This is a good restaurant for ppl to sip some sake and have some small dishes, their grilled food are awesome, no wonder they called Izakaya as well...I like their grilled chicken wings w/ salt & soft shell crabs. And their tuna rolls and tuna sushi is very fresh as well too..

If you're looking for a great place to drink some sake and have some Japanese Bar food this is it! Izakaya is small dishes built to be had with beer and/or sake. They do have sushi and the ramen is also pretty good.

The interior is a little cramped but has alot of character...including the train on the tracks that goes around the restaurant and the hanging model jets.

Pros: Great small dishes, authentic and large menu

Cons: long waits on weekend nights, bad parking in downtown San Mateo

Tombo udon are outstanding. Arguably, the best in the Bay area. Their homemade udon noodles are slightly smaller than the udon found elsewhere. But the amazing broth is the star here. Sushi is OK. Interior is a bit tired. They recently added more help, so the service is better.
