We visited Cool River on a Tuesday evening for dinner. The meal was neither outstanding, nor unsavory. The desserts, however, were divine. I was just expecting more from a hyped restaurant that beckons with dark wood decor, large staircase, and white tablecloths. The waitress was responsive and attentive.

Cool River is a great spot to visit when you are in the DTC. The nightlife is great and the food is even better. I recently stopped in for some drinks and appetizers and was surprised by the delicious happy hour appetizer menu...what a great deal! I will be back soon.

Pros: delicious appetizers

Cons: it's not open 24/7!

Everytime I've been there, the staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I've had the chance to meet both their GM, Joe, and one of their chefs, Tish, and it always seems like I am the most important person in the restaurant! :o)

The Lamb, Venison, and Filets are always fantastic! Excellent wine list as well.

Anyway, I seem to have become a regular, so maybe I'm a little partial, but give 'em a shot. I think you'll like it.

To Start our evening we were greeted by an inviting and knowledgeable waitstaff. The filet and wine pairing were on spot. I opted for the Filet Oscar, it seemed to just melt in my mouth. Our waiter seemlessly timed everything. There was never a want or need. This is my new favorite restaurant.

If you want to be treated like the most important person in the room, then go to Cool River. Not only is the food to die for (the Devils Advocate shrimp is amazing), but the service and staff really make you feel special. They go above and beyond for special occasions. Business banquets couldn't be more flawless. Our holiday party was in one of their private rooms and it was the perfect, effortless experience.

My friends and I go here once in a while on Friday night for drinks

Good professional crowd, good live music, more seating than on previous visits.

After a few good drinks, our last one was skimpy. I'm not sure if our 20 year old waitress spilled them, but my friend barely got 2 sips of Grand Marnier. After mentioing it to the waitress, she just looked at it puzzled. Not good considering what they charge for drinks.

Also, a distinct smell of sewer problems near the bathroom. Not good for even a neighborhood restaurant let alone an upscale one.

Cool River Cafe is located in the heart of the Denver Tech Center. The meals are expensive but the food is great. The atmosphere is lively but definitely very upscale. If you like to get dressed up, this is the place for you. If you are looking for more of a relaxing chill experience, this might not suit you well.

If your goal for the evening is to dress up, dance with friends, and get ogled by men old enough to be your grandpa, then this is YOUR bar. I've been several times, and maybe I'm just too young to appreciate all the bar has to offer, but I feel dirty when old men hit on me...

This is a "cool" place to hang on a Friday night. They have a decent menu, not too pricey and it's a bar, so they draw the happy hour crowd. They have a separate area for pool tables and dancing too.

My new husband and I had our wedding reception at Cool River on a Saturday afternoon and it couldn't have been nicer. The staff was so attentive and the atmosphere was wonderful. We chose to have a cocktail reception and the appetizers were fantastic! I would recommend Cool River to anyone looking to have a small get together!

My wife and I eat out a ton, mostly at high-end restaurants, and we enjoy a unique experience. We were in the tech center area and wanted to try something new, as we usually choose Yia Yia's or J Alexanders when we are down there. We chose Cool River since we hadn't tried it, and were EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED!

The gut-wrenching aroma from the cigar room hits you before you even get through the door - nasty way to try to eat a $35.00 steak with a $100 bottle of wine. Speaking of wine, I don't mind paying for it, but when about 85% of the wine list is over $75 bucks, you know the place is trying to prove something, and its not that they can choose good wine for all. My NY Strip was pretty good, cooked just right, but other than that it was not special. My wife had THE WORST crab cakes she had ever had - doughy and bland and generally disgusting. My daughter really wanted the lobster tail - it was so dry and overcooked that she could not finish it - our waitress did notice it, however, and removed it from the bill without us asking, which was great!

Overall, there are much better choices in this price range. But maybe this is what you get with steak places in Denver (except Sullivan's) - you get OK food, nice atmosphere (if you can ignore cigar smoke) and a check that would pay for a weeks worth of groceries at Whole Foods. My grill keeps looking better and better for steak night!

Cool River was more like a cold shower than a cool ocean breeze...

Pros: Nice room, spacious, good wine if you have $100 to spend on it

Cons: CIGARS!!, below average food, kinda slow

Cool River...HA! 2 star dining...maybe. The food is disgusting and the management horrible. Cool river talks a lot of talk about being the best and what they really are is average. I ate the crab cakes as an appetizer and not even hours later I was sooo sick. I have always heard of rumors of people getting sick from their food, but never believed them, until I wanted to die from those god-awful canned crab, crab cakes. I was talking to my server, I believer her name was Jennifer, or Jenny, but she told me the most horrible stories about having to work non-stop and that her managers really didn't care about anyone of them and overheard them say that everyone here is dispensible. I didn't believer her at first because she just seemed like your typical cocktail waitress, blonde and all, but when I called the next day to tell them I got sick from their food, the female manager apologized and said they would send me a free appetizer card! Yeah, like that's what I wanted! Maybe Cool river should stop trying to impress people, and look at their core as a whole restaurant. Terrible! Don't ever go...I wont again that's for sure

I've been going to Cool River for a few years now and have never been disappointed. This is actually my favorite place to bring my boss (a discerning wine and food critic) when he comes to town.

The Capper with the gorgonzola cream sauce is hands down #1 if you are in the mood for a very flavorful filet. Be sure to try something from their extensive wine list to complement your meal.

I haven't spent much time in their bar/lounge area, however it appears to be a nice gathering place for an afterwork cocktail.

I've been to Cool River 3 or 4 times for lunch and I always forget how bad it is until I go back. Like today for instance, I went there again for lunch (it's convenient to walk there from my work) and was AGAIN disappointed. We sat out on the patio and there were only 4-5 tables of people at a time and 2 servers working the patio. As usual, services was sllooooooooowwww. We got the bread basket after sitting there about 15 min. Then we waited another 15 min. for our food. I think 30 min. is too long on a slow lunch day. The food - as usual - was very mediocre and overpriced. $13 for a cesar salad that doesn't even have a real chicken breast on it, just some icky shaved chicken? Come on! I got it this time...I WON'T be going back again. I must say though that I can't comment on the dinner because I've only been there for lunch. Lets just hope it's much better! Especially for the price they charge. And another thing, every time I walk in there, there's a funky odor...ew!

Been going to Cool River for years for drinks and munchies. The ambiance is great: big leather chairs, fireplace, and the restaurant looks cool too. Always happy to sit in the cigar bar, we were glad that it would still be a place for us to hang out after the smoking ban. To our surprise, I was told that I could not smoke a cigarette inside the premises, even though my husband was smoking a cigar right next to me. I was told to go outside, in the snow, to smoke. While I understand that limits must be set, but when in the company of a cigar smoker, exceptions should be made. We found other places allow it, and will not return to Cool River.

Since I work in the Tech Center, I often have the pleasure to enjoy a nice, juicy steak at Cool River. The service I have received has always been excellent, the steak actually comes with a choice of side and salad (included in the price!) which is a refreshing change from always having to buy things ala carte. I prefer to stick with the basics at Cool River. The New York Strip and Filet Mignon are always right on the mark, and the wine list to compliment the meal is extensive and full of great selections for all budgets. The bar is a little dated, and I actually prefer to go here for dinner not so much to hang out in the bar which can be a little cheesey and full of tragically over fashioned people. But don't let that deter you from a great meal in the dining room. The Devil's Advocate (BBQ Shrimp wrapped in bacon) are a perfect way to start your meal. For the money, you can't find a better steak in Denver. As far as parking goes, try going around to the back of the building.. don't use the front lot. Always works for me. And they do have complimentary valet so it's really not a big problem.

Pros: Great Steak, Nice Dining Room, Friendly Staff - Not snooty.

Cons: Steer clear of the Bar. Go there to eat.

I've been here for happy hour on Friday night. Prices were good but rather inconsistent from person to person for the same exact drink. e.g., jack and diet ranged in price from $3.75 to $4.25 to $4.50 depending on the bartender/waitress. This is definitely a yuppie bar and a good place to go if you're trying to meet nice professional people after work. The service from the wait staff is not the greatest. I've tried two appetizers--the calamari was rather blah but the nachos were fantastic. Each nacho was individually "loaded" which was a great change of pace from the usual bar nachos where all the good stuff is on the top layer and the bottom layer gets nothing. A huge downside to this place is lack of parking. Good luck getting a spot if you arrive to the plaza after 5:30 on Friday night.

Cool River is trendy, good looking crowd. You can actually meet here for a first date cocktail and decide to dine, cozy up together to shoot some pool, dance and let it hang loose, or just sit quietly at a booth or table and conversate.

The only part of this set up I find as a downside is that you must go all the way to the front door to check out balls for the pool tables located in the back....C'mon! It's crowded and that is a pain.

The martinis are good sized, not sure on the ounces, but at least it's a power drink for the money they set you back...

Great range of demographics...you can literally come as you are and have a good time, but it's more of a place to dress to impress...

Cool River Cafe is an excellent place to meet friends for drinks in its spacious bar or have an intimate dinner date by the fireplace in the dining room. The appetizer menu presents creative and tasty takes on traditional favorites; while the dinner menu offers a wide variety of surf and turf. Save room for the "Mile High" chocolate cake...a truly decadent dessert, and my personal favorite.
