BEST SUSHI IN TOWN! Staff is very friendly, and they offer some of the most presentable sushi in the area. I'll be back next week :)

I have been going to Sushi Den since it opened. Never had a bad meal here. Yes, it is expensive but it is the freshest, most creative sushi I have ever had. I've tried other sushi restaurants and they just don't measure up to Sushi Den.

If you are going to criticize the service at one of the top sushi restaurants in the country, you might want to tell us why you are making this claim. Otherwise, without any example of your experience, it makes you appear like you have some sort of gripe against the business. There is a reason why you have to wait for a table at Sushi Den and Izakaya Den - they are popular due to the quality of food and service. I have lived in the neighborhood for 13 years. I have never been dissatisfied with Sushi Den or their newer restaurant, Izayaka.

I feel that The Sushi Den has fallen prey to the temptation to raise prices while lowering the size of their portions (or have the customers fallen prey)? I used to love "the den" but have been there two times recently and have been very disappointed. The quality is still okay but the portions have been reduced while the prices have continued to rise. I gave it a second chance after my first experience just to give them another shot as it used to be one of my favorite sushi joints. In my opinion they are taking advantage of their reputation as "the place to be seen" and the loyal customers are the losers. If you want to be seen or make an impression on a date it's the place to go but I feel there are better places for the sushi. I lived in Japan for 4 years and know my sushi. My choice for the best sushi is Sushi Ukoro in Golden on Colfax. I actually had a friend recently tell me she didn't like how BIG the portions were. Too hard to bite...WHAT? :-) They also do a fantastic job dressing the rolls with very interesting ingredients. Their other Japanese selections are fantastic also.

Our server was rushed and never came to our table ready to take her time and explain the menu. She always had other customer's food/drinks in her hands when she stopped by. She filled up our water to an extreme, interrupting conversations and filling the glasses to the rim with ice, not water n (8 times). We had to ask 4 times to wine glasses for all of us. We didn't receive one of the rolls we ordered. She forgot our edamame until we asked her mid dinner. When we got the check she had made a few mistakes on it and gladly fixed them, but hovered while we all decided on the tip. She came by 4 times to see what we were writing and as soon as we were done she picked it up and took it to her manager and complained. While we were walking out he approached us and asked if there were issues. Not only was the service bad but the fish was consistently warm in the sushi and the amount of rice in the rolls was overwhelming. The restaurant was packed and the tables were nearly touching. I think this is another case of a good restaurant gone bad...trying to pack in the people and make an extra buck by thinning out the fish with rice. My suggestion, go to sushi sasa or go to den on a Monday or Tuesday early to get the service you deserve.

I have only been here once but it is one of the best, if not the best in denver! The fish is fresh and the rolls are prepared perfectly. We sat at the bar which was a fun experience. Don't forget to try a piece of freshly made banana pie after the main course, it is great!

I must admit this is not the best sushi I've had, however it is most definitely the best sushi I've had since moving to Denver two years ago. We tend to bypass the usual wait for a table and head to the bar where you will find the most knowledgable, friendly, amazing bartenders ever! Not only do they know exceptional wine and incredible sake, but they also recommend the most amazing entrees on the menu. We always leave extremely satisfied. I can't imagine going anywhere else in the Denver are for sushi and drinks, including Sushi Sasa.

We came into eat a few weeks ago and I have been meaning to write this review so here it is. It was our 3rd time in to the den. And this last experience has topped all my dining experiences ever. We sat in front of Nathan who is fairly new and he had some of the most creative items I have ever eaten. Were not much for rolls but he made us a few that were incredible. Myself and my wife are more sashimi and nigiri eaters and he made the nigiri so perfectly that it was beyond words. We will with out a doubt be back.

My boyfriend and I used to be great fans of sushi den and izakaya den. The food is usually good but the service is so awful it ruins the rest of the experience. Do not go here if you want good service, which you should be receiving in a sushi restaurant.

Best sushi in the DU area. We eat there almost every week and love it. Personable atmosphere and the food is second to none. It?s like riding a roller coaster, the anticipation drives you nuts, waiting for a table, and then you sit down and order some fish and sake and can't complain about a thing, except the thrill. Make sure you check these guys out! Make the trip, enjoy yourself. Old South Pearl brings small town living in downtown Denver? and Sushi Den is the place to start; friendly, decent prices and delicious!

I have been a frequent diner of Sushi Den for 5 years. From late night quiet dinners, to jam packed Fridays at 7pm, I have always found the staff to be very informative, even through the hecticness of the dinner rush. Not the most warming, but still knowledgeable about everything I was eating, to the point I've once or twice handed the menu right back and let them decide my dinner, and haven't been disappointed to this date. The atmosphere itself is an experience. Servers yelling out "Sushi order!", throwing down a ticket just to be countered with the chef yelling "Sushi ready!", beautiful single women coming through the door by the dozen. To this date one of my favorite places, wether I want to grab a bite to eat, just drink, or just stop in to say hi to the bartender. Traditionally untraditional.

Its terrible, from the not so fresh "flown in daily" fish to the snooty atmosphere. You should have something to be snooty about before acting like it! No reservations, the sushi chefs are rude and cold (as the rest of the staff). Skip it and head to the very welcoming sushi sasa!

Just moved from LA and finding a good sushi restaurant was a challenge. Sushi Den tops our list. The food and experience was overall good. However, I wish the Sushi chefs would "liven up." We enjoy sitting at the sushi bar because the sushi chefs give more attention, and get a lot more creative with the dishes / sushi you order. But that wasn't the case...Ok, but our main server was indeed attentive and helpful. We wished they had music throughout the restaurant too. This would really be an added bonus to the whole ambiance. I recommend to valet park because it is free and convenient. The wait wasn't too bad on a Saturday night. We waited approx. 30 minutes, and this place dies out earlier than LA....about 10:30 pm, when happy hours starts. The location is in a neighborly kind of residence, which gives you no option to go anywhere else to have fun.

To sum it up...An urban critter crawled on our table. Management squashed it, walked away and gave us our check(no discount) as if nothing happened. Before that, our server took 30 mins to greet us and proceeded to carelessly serve us throughout the night.

There are better sushi restaurants around denver...Sushi den is well OVERRATED! Two stars for yummy fish.

I am an event coordinator for a local social club in Denver. I set up a monthly sushi dinner at a different sushi restaurant and was very excited to try the Sushi Den, since it had the reputation for "the best sushi in Denver". Yesterday I called to confirm my reservation for 25 people and they didn't have it. They then proceeded to tell me that they would have to charge me a room fee and a percentage of our total bill. I refused and said that NOTHING was said to me about a room fee, otherwise I would have never have booked a room there. He said he would wave the fee but wouldn't promise our table to be ready at 4:45. That was fine, we could have a drink at the bar while we waited for the table. During our drinks the manager said our table was ready and that we would all have to be on one bill. Typically when our group goes the management is kind enough to let us split up into groups of 4 or 5, with 25 people this is definitely difficult with a sushi order! So I go to the hostess to have her take us to the room and she said she wouldn't seat us until 15 people were there. It's 5 at night, rush hour I know people will be late but she would rather have 13 people stand by the bar instead of enjoying our room and looking over the menu. I finally got her to take us to the room. Nice decor, nice servers. The sushi was very overpriced and nothing outstanding compared to some other sushi restaurants we have visited. Overall I would save your money and go to Japon on a Monday where it's happy hour all day, or Opal that has an exceptional happy hour every day until 7:30.

I went to Sushi Den last Thursday, and it was the first time I'd tried anything from their "cooked" menu.

I understand that Friday night is "take the woman of the week that I really am trying to impress night" but Sushi Den was CRAZY last Friday! Although I can't complain it was funny to see 50+ men with comb-overs attempting to make conversation with short skirted 25-30 somethings with store bought cleavage, this combo always is good for excellent people watching.

Cons: The wait was 1 hour and 15 minutes (but it was Friday), one of my friends ordered something and didn't get it (after two bottles of Sake we didn't really notice).

We ordered some sashimi for dessert and they had ran out of the particular fish that we had requested, so we told our waiter to "surprise us" he ended up surprising us with the most expensive sashimi on the menu (by most expensive I mean DOUBLE the average sashimi price) I thought that this was in poor taste. Also the atmosphere was very loud and cluttered

Pros: Since the wait was so long we got to go 2 doors down to BBs and had a couple of drinks and listened to some music.

The food was excellent! The rolls were made with precision; piled with ingredients with excellent rice. The Sashimi was very fresh and since Colorado is a land locked state I give major points for freshness.

On the whole it was a great way for me and my friends to begin our evening. I would recomend going on a Tuesday, if you are really trying to impress someone!

These comments about "beautiful people" and "the place to be seen" are hilarious.

Sushi Den is just a fun place to go talk, have fun and eat some good sushi. If you do not like Sushi Den then you are just too old or just too conservative to have fun anywhere. The prices are great considering the atmosphere and the experience. Sushi Den is a great representation of Denver.

Everything is always great. The food and staff are perfect just the way they are. It is loud and busy because it is a blast. If you think it takes to long for the food to arrive than you're there with the wrong people.

Sushi Den is the restaurant my brother and sister in law bring me every time I'm in Denver (I live in Seattle where sushi RULES!!!). The first few times I was impressed by the modern beautiful decor because I'm used to a more traditional sushi house. The sushi was innovative and fresh...downright delicious! But the last few times we've been, I have been very disappointed. The wait time is excruciating (bring walking shoes so you can wander around the cute neighborhood to waste time), the staff that "greets" you is very unfriendly, and the service is extremely slow. Seems like the wait staff has a big turnover, because we always have a new waiter. I'd rather go to a good traditional sushi house where I'm treated with Japanese friendliness, and bypass the scenesters and snobs that go to Sushi Den.

Cons: wait time is insane, service is slow

.

I have avoided going back to Sushi Den since my first experience there when I lived nearby. The staff was rude, sushi average, and environment uncomfortable and loud. There is always a wait, which is especially annoying at 8:00pm on a Tuesday, but that's neither here nor there. The only reason I went back there was because someone bought me a gift certificate. So we arrived and the hostess did not acknowledge us for fifteen minutes. She was rude rude rude rude rude. Once we got seated our server was that great though the chef was nice. The sushi took forever and was extremely overpriced. It seems like people go there for the feature of "beautiful people" which is one of the dumber things I've heard about a restaurant these days anyways. "Oh let's go to that place where all those beutiful people go for some sushi." Where are we, LA?

Pros: Green Tea ice cream

Cons: Slow service, rude hostess, crowded seating

... 30 bucks later left starving for IHOP! Noisy, way too busy with grown up kids that appear to think that this is the "cool" place to be ? no thank you.

Pros: Have something to eat before going there or be sushi at any price fan!

Cons: Noisy, Chaotic, disorganized, overpriced etc?

Sushi Den is fine but it's not the end all be all of sushi. It's constantly packed and there are constantly lines and I can't figure out why except that someone decided that it was an 'in' place to go. There are better options in Denver where you don't have to step around a Hummer to get to the door. The management is indifferent to their clientele and it's painfully obvious that their only motivating factor is money. Their fish is fresh, but it's hardly inventive or distinctive. The last time I was in, I was seated promptly and had an adequate server, but the spider roll was ... I don't know how else to say it - 'off'. It wasn't good. I have better places to spend my money.

Pros: Tons of seating

Cons: It's not about the fish, it's about the crowd

.

There's a good reason why this place is so damn popular -- the food is terrific. When friends want to go there, I sometimes dread the crowded restaurant. But, by the time I'm eating, I'm so glad I'm there. You don't have to pay this much for sushi, but you're really getting a great evening. If you can eat here on a weeknight or an off-hour, you can probably avoid the worst of the crowds. Definitely worth trying if you've never been there. Then, after dinner, go across the street to the coffee shop.

Cons: Frequently packed to the gills.

Sushi is da bomb here! Fresh and slides down your throat with no fishy smells, I love it! I don't recommend getting the spicy Seafood Pasta, not very good in my opinion. Go for the sushi and ambiance.

the is the best place to go for sushi, hands down in denver for the TOTAL dining experience. now, i am a sushi lover, and i will say that there are other places in denver that rival sushi den if you want a quick bite, if you want to chill with friends, or if you want to skip ambience and skimp on service. however, sushi den is by far the best place to really dine for sushi. besides the long wait on fridays and saturdays (reservations are not taken) the night is perfect. i love the ambience of the sushi den, the flow of the restaurant is very comforting. the service is always excellent, and the staff is very very knowledgeable regarding any sushi related question you might have. they also make the best extra dirty grey goose martinis in denver.

Competes with Sushi Sasa for best fish, but is such a scene that if you don't go on 'off' hours, its a long wait...service and staff are excellent, though. Its worth the effort for the fantastic fish. Now that they have upgraded thier wine list, its even better than before.

Good sushi, but pricy. Had a long wait, but very trendy. Expect to valet park. More of a date restaurant.

Sushi rolls excellent, entrees of Ahi and Scallops also excellent. Wait was predicted at 7 PM to be 25-30 min, but was 40 min. Was there on Tuesday,8/22/2006, my birthday. The main problem at 7:40 PM was the extreme noise by mobs of peope seated and queuing 3-deep at the bar just behind our table. There was a window table, empty but not yet cleaned when we were seated 2 tables out from it, which I requested to wait for, but was told we couldn't have it. Five min. later, Tom Strickland, well-known candidate for Senate, appeared at that table with his daughter. We did not see him waiting outside or inside when we went in. I voted for him twice, and introduced myself. Obviouslty preferential seating!

My main complaint was the NOISE, which I would estimate at about 90 DECIBELS , and which actually hurt our ears!

Weather was pleasant outside, with a cool breeze that evening, and there were benches available. The socialites patronizing businesses North of Den hogged the sidewalks as if they owned them. We had parked 1 1/2 blks NW on a side street. Hate Valet Parking.

If you can tolerate the see and be seen atmosphere on the sidewalk and inside the restaurant, it is excellent food. Previously we have always gone at opening time, and were seated immediatly. I would not call it an intimate dining experience, given that I could hear the people at the table to our right shouting at each other in order to communicate. Best to go there during high time and not expect to have a conversation with your companion.

The best sushi in Denver. Only downside is that they don't take reservations so it can be quite a long wait. Go during the week, as the wait is less, or arrive right when they open.

I have heard about Sushi Den from so many people.
I am from Japan, so I know what the true sushi is.
Simply stated, the standard of this sushi bar is just like what I know in Japan.
It was so busy when I visited. With the number of people they serve, fish must move so quickly. No wonder their sushi is far better than any sushi bar I visited in Denver.

dine there last nite because of friend's birthday. Very unimpress. They maybe popular but that doesn't mean they are good. Expensive and not very friendly. We dined in the back room ... say no more There are plenty of sushi restaurants in Denver and why does everyone want to go to sushi den ...
