This place is consistently good, but pricey! they have a courteous staff, good food, served hot and beautifully. Their lounge is also great with a beautiful fireplace, and they have a hearty appetizer menu that does me well for a full meal. Their outdoor seating overlooks the city of Denver and you are encouraged to linger. It's quiet and great place to converse.

Simms Landing has great views and good service. The seafood is wonderful and the nautical theme is inviting. It is a great place to go with family and bring home many memories that last for years.

Ratings_icons Still a great place for special nights

I have eaten at simms several times over the years, and the last trip was every bit as good as the first. I end up eating the same here, not because i am not adventurous but because the dover sole is perfect. Always flakey, and have never had a bad experience here. The wine list is excellent, and the deserts are out of this world. I can not afford to eat here frequently, but do at every opportunity. Plenty of parking, and the perfect place to take a date for a "romantic" evening

It appears that all of these ratings are for Simms Landing, which is now Simms Steakhouse. The decor is new and chic, creating a wonderful ambience with spectacular views of the city. The food is much improved, but there is still room for some improvement and the staff is wonderful! Apparently the GM of Simms Landing was not well liked (according to reviews; never met him) but the new Simms Steakhouse GM is extremely hands on and accomodating.

Highly recommend!

We were great fans of Simms Landing in the past. Our recent visit since they have switched to Simms Steakhouse was met with great disappointment. Our waiter was slow to come to the table, slow to take our order and slow to bring the food, which was received "cold". Our waiter suggested drinks, then would come back to our table saying "I'm sorry, we don't have that". This went on three times. The only thing worth the over 200.00 price tag was the view!

Pros: Still has the greatest view

Cons: Food Quality

In the quest for one more great night of dinner, we fell upon Simm's Landing. The reviews seemed promising, as did the atmosphere of the restaurant once we entered. The service was good to begin with, although the menu did seem a bit expensive. When we ordered, we were asked whether we wanted soup or salad (sounded like it came with the meal). My husband ordered a New York Strip (Medium Rare), and I ordered a Seafood Pasta. We also had the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The mushrooms were mediocre (lukewarm, smothered in just dijon mustard, and flavorless). The salads ($12--the ones we thought came with the entree...) were terrible! They were extremely expensive big piles of lettuce (no cheese or meat). The ranch dressing wasnt even impressive. My husband's steak came, and while again OK tasting, it was purple on the inside! It was barely cooked. My seafood pasta was seasoned terribly. I could only taste the herbs, and the mussels had a bizarre flavor too them. We are both originally east coasters, and definitely know great seafood, and this was definitely not the case. The bill came to 90 dollars, and we were definitely unsatisfied overall. We had great dinners in downtown denver both nights before this one, and highly recommend you taking your money elsewhere. There are too many great restaurants in Denver to waste your money and taste-buds on this mediocre restaurant.

I must say I'm confused by the negativity in the previous reviews . I've been going to Simms for ten years . The service has always been impeccable and the food wonderful. My mother has special food allergies and Chef Chris even came to the table to discuss a special dish with her. I have never had any other restaurant do that.

Pros: The Chef

Cons: None

Visited Simms Landing on Oct 30 for my mom's 75th bday. They cooked 3 out of 3 steaks wrong. Baked potatoes were cold & dried out. Forgot the mushrooms on the steak. Forgot to bring us bread. Waited an hours & asked repeatedly for a glass of water. Service was extremely slow. Wouldn't go back. Way too much money to spend for bad service & food. Only good thing was the view from the restaurant.

Ratings_icons Bad All Around!

I have been to Simms Landing a few times over the years, and it used to be half decent. The last time we ate there for the Sunday Brunch Buffet it was mediocre at best, but last night some friends and I decided to give it one more try. It took 15 minutes for our server to come to our table and take our drink order, at which point she quizzed us with "How old are you?" and made everyone go around the table and state their age, rather than simply asking for ID. Bizarre. The lobster bisque came out cold with a skin on top! We sent it back and told them to forget it, not wanting to risk micro waved $8 soup. When we asked for bread we were informed that the new cook had badly burned the last batch, so we would have to wait, which did not give us high hopes for the rest of the meal. Our entrees finally arrived after another half hour. My boyfriend ordered his tuna blackened, which it clearly was not. When we told the server, she replied with a disbelieving "Really?" but never offered to correct it. The $22 prime rib and crab leg special was disappointing, the thinnest piece of prime rib I've ever seen and soggy crab legs. When we ordered a second bottle of wine, the server came out with a completely different bottle, explaining that they were out of what we had ordered. She did not bring new glasses, did not present the wine, or even serve the wine, but simply opened the bottle and left it on the table. We ended up having to send it back, as it was undrinkable. The manager then came over and offered us free dessert. At that point we just wanted to get out of there, and certainly didn't want any more of their awful food, so we declined. He gave us our $10 appetizer for free instead, which was hardly compensation for the bad service and food. The total for 3 people was $130 after they "comped" us. This meal was definitely not worth the money and we will never go back to Simms Landing.

Pros: View

Cons: Service, food, parking

Ratings_icons THE WORST SERVICE

warden1

I've been to Simms Landing many times over the years, and in the recent years it's been terrible. I will never ever go back and recommend to anyone considering Simms that they find a higher class restuarant to spend their money at. I had reservations on my birthday for a window seat, was denied my seating accomodations, even though all window seating was open without explaination, was denied the dinner special saying it was discontinued, although others were ordering it, never received my drink from the bar, received our meal 45 minutes after ordering. When we complained to the manager she simply gave us one free desert and coupons for Sunday brunch. When we attemptd to use our Sunday brunch coupons they were refused, saying that it was a holiday (Father's Day) even though we had called to verify we could use them the Friday before and the coupons made no mention of invalid on holidays. They also upped their prices for Father's day without any advertisements or explaination. Which was was rude and sneaky. The buffet was a disappointment. Could have gotten the same food from County Buffet. They seated all non-rervations on a patio in the sun, although there was ample seating accomdations in the restaurant. They also discriminate against younger versus generations on seating, accomodations, and how the staff treats its guests. They make no efforts to make you comfortable. And the food is nothing like it used to be years ago. Simms is no longer the place to go. Within 3 months both experiences were the same: rude staff, rude management, disappointing food, service and seating. I encourage everyone to think twice before going! Don't waste your money. I'll never go back to Simms not even if it's the last restaurant out there.

Cons: Rude, Poor Service, Bad Accomodations, Average food

My check was a lower amount than what my credit card was ran for and the manager never apologized or offered to correct the problem and was very rude that I would question it BEWARE!

Ratings_icons Wonderful view, delicious food...

My family and I were visiting Denver for a long weekend, and my husband found this place in a magazine with a list of restaurants. We were staying across the street at the Sheridan, so for us it was very convienient. We went there and the view was unbelievable. We were seated promptly and the restaurant was beautiful. It was dimly lit so you could completely enjoy the view. For starters, we ordered the Simms Crab Cakes. They were delicious!! Those crab cakes were probably the best I've had in a very long time. My 3 year old even enjoyed them!! Next, my husband ordered the Prime Rib with a baked potato, we ordered a grilled cheese and fries (for my 3 year old), and I ordered the Shrimp Tempura. I ordered a Caesar salad with my entree, and I had to share it with my husband it was so huge. The dressing on the salad was superb! My husband enjoyed his prime rib, and the shrimp tempura was delicious, with a wonderful sauce to accompany the vegetables. They also had a good selection of desserts, but we were so stuffed we didn't get to try a dessert, but they looked scrumptious. When we go back to Denver, Simms Landing is definitely a place we will be eating at again!! YUMMY!

Pros: Beautiful view, romanitc, wonderful food

Cons: Tables were a little too fancy for small children

Ratings_icons Great happy hour, mostly good food

baconnic

I recently went to dinner with my coworkers at Simms Landing. We arrived at 5:30 so we sat on the patio for happy hour. Happy hour specials are great with $4.50 (maybe $4.95) apps, including a half dozen oysters and $2 to $2.50 drinks (wine, well, draft Coors Light). The oysters were great and the artichoke dip was not so great, a bit runny and needed a bit of spice.

When our party arrived we went into the dining room for dinner. The view for dinner was great as was the view for happy hour on the patio. The sourdough bread was wonderful, the salads were pretty good. We ordered six entrees and satisfaction varied. The people who ordered red meat were not overly impressed while those who ordered seafood or chicken were happy. I had the Sea Bass Napoleon and it was outstanding. The dessert tray is very tempting with a lot of great choices. We settled on the Tiramisu. The espresso and cappuccino were also very good.

Overall, a very good place to go to for seafood. The views are beautiful and the happy hour was very reasonable.

Ratings_icons Simm's Landing does not care about the handicapoped.

deenal

Please boycott Simm's Landing. I am in a wheelchair, and I rarely eat out. But I expect to have the same rights as everyone else. I don't. I went to Simms Landing for a dinner with my union group, and could not get in. They had only 2 handicapped spaces--if you did not get one, you have to go up a 15 degree slope. Then they have no ramps--even in places where it would be easy to put a ramp.

The manager, Bill, said that because they were grandfathered in, they did not have to have access. This shows an uncaring atittude toward custoemrs. There are simple, inexpensive fixes--designate the upper parking lot spaces as hadicapped and install a small ramp.

But I was humiliated and disappointed. Please do not support people who treat cusomers this way.

Ratings_icons WONDERFUL WEDDING or RECEPTION PLACE!

cacmc

My husband and I searched long and hard to find an establishment to hold our wedding reception a couple of months ago. After looking at what seemed like a hundred places, we finally settled on Simms Landing. Simms Landing has an absolutely GORGEOUS room they call the "Quarter Deck" where they host private parties and banquets. This is where we chose to have our reception for many reasons. the first reason, of course, was the incredible view. From the Quarter Deck (and the rest of the restaurant) Simms Landing has the most spectacular view of the Denver skyline I have ever seen. And surprisingly, the room rental fee was only $150 for the entire night! We are talking about a room that has a fireplace, is surrounded on all four sides with glass, the beautiful view, and sliding glass doors that open out to an equally large and impressive patio which shares the view.

On the night of our reception, we were very nervous as is expected, we wanted our night to be perfect in every way! The thing we were most confident about, however, was that the banquet manager at Simms Landing knew exactly how important this night was, had planned with us to the very last detail, and would make sure that everything would be just how we dreamed. Well, IT WAS! Actually, it was even more beautiful, romantic, and special than we had dreamed. When we got there, the servers-who were amazing by the way- were eagerly waiting for us and immediately began taking care of everyone. They made sure that our delicious hors deuvres were on the tables, our guests had fine wine and cocktails, and even the kids had kids cups with straws! The whole night was magical. We used the quarter deck and the lower patio, so we all could stroll inside and outside, looking at the view and the stars, candles were lit everywhere, the room was decorated exactly like we wanted it, the food was unbelievably good, and our needs were exceeded in every way by the service.

THANK YOU SIMMS LANDING!!

Pros: superior service, great food, great value, perfect special occasion place

Cons: can't think of any!

Ratings_icons Simm's Landing-Fine Dining???

corrie515

My husband and I went to Simm's Landing for dinner last week and the only good thing about our experience was the view. The manager was less than friendly when seating us and the waiter never told us about the specials (I heard server's around me talking about specials). I ordered a glass of red wine that came in a glass that was filthy! When the waiter came to take our order, I asked for a new glass and when he left the table, he left the dirty glass in front of me. He brought my husband's drink and needed to be reminded about my wine. We had been sitting at our table for 35 minutes before getting anything to eat. Tables around us had bread, but I did not even get the salad I ordered. Our entrees arrived and my husband did not receive what he had ordered. When we told the waiter, he checked his ticket to make sure we were telling the truth. The manager brought his meal out a few minutes later and made a fairly insincere apology. My food, prime rib and shrimp, was mediocre at best and only lukewarm. The waiter came back to the table and offered us a free dessert to compensate for the wrong order. I told him we did not have time for dessert and he offered to box something up for us. After years of working in restuarants, I know that offering a customer something they don't really want as compensation for a bad meal doesn't really work. Having waited tables I can forgive alot, but when I am going to a restaurant that is supposedly a "fine dining" restaurant I expect cleanliness, delicious food, and good service. I will never again dine at Simm's Landing. If you want to enjoy the view, have a drink and move on to somewhere else for dinner.

Pros: View

Cons: Service, food, and cleanliness

Ratings_icons Great view, Great food and service

I regularly eat at Simms Landing when I wish to show a freind or relative the best of denver. I find the service excellent and the food always prepared as I wish. The building sits atop a hill overlooking Denver and the surrounding area. I expecially enjoy sitting on their deck and enjoying their happy hour. The happy hour foods and drinks are unequaled in price and I enjoy the sellections offered. The landscaping is also a big factor. The flowers, both annuals and perinials make for a wonderful setting. May I suggest Simms Landing if you have never been their. I think that you will not be dissatisfied.

Pros: The view is spectacular and the menu offers something for everyone.

Cons: Can be busy at Sunday brunch.

My family and I dined here for brunch this Easter (2007) and let me say this place was way below my expectations. First off we had reservations and still waited over 30 minutes for a table in a standing room only waiting room. Then they stuffed our party of 6 in a table (against a wall) meant for 4. The whole restaurant was SO crowded that it was impossible to navigate and the buffet was constantly running out of certain items and the food really wasn't all that good. To make matters worse the manager (Johnnie) we made a complaint to was very rude and condescending. As a person that has tried brunches all over the metro area I can honestly say this was the worst experience I've had yet.

Pros: View

Cons: Bad Food, Rude Managment, Too Crowded

Ratings_icons Don't Bother

The only positive comment I have with regards to this restaurant was our waiter. He was very courteous and efficient.

Aside from that, it was the most miserable dining experience I have ever had. My family and I had the misfortune of dining at Simm's for the Easter buffet. Despite the fact that we had made reservations well in advance, we had to wait for over 30 minutes to be seated. As if this wasn't enough of an inconvenience, there was no place to wait. We had to stand like a bunch of sardines in a PACKED area. We finally managed to sit in a narrow walkway just outside of the men's restroom.

To make matters worse, my party of six and I were placed in a tiny, round table that was meant for no more than 4 people. The buffet was substandard and continually ran out of food. There was not enough room to even breathe in the buffet area. It was so bad, that I hardly ate despite the cost (it wasn't cheap). The food that I did manage to eat left much to be desired.

At the end of our meal, I asked to speak to a manager so that I could provide him/her with some feedback. A man named Johnny came over to speak with me. His attitude was extremely condescending. He seemed annoyed with my concerns and suggested that next time we not "dine with them on their second busiest day of the year."

Not to worry, I will never dine at Simm's again.

Pros: I wish I could give you one

Cons: Management, food, booking reservations inadequately

Well, the journey is over. I have been on this journey for the best seafood in Colorado. I've tried everything it seems, but nothing comes close to real good east-coast authentic seafood. Well, my opinion on that changed when I tried Simms Landing. The food here is simply amazing. A few people have left reviews saying that they weren't impressed. I HIGHLY recommend trying this place again. When we went the other weekend (Middle of October 2006) it was breathtaking. I told my server that the food was simply amazing and he made a comment saying that they just got rid of their old chef and hired a new guy. I guess he was a well-respected culinary arts teacher somewhere (can't remember where). I guess they got rid of the last guy because of complaints. Well, let me tell you... this new chef knows how to cook and he knows how to do it very VERY well. I assume that you guys that left poor reviews probably tried this place when the last chef was there because when we went the new (and improved) chef just started. I tried the european fish trio. If I remember right it had salmon, grouper and halibut cooked to perfection on top of delicious mashed potatoes served with steamed vegetables and rice pilaf. My wife tried a shrimp pasta. Both meals turned out excellent but I definitely would take the trio over the pasta any day. Service was excellent and the view was great. Very nice ambience, too.

I have heard about this restaurant a lot. We have been there twice for dinner and once for brunch. We received gift certificates otherwise we would not have gone back after the first time. The food was ok, but nothing to rave about. The brunch was very disappointing considering all the fuss made about it. I would rather have breakfast at Le Peep any day over this place. Yes the view is nice and the service was fine, but for the prices they have I was not impressed.

Pros: Great View, Easy parking

My husband and I have heard how great this restaurant was so we thought we would give it a try. We were so disappointed after our lunch and would never visit again. First for all, we were asked what we like to drink before we were seated. Secondly,The soda was flat with syrup tasting. We informed our waitress and she started making up all kinds of story about the soda gun. Third, our food was cold when it arrived. The salmon I order was a small piece with no nothing special. We were so disappointed with our visit. Both my husband and I spend $39 for lunch and we both walk out being hungry. It's bad enough that the service was terrible to make it worst the food was terrible as well. If anyone who likes to have an ejoyable lunch/dinner I suggest you pick another restaurant to try.

Pros: good parking, nice view, clean

Cons: portions are small, rude waitress, cold/bad food
