Master Shudong Li is a fantastic teacher. He is not only a highly accomplished martial artist, versed in many different forms and weapons, but also a caring, inspiring, and articulate teacher who is able to explain fine points and encourage students to do their best. Although he has a super-busy schedule and offers classes ranging from introductory kung fu for kids to advanced taichi and tournament--level wushu, when he gets in front of the class he devotes his full attention to the students every time. Master Li is an upright person whose integrity and generosity of spirit make his school unique among the many kung fu schools around the South Bay.

Here at the Lis Academy, the martial art of Tai Chi is indeed very popular amogst the older generation. Many of the elderly practice tai chi regularly as a daily excercise to keep the blood flowing and the muscles somewhat flexible. The movements are slow and methodic and lots of breathing exercises are also part of the activity.

I took self-defense at Li's Tai Chi and found it to be quite satisfactory. We were taught how to escape holds, basic punches and kicks, and how to throw. The academy itself is fairly large: the front contains some sitting area and the administration, the rest of the building is matted. Overall there is ample space for practicing. The trainer is definately well versed. I remember one time, one of the students spontatenously decided to test the trainer and was instantly disabled.
