Same here, if I could add no stars I would. Terrible place. The person who wrote the good comment must work for them and is probably been forced to do so, the place is awful!! I went there with a terrible toothache, after all the X-RAYS, the dentist finally came and looked at my mouth, while standing up, for no longer than 30 seconds, kid you not. I had barely opened my mouth and he was already done, apparently on those 30 secs he noticed that my pain was being caused by my wisdom teeth, by the fact that the teeth were stuck on the bone, he said I had to extract it as soon as possible, in fact since both bottom wisdom teeth were blocked I should go ahead and extract all four, I told him that I actually had a lot of pain on a specific tooth and he said that it was because I had a cavity (in one of the bottom left molars), but he would not be able to treat until I had them pulled, because that was the origin of all the pain, wisdom teeth. I was in so much pain and had heard of so many stories of wisdom teeth causing pain that I agreed with him, $600.00 later I had no wisdom teeth. My next appointment was scheduled for almost a month later and here comes the best, fun part. I saw the same dentist again and now he tells me that the reason of my pain, which by the way is now on ALL my bottom teeth are being cause by my gums being inflamed and that I needed deep cleaning. Another thing he mention were my 2 cavities, both on the right side of my mouth!! I asked him about what he said on the last time about the other cavity he said there was no cavity on the side, I must have misunderstood him. I guess the dental assistant who was helping him had also made a mistake be she also asked him about that tooth to which he responded there is nothing there. When told him to just treat the cavities he told me no, that my pain was not on the cavities but in my gums, I told him that I knew exactly where the pain was and it was not in the gums, he said I didn't know where my pain was and said that the only way to get out of pain was with a deep cleaning procedure that would cost me around $600.00, just like the wisdom teeth that were originally the cause of my pain...don't go there, the are after excuses to make money, they are incompetent.

I went to this Denal Office for 15 years. I am not sure at what point they became so greedy, rude and incompetent, but it became increasingly obvious that they were trying to get as much money as they could from you, while letting their customer service, etc. go down hill. Way down!!! In the end I had to quit because they refused to see me unless I stayed on their "three month" plan, and since I couldn't afford the uncovered treatment, they refused to see me at all, even for the coverage my dental insurance provided, until I would come in on the "three month" plan. And when I left them they charged a $30 fee to get my records!! I don't even have time to explain all the other abuses of this place. DO NOT GO THERE!

Shady employees that work there. Always trying to get the most money out of you. Went in to get a cleaning and they were trying to get me to shell out $88 for a deep cleaning. They said that I needed it because my gums were bleeding. Mind you, this is after the hygienist just poked me with a dental pick for about 5 min. Been going there for 4 yrs with no cavities and healthy gums and all of a sudden I need a deep cleaning!!! I refused the deep cleaning but they still would not do a standard cleaning. Hell,my teeth were whiter that the hygienist!!! What a joke!!! Never go to this place. They will milk you for every penny that you got.

Those people who posted positive experiences with this dental group had to have been in a different office than the one I was at. The dentists were okay, but the office staff is incompetent and unhelpful. I asked for an estimate so that I knew what would be covered and what I would have to pay. So, they called me at home after my initial appointment and gave me the estimate. I verified that they had called my insurance provider - they said yes. However, when my insurance rejected some of the fees, and I called my insurance to find out why and learned that they had never submitted a proposal or estimate to my insurance. When I confronted the office staff about this I was basically told "Oh well, it was your responsibility not ours." And I was stuck with a $500 bill.
In addition, I sat in the waiting hour for more than an hour for my first appointment. They scheduled me with dental hygienist who was not even working the day they scheduled my appointment.
They NEVER return phone calls, and I suspect that the office manager who was supposed to call does not exist.

I don't normally post reviews online for a business, in fact, I haven't ever posted a review online before for anything. After my expiernece at Gentle Dental in La Mesa, I had to seek out a way to warn others. Especially since I have heard horror stories from others first hand detailing bad experiences at this office. I never took the time to actually seek out reviews and info for a dental office before; I always thought that the quality of care would be about the same pretty much wherever you went.. THATS NOT TRUE.

I have had poor quality work done, particularly dental fillings falling out. I do not have many fillings, a total of 4 right now, 2 from my child hood and 2 from adult hood. The recent two have both fallen out on 2 different occasions. I finally went to another dentist and was explained that the actual fillings themselves were not properly applied and the holes drilled into the enamel of the teeth too large! My new dentist also explained the dangers of this kind of work to the tooth itself and the risk that it will damage structure and integrity of the tooth.

However, what had bothered me the most at Gentle Dental was always the lack of professionalism in their scheduling. I became very accustomed to having my appointments either canceled or pushed back later in the day leaving me waiting in their waiting room for over an hour on once occasion. What's worse, they do not automatically schedule your next cleaning appointment within 9 to 12 months like most other dental offices, you have to do that yourself. The problem is that they are backed up at least 6 months for cleanings, so if you find that the time is coming for an appointment , you can't get in. What's worse, my last visit was canceled a week prior to the planned appointment and I was told I had to reschedule with a different doctor - 4 months later! They refused to get me in earlier unless I called at 7:30am every morning checking for cancelations. That ends up being a 10 month time span between when I tried to schedule and appointment to when I actually was seen. Its ridiculous and sadly its the norm.

Please, if you are reading this and have not gone there yet, don't. I wish I would have had the foresight to read up on this office before becoming a patient of theirs.

I had a good experience with this dental office. I really like the dentist that saw me. She was very careful and explained everything she was doing before she did it. She made sure I was comfortable, as I am very sensitive to dental work. I had my teeth cleaned and the hygenist was great. I saw the same dentist each visit and she did a crown on one of my molars. Her assistant was also very gentle and careful with me and didn't rush through the procedure.
I've been to this office three times now. Each time I've gone I have never waited more than ten minutes in the waiting room. The office is clean and they actually have two offices. There is an office on the 3rd floor and one on the 4th. They did have some computer problems when I went one time, but I have computer problems at my job daily, so that is just life in the computer world.
I would recommend this office and also maybe remind people that you can't get more bees with honey....

I have had some negative experiences with this dental office and would highly recommend that you consider other dentists in the area. Some of the other reviewers have had really bad expierences with this office. My experience has been more of an overall general dissatisfaction with their service. Out of my last 6 visits, every single one has been delayed, with the longest I have waited past my scheduled time being an hour. The offices are somewhat small, with the furniture and fixtures all worn and giving the office an overall worn out quality. I found out from my orthodontist that most of the dentists at the office don't actually work there full-time and go around throughout the week to other offices. As a result I have never had the same dentist or hygienist twice. The dentists do not spend time to introduce themselves when the come to sit down.. Overall the service is really second rate and it really makes you wonder about the quality of care you receive. I have seen on numerous occasions patients discussing loudly and angrily at the front desk financial issues regarding bill payments. Its just altogether unprofessional and frankly it seems kinda ghetto. I understand that Gentle Dental may be a budget, low rate dentist, however, if you are able I would suggest looking into other dental offices in and around La Mesa.

I've been going to this office since 2003, I changed insurance carrier 3x and never had a billing issue in the past. However, they never return my calls. When I get post cards requesting to schedule an appointment I call leave a message and they never call me back. I had services in August 2006 my first appountment took 3 1/2 weeks to make, I told them I needed a cleaning. They saw me and said you need a cleaning schedule it at the desk. They said my appointment was just for a consultation, even though I already told them I needed a cleaning when I made the appointment. I was charged a co-pay. I came back 3 1/2 weeks later I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time even though I arrived 15 minutes early. They told me I had to pay out of pocket because they couldn't do an insurance verification because my payer was closed. I said fine reimburse me after the claim. I called my payer I work w/insurance I understand these things, I told them services I had they said it was covered. I called the dentist back left a message, the office manager never called me back. A receptionist called said they were working on the file and would call me back - that never happened. They never closed the credit card batch for the amount they charged on my bank card, they never filed the claim, they never called me back. I called 6 times!! It's now 5 months later and I have the first correspondence from them a bill with late fees but no itemization of services so I can't file the claim myself now. I don't know why they never closed the credit card bacth, I have a copy of the reciept I signed, I don't know why the claim wasn't filed or why a bill was sent to me 5 months later. I'm really upset with this office and I warn you , you may end up like me. I had several years of a good experience and all of a sudden this. Don't get involved with this office they might waste your time, over charge you and try to ruin your credit. I've filed a grievance with my PPO and will file another one with the dental association for insurance fraud if this is not resolved.

Entire Gentle Dental company is like a a hungry crow, they will promise you "golden mountains" to get you, but once they got you....you will be writing one of this negative reviews. When I relocated to San Diego a year ago, I was looking to establish my new dental office. I read first reviews which were negative and unfortunately did not take them into the consideration. I gave Gentle Dental a try. My doctor was great, but she left the company very shortly after my visit. I quickly realized that if I stay with this dental office I will be "tossed" from one doctor to another who will never know my dental history. So I requested a copy of my record so I could start looking for a new dental office and a permanent doctor and instead of the record I was shouted at by the office manager, who refused to give me my record (which was already paid off by me and my insurance) unless I pay them $30.00. That was the most unprofessional office I have ever visited in my life and I would not recommend anybody to go there. People, please trust us, those that learned the lesson in a hard way. Save yourself time and money and look for another dental office, but Gentle Dental. Those other positive reviews---is a BIG set up. Gentle Dental is trying to have at least some positive feedback.Oh another thing...I contacted the Head quarters and told them about my experience and....I was ignored as well. If you want to be mistreated, ignored, shouted at...then Gentle Dental is the office to go....Good luck!

I was late to my appt. (20min.) so they told me i could not be seen anymore but i had another appt. a 1/2hour later (there too) and i waited. i was called in after about 15min. of my other appt. and then they checked w/ the dentist for my missed appt. and he had time for me, therefor they saw me for both appt. Not only that, but i did not have the full amount, so they gave me time to pay the rest of my bill, which was very nice, b/c i thought you were not allowed to do that. They did have me scheduled for an appt. for something i did not need, which i thought was fishy... but they were friendly and told me i really didnt need that appt. and canceled it for me. Overall i had a great experience. EVERYONE was friendly and I had a VERY handsome dental assistant and dentist, both very friendly and informative about the work being done to me. :)

You would think that someone doing Ortho care would work around school aged children's schedules - NO WAY. It took forever to get an appointment which could never be scheduled before or after school at our convenience. We had to have our son miss classes each and every appointment. If we were 10 minutes late our appointment was cancelled but we were made to wait over an hour at every appointment kept. Our son had his braces removed in June, 2006 and lost his retainer at the beach this weekend. I called to have another retainer made thinking the mold would certainly fit after only two months. Nope we must see the doctor $35.00 - make another appointment to have another mold taken $$$ - make another appointment to be fit - more money - do you think there's any motive with this group other than MONEY? On top of this the entire staff is RUDE beyond words...yelling about missed appointments that were not missed, talking about finances, etc. all in front of other patients - Do not use this group.

This dental practice is AWFUL! It takes months to get an appointment, the receptionist is RUDE on the phone, they try to get you to "upgrade" to more services because they want more money, the dentists are shady, they stick in one room after another and nobody comes in to help you, and they give you the run around trying to figure out if your insurance will cover common procedures! What a joke! Don't go here!!!

This office is a nightmare!! Their schedule is completely overbooked - you wait forever to get your appointment, first of all. Then, once you have arranged your schedule to go to your visit, you wait forever and ever in the waiting room. THEN comes the real kicker- they do not do your dental cleaning at this visit!!! They have you schedule ANOTHER visit to get your teeth cleaned, and do not tell you this upfront. I'm a busy person, and I was extremely irritated that I was required to go TWICE for services that elsewhere throughout my entire life, were provided at one visit. When there, I overheard the conversation of another upset patient being told the same. And that they don't tell you this upfront, I consider wrong. At least give folks an opportunity to decide if you want to waste your time.... Nightmare, waste of time!!
