I have had 2 recent experiences at Platte Valley Medical Center. The first was my Grandmother Being dizzy and falling at home. She is 87 years old. She was talked about like she wasn't in the room.It took 22 minutes for the Na/RN to answer her light. (after shutting it off repeatedly). They didn't realize she had family in the room is what we were told. She was at one point told to be quiet and go to sleep. Most surprising to all of us rest assured. The second was a friend of mine who insisted I take her in as she was having problems breathing and a heaviness in her chest. Even though she was prime heart attack age they did not check her heart once. They told her she had bronchitis and gave her some prescriptions then sent her home. I work in another Hospital in the Denver area and can tell you that's not the way we do things. We talk to our patients even if we believe they can't understand. We have a one minute period to answer call lights or respond in someway to that person. We have rules in our ER that say if you are having chest pain we will respond to that immediately. No second guessing you .And we by law must provide the best care available even if you don't have insurance. I did not see that at this Hospital. My friend does not have insurance and was extremely sick but they hounded her about who was going to pay the bill and how much money could she give them. There seems to be a real lack of compassion at this place.I sincerely hope they iron out the kinks in the system sooner than later.

Ratings_icons Platte Valley...Death Valley??

Carol R.

My adult daughter was sent there her assisted living facility not once but twice for breathing problems. Her oxygen was 65. 80 is too low. They did nothing but give her oxygen to get her sats back up to 90 and sent her back to her assisted living. They told her to stay on her oxygen. She has a mental illness and did not stay on her oxygen....she said it kept falling out of her nose. The second time the assisted living called for an ambulance to take her to Platte Valley they refused!! Because she had not been compliant the first time with her oxygen they didn't want her. The nurse at the assisted living finally called St Anthony North in Westminster. An ambulance came to take her. She was admitted on May 11th. She passed away on July 5th!! Why didn't Platte Valley see the seriousness of her breathing problems?? Anyone with sats of 65 needs to be admitted to the hospital and forced to go on oxygen if they can't or won't!! I think my child would still be alive if Platte Valley would have done what they were supposed to do in the first place and help my child. I have heard that they have refused other people from this particular assisted living place.

Ratings_icons good for adults

I had the unfortunate need of having to take my daughter to the ER. I thought that since Platte Valley was close that we would go there. I will not make that mistake again. At the time my daughter was 10 months old and they didn't have a pediactric doctor and said that they would just swing it with the regular dr. If I do ever have to take my kids to the ER again we will not be returning to Platte Valley.

PROS: clean ER, nice staff
CONS: not prepared enough to treat infants

Ratings_icons The only hospital, emergency room in Brighton

Carol H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,700

This emergency room is clean, sanitary, staffed adequately for different needs, and in a small hospital for support equipment (X-ray, lab,PT, etc). I had an emergency trip there on a Sunday and felt adequately cared for by nurses & doctor. I'm glad it's in Brighton.

PROS: location
CONS: billing dept
