Enjoyable Experience at a great price
I'm a quality consious spa goer. I don't have really deep pockets so I want to be guaranteed a great experience. Refresh delivers! I've been here several times for facials and massage and it is one of my favorite spas in San Francisco. I've always had great treatments here and the staff are friendly and helpful. You can pay almost twice as much at some other spas, and not be treated so well! There's parking next door as well (they validate) so that saves a few dollars as well.
If you go, plan on spending extra time to enjoy the steam room beforehand.

Disappointment
"Disappointment! I go to spas pretty frequently, probably every other month. I've been to Refresh day spa twice. Both times I decided to go because my mom had gotten me a gift card for my birthday. I'm sad to say that I was disappointed during both times that I've visited the spa. But I'll start at the beginning. The front desk staff was nice, helpful and warm, and the environment was also very nicely decorated. The locker rooms are nice, but they don't really provide much amenities except for the sauna and steam room. They provide you with a hair dryer, but no brushes. I found this a bit weird. They also provided Q-Tips, but nothing much else. I was also disappointed by the fact that, considering this is a spa, the shampoo, conditioner and body gel was very generic and did not have a fragrance at all. I expected something more scented and fragrant. But oh well. The lounge where you wait for your services was very small and not very relaxing, but luckily, I didn't have to wait long for my services in their lounge. My first experience wasn't all that great. I was greeted by my therapist Sarah, for the Hawaiian Salt Scrub with Kukui nut oil massage. The service was alright, but my therapist didn't seem to have much of any reactions to me. She didn't say much except "Hi, I'm Sarah" and rarely smiled. Her sullen reaction to me made me feel a bit uptight from the start, making me feel like she wasn't excited about her job. The room where the scrubs are performed was very nice, with a long moving shower that they run all over your body to remove the salts with. That was a very relaxing experience. However, from this moment, on, I was very disappointed. I was lead into the massage room, for my swedish massage. Once I layed onto the bed, I remembered that I had forgotten my locker room key in the previous room. When my therapist came back for the massage, I had asked her to retrive my key from the room, and she had responded by saying that she was going to get it after my massage. I didn't want to say anything at the moment, because I tried not to make a big deal out of it, but I was really pissed off inside. The locker room keys in a day spa are supposed to be guarded considering we have all of our belongings in our lockers. True, I should've been more cautious about my key, but I was so relaxed after the scrub and I was looking forward to my massage, my mind slipped. Needless to say, my massage was shot to hell. The whole time, I was thinking about who might notice my key in the room, and that they might open up my locker. I was extremely disappointed. Was it that difficult to get my key from the other room? It was only about 10 steps away.
I must say that I've been spoiled, since I usually go to Spa Fusion, downtown in the Hilton. They provide their guests with everything. My first experience at Refresh, I had high expectations, and decided not to being a hairbrush thinking they would be provided. Obviously they were not since I had stated it earlier. So that was my first experience at Refresh.
My second experience at Refresh, was a little better. My massage therapist Darryl better. Not much more to say there. After my massage, I had an appointment for an eye brow wax from Leslie. And again I was disappointed. Not only did she wax little sections at a time, but when I asked her to make it a little thinner, she responded by saying that "They normally don't wax that part." I'm thinking to myself, "What part?" You left the bottom part of my eye brow unwaxed and I saw little hairs still there. I was disappointed. $20 dollars for a mediocre wax. They don't even trim the longer hairs, I had ask her to trim. She spent 25 minutes on something that could've taken 10 minutes.
All in all, I was really hoping that my second experience at Refresh was going to be a lot better. But they were pretty much the same. Needless to say, being an obsessive spa-goer, I won't be returning back to Refresh. Consider other day spas in San Francisco as well."

Great Service, Great Services
I had my eyebrows done here before my wedding and even though it was pricier than my regular place, I have to say that my eyebrows never looked better. I forgot the name of the girl who did em, Amy I think. She was courteous and gentle and she made sure to listen to what I wanted before just ripping off the hair and doing what she thought looked good.
I can't really speak for its spa packages, although I wish I had my facial done here before the wedding rather than kamalaspa, which was really crappy btw.
PROS: Service
CONS: none

Excellent day spa
Refresh is a great day spa in San Francisco. The interior is very tranquil and zen-like, and the staff is very friendly. I recieved a spa package for a birthday gift and all around it was an excellent experience and I'd love to go back. The swedish massage was one of the best I've ever had, and the surroundings were beautiful and very luxe. I also had a great facial and manicure too. Be sure to get there early to make use of the free sauna, steam room, and showers. They also have other nice freebies like hot tea, cucumber water, and juices.

Decent spa
One of the better spas that we have in the bay area. they have decent pakages though a little on the expensive side but worth a try. the only thing that i didnot like about them was that they kept pushing me to upgrade. I guess it should have been my choice!!!
PROS: Decent service
CONS: pushy for upgrade...

Refresh A Day Spa
This is a good spa to go to and experience. The environments match my ideals of a spa – relaxing and warm. I had a great time with my girlfriend at the spa. The massages were excellent that I almost fell asleep during the process. The experience was so soothing that I might consider going back there again. Overall, I would recommend you to try this spa if you are looking for a relaxing time with a good value.

Beautiful spot
Refresh has a very peaceful and tranquil atmosphere and is a great plush spot to relax for the day with a massage or facial. Prices are slightly cheaper than other spas around the city and I love the freebies such as the cucumber water, sauna and steam room. I had a swedish massage and it's was one of the best I've ever had.

Relax!
Have you had your spa treatment today? This is San Francisco's largest day spa and nicest I might add. They offer relaxing European, Asian and Hawaiian influenced treatments. Their facials, pedicures and manicures are absolutely wonderful. This is also the perfect gift to treat a loved one to a day at the spa.

great massage and facial
I've had great luck with massage at refresh, so I decided to try out their facials. Leslie was very knowledgable and her facial massage nearly put me to sleep. I was so relaxed and my skin was glowing!
Pros: great services and staff
Cons: steam room

horrible massages
I've come here twice and won't go back.
The first time, the massage therapist was so overweight that her stomach "rested" on me as she worked on me.
The second time I went - this past weekend -I asked for a good therapist when I made my appt, and had explained that I didn't enjoy my earlier experience. No such luck on getting someone better.
This therapist applied no pressure, despite being asked three times to increase the pressure. I asked him to concentrate on my upper back - he barely even went to that area. Major muscle groups were not even treated. I totally wasted my money here.
The "spa' experience is horrible. Showers are dirty, steam room is moldy.
In addition, the staff isn't very bright. I asked the receptionist to put my friend's facial treatment on my card quietly so I could treat her. She ended up putting all of her treatments on my bill and billing me incorrectly. It just made the situation uncomfortable when we were paying. I just hated my experience there and won't go back. They bill themselves as high end, and they aren't. Spend your money at a spa that understands customer service and hires competent therapists.
Cons: massage was bad; steam rooms and showers were moldy and dirty - not worth the $$

Very Accommodating
On a recent visit to SF from NYC, I decided to treat my best friend to a day at the spa. After getting a little lost (don't trust mapquest directions!), I called and told the staff that we would be late for our appointments. When we finally got there a half hour later, we were pleasantly surprised - the reception staff was kind enough to move our double appointments so we wouldn't have to miss a minute of our spa treatments! Most spas would have just deducted the half hour from our treatment time (it helps that it was early afternoon on a Fri and therefore less busy). We both enjoyed the re:capture package of massage, facial, and mani. The entire staff was very friendly and Holly was a very good masseuse. Warm robes and accupressure slippers were provided along with a sauna and shower. The mani/pedi room had us sitting up on a dais, much like empresses, and the staff was very nice about letting us try a few nail colors before settling on one to our liking. I don't think I've ever been to a mani/pedi place that would do that with a brilliant, friendly smile on their faces! Being horrible at math, the best part was that tips were included in the package price and distributed evenly to each staff member that helped us and was printed out on our bill. All in all, Re:Fresh made everything effortless and relaxing in a friendly atmosphere. I'll be sure to make another appointment the next time I'm in town!
Pros: very accomodating, friendly staff, clean facilities
Cons: parking

One of my favorites
I don't frequent spas often. Re:Fresh was recommended by my husband's boss at the time. I took my bridal party there the day before the wedding for some pampering. I had a seaweed wrap that was very relaxing and provided a good glow. The girls had various massages and mani/pedis. They certainly liked it as most of them fell asleep. My sister had a facial for the first time, which she truly enjoyed. She has somewhat troubled skin, but came out glowing at looking beautiful for the photos. I went back months later with my husband for a birthday surprise for massages and manis. We were both relaxed and enjoyed our manis in the nice high-back wicker chairs. It's a great quickie spa and love the refreshing cucumber water. It was a godsend after my wrap.
Pros: Friendly attentive staff, cucumber water, relaxing environment
Cons: A little basic on amentities
