHTING. This led me to Michael Canale. I have been going to him now for 2 years and I LOVE my hair. It is a golden brown reminicent of my childhood hair. He blends it so naturally into my dark hair that even the outgrowth is a great transition (enabling me to only have to go to get re-touched every 13 weeks. His specialty is natural hair and to make it look ""like you were born with it"" and I have to agree with that assessment. I never write reviews but I went through some bad highlights and am hoping to help anyone who wants to have the most gorgeous natural ""child -like"" sun-kissed highlights. \r
Pros: highly skilled and technical, friendly fun atmosphere
I can't even begin to describe just how fantastic my visit was at Canale Salon this afternoon. My appointment was with Michael himself and I can't get over how incredibly natural and beautiful my hair looks. He went beyond measures to ensure my hair was restored back to its healthy state by applying a mask and several different conditioners. I have never had my hair feel so soft, especially after having it colored. James blew it dry in record timing and it looks absolutely flawless. It is definitely worth the extra money, you will feel and look like a million bucks after you leave!
I've been a client at Canale for almost a decade. Every so often i wonder off & try something new; w/ out fail i return, tail between legs, trying to explain why i cheated. Michael gets color; it's his gift -- what he does. Yes, he's a bit of a nutter -- who isn't? I'm practically certifiable. Michael is the man who makes my hair beautiful and I love him - i trust his judgment and know he will always make the right decision. Hair is important; it's right there for all to see. He is an artist but also a professional. I wouldn't trade him for the world! Forget all the salon drama and attitude stuff - it's BS. It took us all of 2 appts to become pals. Be yourself; it's like he reads the person and it will influence the color; i.e.: it gets better every time! Go in, get your service, and walk to your car in amazement. Even without a full blowdry, you're glowing. HE IS THE BEST. As for cut: James Peter! I'm so lucky!! He is a talented, gracious & kind soul. He totally gets hair & knows how to listen to the client. He got what i ""wanted"" even though i couldn't quite articulate it. I was so happy with my cut; still am...yup, he's my guy!! He's accomodating, nice and a genuine good guy! Can you imagine? He gets the scene and we sit back and watch the show...he's a hoot and i adore him!! So now when i leave i've got it all -- amazing freakin color and a killer cut. Prices are comp to seeing a celeb stylist and worth every penny. Shut up and make an appt. You won't be sorry!! Time and time again this is where i end up. I am a total perfectionist and control freak: they get me, and if they get me, they can get anyone! Staff is lovely and willing to help schedule around your life which is rare. LOVE LOVE LOVE this salon.
I used Michael Canale for my highlights when I lived in NYC about 8 years ago. I decided to go back to him because I was never as happy with my hair color as when Michael used to do it. Well let me just say, I had the absolute worst experience of my life. From the second I walked in to the hole in the wall dirty salon that he works out of when he comes to NY, he was nothing but an arrogant, pompous, disgusting person. I sat in the chair regardless of his attitude and waited for him patiently to come over to me. After 30 minutes, he basically kicked me out and told me he wouldnt do my hair. I wanted to lighten and change the golden blonde color that I have now and he claimed that ""since I had no clue what I wanted"" (which is totally false),he didnt have time nor did he want to do my hair. If he was really a professional and such an ""expert"" in hair color, then it shouldnt have been hard to figure out what I was talking about! He basically told me to leave. I walked out in complete shock. This man is an overweight, dirty slob who thinks because he has celebrity clients that he can treat people like garbage. He is literally the worst human that I have ever come across.
I recently went to the Canale salon after getting a disasterous cut from another salon on Canon drive. I have to admit, I came in very upset and thought that no one could possibly fix the mess that was on my head. I ended up seeing James Peter and to my relief, he knew exactly what to do. He made me feel at ease, listened to my concerns and told me exactly how he would fix my hair.. When he was done, I was amazed, not only was he able to fix my hair but he even showed me a more flattering way to style it. James Peter is warm, funny, and very talented. I've never looked better and will definatly go back to see James Peter
I went to Canale Salon in Beverly Hills and had a short haircut done by haircutter Scott Riffe ! I was very happy with the end result...I highly recommend this modern artist and his humble individualistic approach as a hairstylist. Also he's a fun and cool guy to know.
Pros: small but cute salon with a family envoirnment
Cons: none at all
So, I came to Canale for color correction today. A colorist at another salon (up the street) bleached my hair blonde and then mistakenly toned it to a blue-grey. Mortified, I walked across the street to Canale. I knew of Michael's great reputation and I knew I needed help from an expert. It was a Saturday, he was busy with clients but he told me to get changed and not to worry. When Michael finished I was a natural looking, beautiful baby blonde. To top it off, Scott gave me a fantastic cut and I left feeling like a new woman. Michael has a gift when it comes to color. He doesn't care about fads, he just cares about giving you gorgeous hair.
Pros: quick, friendly staff, laid-back, excellent color and cut
After several years of over-bleaching & straightening, my hair looked terrible and stopped growing. After just a few months of going to Michael--the color is amazing and the condition of my hair is better then it's been in a long time. And, with Candace now cutting my hair--it's finally growing and looking fantastic! Both Michael and Candace are exceptionally talented and I feel lucky I found Canale Salon.
I have been coloring my hair for a looooong time and have been to about 6 different salons in my 11 years of living in LA. All I've asked for are some good natural highlights! Well, apparently good natural highlights are hard to come by. Finally, I found Michael on Citysearch. I decided to take a chance and I have been happy since I walked into his salon. He is a pro and funny and sweet to boot. I love going for my highlights now (a process that I used to dread.) Michael is fast and can work with any kind of hair. My hair was fried when I got to him and in a few visits he had me fixed up and looking naturally blonde. Then, it's on to Tabitha to blowdry my hair (which is very curly.) She is also fast and sweet. After she is finished blowdrying my hair looks sleak with the perfect amount of bounce. I go to her as often as possible just for a blowdry even if I'm not needing color with Michael. I don't have a problem spending the money or the time at Canale Salon!
Michael Canale is a genius. It's scary, really. He can take one look at your hair, call out magical numbers (of colors? who knows?!) to his assistant and make your hair look amazing. This is truly a top-notch colorist. . .actually the best I?ve ever been to. I have had my hair colored at some of the top salons in NYC: Louis Licari, Peter Coppola, Warren Tricomi and Bumble & Bumble (to name a few). I have never had better highlights than from Michael Canale (well, Peter Coppola came close). Michael doesn?t just put the highlights in your hair and that?s it. I believe you get what you pay for, and Michael does a triple process every time I see him, including a really great gloss at the end.\r
There?s always someone in the chair and a few clients waiting. It?s a fun, diverse group of people, and Michael makes you feel like one of his family. He is warm, generous and fosters an old-school beauty salon vibe.
I have been coloring my hair for over 20 years and I have run the gamut of colors --> Good and Bad <--. I recently was hired to work for a Fashion Designer and knew that I needed NOT to fool around any longer with Ms. Clariol or the $60 color job at the local salon ... so I did my research and found Canale Salon. I went to their web page and really loved what I read. The price was a bit more than I was used to, but I needed to get the job done right. From the moment I walked in the salon at 8am, the staff (from the assistants to the stylist *Candice is awesome* to the receptionist) couldn't have been more friendly as well as ""The"" colorist Michael Canale. His expertise, advise, attention to detail & professionalism has COMPLETLY hooked me as a client and WORTH EVERY PENNY!! I've walked into salons before in Beverly Hills and surrounding areas where you are made to feel less than human unless you are chauffeured in ... This salon makes you feel like family. Not only will I be getting my hair done there from now on, so will my family! Thank you!!
Cons: didn't got to him years ago!
Butchered doesn't even begin to describe what happened to my hair here. I asked for three inches off with long layers.(My hair was waist length) When my haircut was finished they styled my hair so I couldn't tell until later that night when I got home how messed up it was. One side is three inches shorter than the other. The ""layers"" look like they were done with a weed-whacker.
After having my hair severly damaged from some horrible highlights, I came in to have Michael or Edna give me a consultation. Edna happened to be available and was able to assess the damage right away. She assured me that it would be ok and that she could fix it in time. She asked me to wait as long as possible to color it again, as the damage was pretty extensive, then to come back to her when I was ready. I was soooo nervous the first time I got color from Edna, as it was the first time since my hair had been so broken by someone else! Edna took her time and was so careful to do everything right. She added special treatments to make sure my weak hair did not break, she listened to every word I said and produced the best color I could have ever imagined. I have been going here for a few months now and all I can say is that Edna saved my hair! I also get my hair cut there by Tabitha - who does an AMAZING job as well and has helped nurse my hair back to good health :) Thanks to Edna and Tabitha, my hair is now looking great, they have saved it!!!
Pros: Staff Really Listens, Consistent Amazing Service, Convenient BH location
Cons: A bit pricey but well worth the $$!
Masterful, wonderful, Michael Canale is both artist and scientist---he is superbly gifted. If you are fortunate enough as I was a few years ago, to become one of his clients, you will wonder how you ever went anywhere else. Each head of hair gets Michael's individual analysis and treatment. Michael's clients justifiably adore him and unashamedly adore what he does with their hair---myself included! As much as you think you care about how your hair looks, Michael cares more---and the results show it. Michael gives me a headful of the prettiest, most natural-looking blond highlights--I couldn't be more pleased with the results.\r
Michael's staff reflect his warmth and his dedication. A standout is Natalie, who cuts and styles my long straight hair, giving shape and movement that I never before enjoyed. She's also wonderful.\r
Run, don't walk, to make an appointment. Please don't take my time slot.
Pros: Superb results. Wonderful people. Great relaxed, fun atmosphere.
Cons: There are none
I've tried for years to find a good salon, through my search I have acquired layers of overly processed hair. The second I sat in Michaels chair I knew he was getting me, it was like he could read my mind, he explained what he was going to do & for a very reasonable price. He displayed confidence & concern for what I wanted.
I then saw Tabitha for my cut, she too was very confident & careful with my fear of cutting my length, she took a few inches off & cleaned up a mess of layers that were too high & created the most fabulous locks. It still feels long as ever but the layers are blended & match the cut. She really made me feel comfortable. Michael & Tabitha brought me & my hair back to life, Canale is amazing. Pros: Great communication, Amazing skill & quick, I look fabulous
Cons: None - Amazing place
Michael is a master of color. He works with each person to get the color exactly right - no one has ever done a better job on me. The color (all highlights) are the perfect, perfect shades and my hair SHINES. I'm no celeb but Michael is friendly to EVERYONE and the place is so laid back and chill. Everyone is friendly.
Pros: friendly people, high quality, no attitudes
Cons: high prices
Michael and Edna are the BEST colorists!!!! I have been going to Michael for years and years and the few times I went somewhere else (because I was unable to make an appointment with him) I have deeply regretted it. He does beautiful natural color. He is sweet and funny and he really wants people to look their very best. Edna is also extremely talented and an absolute angel. Don't go anywhere else!!!
Pros: Perfect color, Good value
Cons: tough appointment
Absolutely the best highlights I've ever had thanks to Michael. I also got a great cut. Very nice staff.
Michael is the master of coloring. He works with each individual differently, and understands what looks best w/ eyes, skin tone, etc. Very friendly, laid back BH salon.
Michael did an amazing job on my hair. My color has never looked better or healthier, and my cut was amazing too!
