I had a problem with my Alpine 12-CD changer cartridge jamming in the unit. At one time DTR was an authorized warranty service center for Alpine Electronics & that should have been my first clue to what was going to happen. I talked with Alpine Electronics & was told that I should ship the unit to them with a $105.00 check for the repair. I thought I would give the local company my business instead. I called DTR & was told to bring the unit to them for repair. I was told there would be a $50.00 analysis fee that would be applied to any repair.

I drove to their service center & told the service desk that I was there to have my changer repaired. Thus began the saga of DTR's "customer service." I was told that I was supposed to have removed the unit from my car, not when I called but, at the service desk 15 miles from my home. Then, if you can imagine this, they expected me to leave & come back when the unit was removed which amounted to 60 miles of gas & travel. I know I must have had great expectations that they would help me remove the unit which required the removal of four phillips-head screws. They not only didn't offer that help but, I almost had to beg to use one of their tools. Silly me!! How could I actually expect a repair facility to have tools (shorty phillips screwdriver) to remove my unit or actually repair my electronics. After spending 15 minutes running down a tool to remove the unit I should have gotten the message right then but, since I was already there, I decided to go ahead & leave the unit for repair. I paid my $50.00 "analysis" fee & waited 6 days to get a call telling me that they didn't have the parts & couldn't get them anymore so I could come & pickup my changer without repair.

Instead of checking the model number of the unit against parts on hand & available for order before tearing the unit apart they did just that then charged me the $50.00 to "analyze" a DTR they should have known they didn't have ALL of the parts on hand for repair. I can't imagine how much they would charge to analyze an 8-track player repair. Nice way to scam people ou of $50.00. Now that I think about, as a retiree, I could just advertise that I repair all sorts of electronics, have them delivered to me, charge $50.00 for analysis and then call all of them back let them know I didn't have the parts to repair their item. In fact, I wouldn't even have to keep an inventory of parts on hand or know what parts are required anyway. Hmmm!! Food for thought.

This kind of service is probably why DTR is no longer an authorized service center for Alpine or who knows how many other electronics firms. As a side note, it seems odd that an in-home service call for a flat screen TV cost $10.00 less than the "analysis" I was charged as noted in a review Yelp.

I shipped a Onkyo receiver to them for repair. When you call to get a RMA number or to tell them your sending something for repair, all you get is a recording telling you to read the directions on the website. So I followed the directions and spent about $50.00 dollars the sent it in. I just checked the USPS tracking number and they refused the delivery and shipped it back.

I sent in my receiver and they repaired it perfectly. They also cleaned the entire unit which was above and beyond for a warranty repair. Turn around was quick considering how far I had to ship it. They do great work.

I recently turn in my Sony sub woofer that has been out of warranty for over 3 yrs. They gave me an estimate and an expected repair date. well to make a long story short they repaired my sub woofer 3 days faster than what they told me and the repair was cheaper than a new sub. Now my surround sound is back in business and sub is working and sounding better than ever.

Like some others my receiver has been in DTRs shop for over 2 months. I have called about every week and the only info I get is the parts are on order. I have received no communication from DTR except when I call them. Be aware of using this company as they offer absolutely unacceptable service!

I recently had a Onkyo HT-S6100 7.1 Channel Receiver repaired at DTR Technologies. I was worried that the unit may be very close to the warrantee expiration date. The DTR Customer Service helped expedite a work order allowing time for me to box-up the unit and ship it from Texas.

FEDEX notified me that my receiver was delivered to DTR on a Monday. On the following Monday I Emailed DTR Customer Service to make sure everything was in order with my repair request and if there are any unanswered questions. The next day DTR Customer Service Emailed that the repairs were completed and gave me a tracking number. The following day the repaired receiver was delivered to my house in a robust packing box in perfect condition.

I was very pleased with their service. In fact I was almost shocked how quickly they did the repairs. My receiver has been operating perfectly for a week now so I am confident that the repairs were successful.

I have had my DLP TV repaired under warranty a couple times by DTR and have been happy with their service. This time my TV was out of warranty. I did a little internet research and was 99% positive that my color wheel had gone out (only one of two moving parts). I called DTR and ask if that was the problem how much how much would it cost to replace. They refused to give me a quote over the phone saying that it would cost me $90 for a diagnosis. The tech came and quickly took the TV apart then he announce that the problem was the color wheel. How did he know? I asked him how he came to that diagnosis and he said that it had to be it based on the sound it was making. So why couldn''t they tell me that over the phone? That's what I paid $90 for! Then he called the office and announced it would cost $438 to fix. $130 for the part and an unbeleive $299 for 30 minutes of work. That works out to $600 an hour for labor! He said that was the flat rate cost for this repair. Why the flat rate cost? Why not charge me for the time it took? They may know what they are doing, but they are defintely overpriced. Beware!

Update: After complaining to DTR via email I did get a reply saying that flat rate pricing is how all repair companies work. So its a racket! Then he offered to knock off $100 on the labor just like that! So now they were willing to accept $199 for 30 minutes work. That's only $400 an hour labor.

One more thing I forgot to mention earlier. I did ask if I could save any money by bring it to their place for repair. They said it would drop the diagnosis fee to $70. However, in the end they would have still charged me $438 for the fix.

The fix:
I bought a color wheel off ebay for $87 and fixed it myself using instructions I found in a YouTube video. Total savings $261 (remember I had to pay $90 for 5 minutes of work for a diagnosis).

We have a Sony Bravia TV which developed problems but was still under warranty. I first spoke with someone at DTR, which was a pleasant experience. I faxed a copy of my purchase receipt to them plus a description of the problem, from which their Sony specialist was able to diagnose the problem. They ordered the replacement part, which came in a couple of days. We scheduled a day for the repair (morning or afternoon). The repair tech, Jose, called an hour before arrival and was here when he said he would be. He was friendly, competent, quick, and also gave us helpful tips to maximize our TV's performance. The office staff was also very friendly and helpful when I called. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to others as well. Thank you, DTR!

After speaking to their Customer Service Dept on two occasions and providing them with all the characteristics of what was wrong with my Sony XBR - she told me that the problem could be one of three boards and that an on-site visit was necessary to determine the actual problem. After finally agreeing to the $90 on-site visit, the technician arrived two days later and told me the problem without even taking apart the TV. He turned the TV on and saw the same characteristics that I had told their Cust Service Rep and said that your TV needs a new Dboard. He then called their office, got a quote for roughly $500, wrote up the estimate and was gone in less than 15 minutes. Here's a perfect example of a company looking to nickel and dime prospective customers by hitting them up for a $90 consultation and not providing great customer service over the phone and just telling me it's probably the Dboard and the cost is X. After speaking to their technician, he said the Dboard going after 5-6 years is not uncommon. I asked him about the "3 boards that could pose this problem" and he didn't know what I was talking about. He said the Dboard is the board responsible for powering up the TV.

Definitely not happy with just being taken for $90, it didn't take me long to find another TV repair outfit in Denver to do the job for 1/2 of what DTR quoted. I guess another reason they don't want to quote their rates out without getting some quick cash ($90 on-site visit) from prospective customers.

If the TV is not under warranty, I would call around and not just go to these guys because that is where the manufacturer sends you.

I have a 73? DLP that was purchased at Ultimate Electronics with the extended warranty. The five years that I have owed it, DTR took care of all the warranty issues (3 times). Each time the technician was very professional and courteous. Scheduling was easy, and had the parts in hand. This last repair which entailed replacing the optical unit, DTR took care of ordering the part in a timely matter and having the technician come out and install the broken unit quickly and professionally. I would definitely use them again even on none warranty issues.

We bought a new sound system for our car not long ago. The employees were very helpful in finding the system that was right for us and our budget! They then helped us install the system to insure it was done correctly! The prices are about average, but the service is far above and beyond!
