I went to the CC CD office to see Dr. Jolstad and had x-rays taken and an exam. They charged me an extra $35 for periodontal charting which they didn't inform me of before they did it. I was charged $55 total for what should've been a $20 visit on the Comfort Gold Plan. I found out later from another office that you only need periodontal charting if you have gum disease. Not even Dr. Jolstad said I had gum disease and yet one of his staff said that everyone that comes in gets the periodontal charting. If you still go after reading these reviews, ask about that before he puts his hands in your mouth.
I got the $35 back on my second visit after I complained extensively, but Dr. Jolstad would admit no wrong-doing there. He told me I had a cavity and that I would need the deep cleaning (about $400 out of pocket). Five minutes later he told me that my teeth and gums were in better shape than most of the people he sees. If they're in such good shape, why would I need a special $400 cleaning?
Upon seeing my skepticism, he suggested I get a second opinion and referred me to a periodontist. It all seemed so orchestrated that there was no way I was going to anyone he referred me to. I figured they probably had some kind of kick-back agreement to confirm diagnosis. I got out of there.
I figured I would give CD one more try so a week later I went to the Stroh Ranch CD office and saw Dr. Henderson. He not only said that I didn't have a cavity, but literally said, "We can clean your teeth today if you can stick around for a bit, but there's really not that much to clean." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! He was done in 8 minutes. So I got an exam and cleaning for $20 and a "See you in 6 months for your next cleaning." It makes me sick that anyone would pay $400+ for a cleaning that s/he didn't need.
I had read all the other bad reviews about the CC CD office prior to going in, but I thought I would still give them a shot. Just save your time and go somewhere else. Stroh Ranch is a long distance from CC, but it was worth my time.
What Dr. Jolstad did is unethical and bordering on malpractice. (Disclaimer: I'm not an attorney, and I don't know what qualifies as malpractice in CO.) I feel bad for all the patients he has that just believe what he tells them and shell out money to him for unnecessary procedures. He can afford to alienate discriminate people because of his location. Both times I was there, there were at least two foreign patients (as evidenced by accent or total inability to speak English), and I wonder if their cultures take doctors and dentists automatically at their word and that this also contributes to the CC CD office's success.
