Some things don't change, & Woody Creek is one of them. The same "leopard" fleece capes still remain on pegs at the entrance for you to don in case it's cold while you're waiting outside. The same waitresses still put their arms around you & tell you what you should order. The same happy throngs still fill the tavern 7 days a week.

We took two young friends there last night & by the middle of the meal they were already asking for a repeat visit. Two of us had large house salads, all organic, with the house dressing prior to our limousin beef hamburgers, served with great slaw. My husband listened to the waitress & thought he'd died & gone to heaven. The tamales were spectacular. This was soul food at its best. On the plate with it was both spanish rice and black beans. The other entree ordered was a chicken enchilada platter with black beans and it also was spectacular.

The meal ended with organic coffee (accompanied by a card explaining how organic coffee is harvested & why it's important to patronize farmers who do so) and no dessert. Everyone was too full but they sounded great.

No credit cards are taken.

Favorite place to snag a peek at local legend Hunter S Thompson, until he sadly recently departed. Great hang-over items on the menu. Plenty of spicy menu items. Funky atmosphere. Nice outdoor patio. I enjoyed visiting there and the food was satisfactory. Visit the store next door. When pot pie is available there, its absolutely wonderful.
