The Greystone Restaurant was unfortunately under construction when we visited, but the manor itself was beautiful. We got to tour around and walked through the wine cellars. Also loved the Gift store which has just about every cook book you can imagine. I wanted to buy it ALL but my wallet didn't allow..

I cannot say enough good things about the Greystone Restaurant. The food is always excellent. I always recommend it to anyone visiting Napa Valley. When we visit, we eat there twice at a minimum. The menu is fabulous, service is impeccable and the flavors are exciting and your mouth waters for more!

We made a spur of the moment decision to make a reservation here since the Stag's Leap Winery was apparently appointment only. At 2:15pm, we dined at their huge dining room, with only about 3 other tables having people in it. The mixed weekday crowd wasn't a pretty one, by a long shot.

Service was just going through the motions, nothing special. Also, I believe everyone's a student, from the servers to the chefs, which explain a lot. My husband's chicken was undercooked, although had crispy skin. My steak was tough, yet undercooked inside once again. The only thing that was good were the oysters on the half shell appetizer. Very fresh tasting.

When in wine country, especially with "newbies," I always do what it takes to have dinner at CIA Greystone. The experience is fantastic - it's not just your average nice restaurant. People are fascinated by the culinary school aspect and the food is REALLY VERY GOOD.
In my experience (I've eaten there about 5 times), the service tries to be something it's not - I believe much of the staff is students - and thus the service is akward, slow, and inconsistent.
But you come for the expericne and the food, both of which are recommended. If you don't order bottles of wine, or dessert, you can get out of there for a little over $50 per person. They have some great wines at a premium price.
Oh, you should always try to make reservations. I've never tried to just walk in. If you have a semi-large party (5-10) they take really good care of you.

PROS: Unique and amazing dining experience. Great cuisine
CONS: Spotty, akward service.

The Greystone manor where the Culinary Institute is located in is a beautiful building. It is right off the main road but elevated from it which really shows off this majestic building. Parking is a bit limited because they only have a small parking lot in front of the building and many visitors. They have small exhibits in the halls showcasing the manor's history and a culinary shop selling all the gadgets you may need in the kitchen.
