I took my 13 month old sone to Rainbow kids today to get his first "big-boy" haircut. And we were very disapointed. The lady doing his hair didn't speak to him or try to make him comfortable. Even though our son didn't move much, just sat there and played with his own toys she let the trimmer sit so long on his neck in so many places that the back of his neck has blood and scratches. Not only is that very upsetting to me, but it wasn't even a good haircut. It's very uneven. We will not be going back.

I have a 4-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter. We moved to Irvine 2 months ago. This is a walking distance from our house-the location is so convenient that we chose to go there for the kids haircut. Both my husband and I were sorry that we did. Not only that our kids got the worst haircut ever, the customer service was terrible. Do not waste your time with this place. The ladies are rude-the place is not geared for children. It is not the cheapest place either.

If I had reviewed this Rainbow Kids three months ago, when I first had my older son??s hair cut there, I would have probably given it 4 out of 5 stars ?? reasonable rates, a friendly hairdresser, acceptable haircut. Today, we were 10 minutes late for two parallel 5:30 appointments for both of our boys. My husband called them and told them we were on our way, and they said they??ll still take us if we get there in the next few minutes. 5:42 we walk in after finally finding parking at the opposite end of the mall. The salon is wiped clean. I profusely apologize we??re late to the receptionist, who is holding a pile of cash ?? I assume closing the register. ??It??s up to the hairdressers,? she says. Two of them emerge from the back room and state they??re not paid overtime (the salon is open until 6pm). I apologize again, and suggest paying them cash for whatever overtime they require, plus leave an extra tip ?? it is that important to me to get this done? It is not the easiest thing to get a 1-1/2 year old and a 3-1/2 year old somewhere on time against the odds -- the big guy needed to be fully changed since he was soaking wet after waterplay at his pre-school and there was a fender-bender on the way so a three-lane street was reduced to two on a rush-hour Friday pm ?? but do I have time to explain all that? No. I just apologize for a third time we??re late. And silly me, I expect a little bit of service from a place dedicated to kids haircuts ?? they should know that schedules shift (by 10 minutes!) with two kids in tow? So instead of spreading the word to all my friends with young children of how awesome their service has been and how they have accommodated us by extending their hours by a few minutes, I??m forced to write this steaming angry review? And never go there again.

Pros: Convenient location

Cons: Terrible customer service

Kind of expensive for what you get...especially for a little boys hair. My daughters love this place because of the little braids and bows but it just isn't worth it for a boy. Bring him to the barber while you bring the girls here... It isn't the cleanest place and often there is a bit of a communication problem with the staff but overall it is alright for a once in while cut.
