ONCE I WENT WITH MY FRIENDS OVER THERE THE MANAGER OR WHO EVER HE IS HE IS SUCH AN ASS HOLE HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TALK TO THE CUSTOMERS. THEY REALLY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE INDIANS WHICH YOU WOULD EASILY FEEL...THE FOOD IS TASTELESS AND THEY HAVE KNOW IDEA ABOUT THE INDIAN FOOD....I WOULD GIVE PLACE 1/500.

Pros: NOTHING GOOD

Cons: NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR INDIANS.

I've been going to this place for the last 10 years when they were a tiny restaurant two blocks down. The owners are very nice and the food is amazing.

The palak paneer is great, and the samosas are the best. Most indian restaurants have samosas that are obviously trying to be "fillers" stuffing them with too much dough or potatoes. Here, the outer dough is thin, and the flavors inside are great. Also, the tikka masala along with other curries have a thick consistency, unlike their watered down counterparts.

the best place for lunch.

Pros: good service, nice owners, great location and good price

Cons: not that I can think of

I came here with a group of friends for my birthday lunch on a weekday. The lunch buffet is inexpensive (Under $10) and has a good variety of curry, samosas (delicious), and naan. Fantastic deal for good Indian food in Alhambra!

The servers were very courteous here and refilled our water and brought over naan whenever we wanted. I would definitely recommend at least giving it a try. Near good shopping and movie theater.

I love this place because the food is amazing and it's never busy. I really don't know how they stay in business since it's usually empty when I go in. I got addicted to their food and now I do take-out from there at least once a week. My favorites are the lamb saag and chicken tikka masala.

This place is my favorite local undiscovered-hole-in-the-wall. I always get the Tandoori combo that comes with chicken tandoori, lamb steaks, and lamb sausages on a bed of grilled onions. It comes in a sizzling pan- that sizzling sound, with the visual of the food and the aroma of bold flavors make my mouth water (yes, even at this moment, as I'm writing this). The service is attentive, always ready to refill your drinks, and asking how the food is.

PS: If you peek at the kitchen, the cooks are from India, you know it's authentic.

And do try the samosas, not as big as the ones in Washington DC.. but you know.. good stuff.

This place is GREAT especially right before a movie around the corner. They seem to be family owned, and are so eager to give you a great experience. The samosas are good, especially for the area. I highly recommend the saag paneer. Their recipe is a bit different but very memorable. There is also a lunch buffet that is a great value. Seating isn't usually a problem, which is shocking to me. But it is a great spot and I highly recommend you put it on your list of places to integrate into your eating out schedule.

Pros: Friendliest people

Cons: You drink too much water cause they fill it too often! ha!

We went to Mahan after reading a couple of glowing reviews. It was a disaster. While attempting to order, our waiter repeatedly pushed an entree that neither of us had any interest in, even after we had ordered our preferred food. As he confirmed our order he substituted his recommended dish for one of our entrees, and we had to correct it. The samosa we ordered as appetizers were decent, although the two condiments supplied were not fresh and had been sitting, uncovered, on the table when we walked in. Our entrees, chicken and lamb, took a long time to come. The layout of the restaurant is such that there is a raised section accessed from the entry that is surrounded by a railing, and a ramp that leads down to the main room. We were seated in the upper section, although the place was practically empty, with only 3 other tables occupied. When our food finally arrived, the waiter, rather than walk around to where we sat, stood at the railing and handed each dish across the railing to my companion. The chicken was ok, the lamb was tough and tasteless, as if it had been sitting around for a several days. The waiter was uniformly surly and did not appear to be clean. We asked for the chicken to be doggy bagged and an equally surly crone appeared after a while and dropped a container and a bag on the table leaving us to do the transfer. CHECK YOUR BILL CAREFULLY! We found a six dollar discrepancy between the written bill ad the charge slip.

I have eaten Indian food in major cities throughout the U.S., and this is the best North Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is uniquely spiced and cooked perfectly. The prices are low (the buffet is an especially good deal). The atmosphere is nice, located in a sort-of stip mall accross from a movie theater, and the service is kind, but informal.

This place is not only clean as the "A" rating shows, the food is goood. I'm surprised they don't have many customers (because of it's location in Alhambra surrounded by a lot of uncultured people) because the food is really tasty. I like ordering the dinner sets because they fill me up and I can try a few things at a time. The buffet is also a good deal and a good chance for people to try the more popular dishes while getting some variety. Most of the prices range would fall under the dinner price since it's not that cheap but I'd think that it's well worth it when you leave this place full and content.

I only had their take-out. The curry shrimp, samosas and potato curry was good. Certain dish here reminds me of another place called Chameli. The food was great, but overall kind of pricey, but it's feesible!

The Tandoori chicken is great! This is a great little family owned restaurant. They have recently expanded to a larger room. They have great lunch buffets.

Mahan is a good value and has good lunch and dinner specials. The palak paneer and chana masala are great. The service is also very warm. It has that family run, kind atmosphere which compliments it's cuisines. If you do go for a bite while there are no specials it can get more expensive, but you can get around that by eating family style.
