I had a great experience at the Denver Kona Grill. My girlfriend and I had a nice evening out that included dinner at Kona Grill. I read some reviews on this site but was keeping an open mind and was very impressed. The service was great for starters, our sever was very pleasant and knowledgeable about their menu. The food was very decent, it had an island flair, an asian accent, but still still very recognizable. Their Mac Chicken is to die for. All and all I would recommend Kona Grill Denver to anyone! I will definitely be back...

Pros: Great Patio, Great Service, Awesome Food

Cons: None

Great happy hour 4 - 7 p.m. and with great drink specials and half-price appetizers. We love to sit outside on the patio with fire pit to keep you warm in the winter.

What is going on w/ our younger generation? What's happening in high schools and colleges now? The hostess and servers are so young, yet behave as though life has already taken them out and holding them down. Sad.

Here's what to expect if you eat here and possess an intimidating quality (look successful, good, enjoying life):

- Smile in your face BUT does everything wrong (how else can they manipulate a decent tip from you).
- SLOW service, so if you don't have time to spare...
- Dirty looks and stares from the rest of the wait staff (your server may smart enough to not give you a dirty look, considering it's her/his tip on the line), so if you don't like being treated like you're a felon...
- Rude and short treatment, maybe you don't want to revive mean grade school moments
- Food tastes off, who wants to worry about the amount of access the not so "nice" wait staff has to your food....not as if there's security in the kitchen

Dear Wait Staff,

Get some help, life is too long to live this way. Passive aggressive behavior is problem. Behave that way long enough, you can be talking about turning the behavior into a disorder. Passive aggressive disorder could lead to many [permantly damaging] failures in life and intense therapy to overcome. You were not born this way, don't risk it. If the environment cannot be improved, remove yourself and find a better work environment.

we came from Boulder to shop and specifically eat at Kona.
we were the first and only ones there when we ordered
pizza and sushi ( 2 of us)
they came out together, shrimp was tempura and COLD
I asked the waiter who stated it was cold as they were waiting for pizza??(no way it was cooked today!)
Isnt that his job to coordinate so both are hot?
Talked to manager who came with liquor breath!
pizza dough was commercial , not made fresh

a great dissapointment!

Kona is located in the Cherry Creek Shopping Mall. Sit in the bar and enjoy a beautiful saltwater fish tank. Great outdoor patio when the weather is warm and a fire-pit for when the weather turns cooler. The sushi wave roll is fresh and fabulous. The oriental chicken is delicious and plentiful. Fun place to eat in a hip Cherry Creek setting.

The ONLY reason to come here is for the happy hour. You can get sake bombs and and mediocre sushi and/or pizza for reasonable prices. The outdoor patio is nice. The catch is that it's always crowded and not easy to get a table. Plus, it's crowded with $30K annual income, living off American Express, tool bags pre-gaming before they head down to some Lodo ultra-lounge. Overall, it's OK, but for a better late-night happy hour in Cherry Creek, head to Tambien between 2nd and 3rd on Steele for $1 tacos and $2.50 Tecates.

I Valet parked at Cherry Creek Mall and was asked it I had ever parked there before (the young man had a very condescending attitude). I don't drive a Porsche but I valet park sometimes. I was meeting a friend, told the Hostess my name and my parties name, I was seated by the kitchen, there were lots of open table throughout the restaurant. I sat there for 10 minutes before I was greeted by my waiter, well not really greeted , he said he'd be right back. 10 minutes later he asked if I wanted something to drink. 10 more minutes went by and I called my friend to see where she was, she said she was at Kona and asked for me and the Host told her no one was waiting for any one so she went back to her car to get her phone and called me. I told her where I was sitting,.Then I asked if I could move, and was seated in a booth that smelled like a used ashtray and garbage, the food was OK ,not great the service was absolutely horrible. I think just because a restaurant is located in Cherry Creek doesn't mean people will continue to eat there if service is lousy. I won't.

Kona Grill is one of the best places to eat in Cherry Creek. Their patio is great, it's covered so you can sit there throughout the year. It's always packed though so it's very hard to get a table out there. The dining room was very nice, with great booths. We went for dinner on a weeknight without a reservation and there was no wait for the dining room. The service was good. We were missing one set of silverware and the waiter didn't notice and he also didn't bring out plates for sushi until we asked. But everything else was great, service was fast and attentive. Their cheeseburger is excellent and the fries are great. Can't say enough good things about their sushi, the spicy yellowtail rolls are excellent. Nice place for dinner and great location. I guess they also have complimentary valet parking throughout the week in the evenings, which is great.

Good food, bad service. I've been there twice for the California Rolls, they are delicious. The problem is that the service is so bad. I went a second time with friends, our appetizer came out with no plates not silverware, and our drinks were not delivered yet. I signaled for the manager to get some water, and he looked like he could have cared or less. He did bring the water (very unfriendly) and we finally got our drinks and the rest of our order. Bad service with good food is not a good combination. I suggest sitting in the dinning room as opposed to the bar area.

I love hamburgers, just love 'em and try 'em everywhere I go. If you've never had a Kona Grill burger and fries, you are truly missing Denver's finest! The burger is so big I usually split it with whomever I go there with.....you simply cannot eat one by yourself. The meat is delicious, Consistently, perfectly cooked to order and served on a wonderful, fresly baked bun. I don't care for cheese on my burgers so always ask them to leave it but otherwise you get I think it's 2-3 different kinds melted on it. Fresh lettuce, t'maters.....all the trimmings. I've eaten at all the 'usual' burger places all over this city and state and still don't understand why Kona Grill burgers are never listed anywhere on any of those ' best of ' lists. And....the fries....oh, the fries, mm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mm, also the best! The perfect crispness on the outside, and soft on the inside....never over/under cooked. Seriously, all you burger lovers out there....I challenge you to taste the Kona Grill burger and fries and tell it it's not the best! Also, the avocado egg rolls....to die for.

I was there last night Sun 2/11 and the service was slow, though there weren't many customers, so I'm not sure why. I ordered the filet med-rare and it came out quiet rare. I had to send it back and I noted to the waitress to make sure they do not cook it med, but be sure to stop at med-rare. It came back very medium! So, I sent it back again... third time they FINALLY got it right. If you're going to pay $25 for a filet, it better be right! Then I wanted dessert and espresso thereafter. She served my espresso and never took my dessert order and I couldn't very well let my espresso get cold as I waited... so, I just left without dessert. It was VERY disappointing. They didn't really do much to compensate me. I won't go back.

Our experience at Kona Grill was sub-par. For starters we were sat at a tiny table next to the kitchen, other than that the ambiance of the restaurant seemed nice enough but the food was nothing to write home about. We had several different sushi choices, each was average. We also tried the diablo shrimp which was poorly described on the menu, it should have read "shrimp prepared like hot wings" and the avocado egg rolls which were very bland without the dipping sauce.
A bad choice on our part, we decided to split a dessert too, the creme brulee "infused" with passion fruit, it was a very artificial tasting flavoring and the creme brulee was so saturated with the flavoring that is all you could taste.

Not recommended at all.

My husband and I went there for lunch the other day and, as a vegetarian, I was supprised that I found such yummy things to have. My husband had the sushi, which he said was very tasty and fresh! I had a salad and the avacado eggrolls...Yummy! We'll have to venture there for dinner some night.

Pros: Good lunch prices and very tasty food. Neat fishtank!

Cons: Interior is pretty run of the mill, nothing special and seatings isn't very great.

We were there for lunch last week and we were one of the first to be seated. Our food came out late and my son's pizza was burnt. They took off the price of the pizza, but it was all really bad. We had to wait so long for food that was hardly edible. The manager knew of the situation, but only took off the price of the pizza which my son could not eat. It seems this must happen a lot. People around us sat after us by at least 15 minutes and they got their food first. My family and I will not be returning. The manager should have done more since we waited so long. He didn't seem to care.

Get there early because it gets crowded, and has limited bar area and outdoor seating. Wine least is above average, and reasonably priced especially for happy hour. Four people walked away with a $49 tab, with one drink and ample bar menu eats for each of us. The spicey tuna, and smoke salmon maki were good but not awe inspiring. The two sake offerings are not great. The one I had was ginjo, but made in California. It had better flavor closer to room temperature instead of chilled as presented.

The happy hour from 4 - 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. - midnight has great drink specials ($1.99 margaritas) and half-price appetizers (sushi included.) The outside patio features a fire pit, but it can be tough to find a table outside, especially in the summer. I've also eaten in the restaurant, but the happy hour is much better.

As a chain restaurant goes, the Kona is as good as any. Nice food, served with care and drinks with nothing to complain about. The best thing this place has is the patio, in the Winter. The fireplace and outdoor heaters pared with the people that wander by, make this a wonderful-wonderland. With summer coming, I'm sure the patio will offer the same great place to people watch . Denvers pretties and sports people, use the vallet parking at the edge of this patio. Get there early or be prepared to wait it out for one of the fireside seats.
